La Specola is a beautiful and prestigious historical house with conciergerie service overlooking Lake Bracciano from the old and tranquil town of Anguillara Sabazia at only 40 minutes away from Rome.
Recently restored, the house is tastefully decorated with antique furniture and fully equipped with modern facilities (full HD TV 42', wi-fi in every room, air conditioning, Playstation 3, hair dryer, iron, etc.).
La Specola boasts 290 m2 (3200 ft2) of indoor space, 60 m2 (650 ft2) of outdoor terrace, 40 m2 (130 ft2) of outdoor garden and can very comfortably host up to 6 people. The property is composed of 3 en-suite double bedrooms, a spacious and bright living room with exceptional architecture and breath taking views over the lake, an antique fireplace, a very functional rustic kitchen, a utility room, a large terrace and a private entrance with an idealic garden. In addition, guests can enjoy an extensive selection of books in French, English and Italian (to be read on the chaise longue overlooking the lake!) as well as a XIX century piano. Due to its strategic location and its magnificent terrace, the house enjoys unique views of Lake Bracciano and is ideal for a peaceful and relaxing holiday.
The property is situated in the historical center of Anguillara Sabazia in a very tranquil pedestrian area and therefore is not directly accessible by car (guests might consider there are about 20 steps to reach the entrance from the parking). All main points of interest are very nearby at not more than 5 minutes walk: beach and aquatic sport clubs, restaurants, bars, shops, supermarket and parking.
The area surrounding Lake Bracciano offers a wide ranging list of indoor and outdoor activities, as well as its stunning beauty. There are numerous places of historical interest in the vicinity to visit such as Castello Odescalchi (Tom Cruise and Ketie Holmes’ wedding location!), pretty old towns and other UNESCO sites to discover. The sport facilities available range from golf, tennis, horse riding, fishing, biking, sailing, paddle boarding, kayaking, trekking to serene promenades in The Natural Park of Bracciano. But most importantly, the enogastronomy of the region is simply exquisite and can be enjoyed in the abundance of local restaurants.
In order to make your stay unforgettable it is possible to ask for extra services such as: chauffeur, welcome aperitif, touristic tours (Bracciano surrounding or Rome), a cod for baby, cleaning on demand, inhouse massage, inhouse cooking school, inhouse catering services, inhouse classical concert, etc.

Occasionally in life you find something special. La Specola was exactly that in every way. We were struck by the friendliness of the people as soon as we arrived in the beautiful, medieval village of Anguillara Sabazia. We were met and welcomed by the lovely House Manager, who escorted us up the ancient village centre and took is into this beautiful place. The apartment was superb. It is a much loved home of the family and it was truly a privilege to stay there. The flat was spacious, comfortable with the most incredible views of the lake from most windows. It was furnished with the antique furniture of the family but with all the modern comforts of today. Everything was there we could possibly wish for and more. It was private, peaceful and a true haven. There were three very comfortable bedrooms, each with an en suite bath or shower room. The living room was absolutely huge and very beautiful. Spotlessly clean everywhere. Outside a pretty shady garden to the front and a terrace to the back with the most superb views! The medieval village was stunning, with character and ambiance. But still well provided with excellent local shops, many cafes, bars and excellent restaurants. Spoiled for choice! It was a taste of real Italy and we felt totally at home there and loved every minute of our stay. We also received very comprehensive information in advance from Paolo which was greatly appreciated and very useful. One of the highlights for us was the lovely House Manager, PeLe who is charming! She looked after us very well and couldn't have been more helpful. We have been back less than a day and can't wait to return. Thank you!
Federico greeted us and made us not only very comfortable, but educated us in all that we needed to know to be comfortable at La Specola. It is not our first visit to Lago Bracciano, but our best. I cook, and the kitchen utensils and appliances were in very good condition. Three very comfortable bedrooms with three very comfortable bathrooms. The views from this apt. were lovely and also the area is very quiet. Eateries in the area were good. I'm only sorry we kept missing Federico's restaurant. It's right on the Lake and available only in very good weather. Again, Paolo, thank you for sharing your lovely home with us. Ciao for now, Camille
Lovely home with spectacular views. Much larger than appears in the photos. The lake was wonderful. I encourage everyone to book this home if you are looking for a large beautiful home in a peaceful surrounding.
The owner and manager are exceptionally lovely and very attentive. A really great home for everyone.
We, four friends, are enjoying every year a pre-summer week together. what we are looking for: a special place, with a high quality ambiance and luxury, exclusive interior and surroundings that are appealing for us (or very quiet, or in the middle of town, and of course we prefer a combination).
La specola was for us, an ideal place!
Anna and I spent 10 days at Paolo’s magnificent flat, which was the highlight of our month long tour of Italian vacation rentals. In fact, the setting was so idyllic, that I proposed to Anna on the deck of La Specola overlooking picturesque Lake Bracciano.
Anna and I operate successful vacation rentals in San Luis Obispo, CA and take great pride in catering to all our guests needs to ensure memorable experiences. A true highlight of the trip was PéLé, La Specola’s consummate host. PéLé is a very special person who is thoughtful, accommodating and responsive. She arranged many aspects of the trip, which took the experience to “the next level”, including transportation from Rome to Anguillara, a historical tour of the town, in-house massages and a cooking class at La Specola, horseback riding, etc. PéLé redefined hospitality and has inspired us to follow her lead to enhance guest experiences.
The views from the home are outstanding and the spacious deck provides an ideal venue for sunset dining. We spent some time each day on the deck relaxing. All bedrooms have air conditioning and fully appointed bathrooms. The kitchen is well laid out and contains every amenity needed to prepare multi-course meals. The furniture and appointments are an homage to Paulo’s family history and there are volumes of important books written in Italian, French, English, etc. The art, which adorn the flat’s walls are beautiful.
The flat is a short walk to the banks of the river Bracciano and our favorite outdoor restaurant La Nipitella, operated by Federico Martini. Also, if you walk up from the house there is a great café named Dolci in Commune, operated by Mauro. The people of Anguillara are a treasure and we encourage you to reach out to the local community. You will make a new wonderful friend and your trip will be enriched.
Anna and I will be back to La Specola to experience Paulo’s beautiful home, PéLé’s outstanding hospitality and the people of Anguilara, Sabazia. This is a highly recommended property and a reason unto itself to visit picturesque Anguilara.
