Photos and Description of this 4 bedroom holiday home in Alexandria - Brophy Reflections

4 Bedrooms, 2 Bath, 2 Kitchens, 2 Family Rooms, 2 gas fireplaces on Lake Brophy

Welcome to Brophy Reflections, a year round rental property! Built in the early 60's this rambler boasts beautiful sunset views from a bank overlooking Lake Brophy. Park your vehicle in the attached garage and walk into our comfortable, tastefully furnished home. You will be drawn to the large living room windows and look out over the lake. Cozy is what you'll feel when you turn on the gas fireplace. There is a tv with a smart DVD player that connects to wifi. You can access your online movie accounts. There is no cable, Dish or the like.

The dining table seats 6-10 with the two leaves.. The fully furnished kitchen has microwave, coffee maker and dishwasher. Salt, pepper, sugar and flour may be available, and also Ziplocs, foil and plastic wrap. These items are not guaranteed. The three bedrooms and one bath are at the south end of house and can be separated by closing the pocket door. Great for napping and quiet time!

Our blue bathroom gives you a taste of the 60's and you'll find towels, a limited supply of tp and kleenex, even a toothbrush if you forgot yours. There are wash cloths, hand and bath towels for our guests to use.

The blue bedroom has one twin bed, and one full. A full size bed is in the small bedroom which looks over the lake. The master bedroom has a queen and a corner window with a lake view.

Downstairs we have a fourth bedroom with a full Tempur-pedic and a twin Sleep Number bed.

Downstairs you'll find a cozy spot with a sofa bed and loveseat. There is a 32' flat screen with DVD player. There is no satellite service, however, we have provided an HDMI cord you may use with your computer or tablet to access downstreaming with your personal Netflix account (or the like); there is also a smart DVD player. Wifi is provided.

The little kitchen downstairs is furnished but has no dishwasher (dishwasher is in upstairs kitchen.) We have a CordaRoy king sofa which converts to 2 king size mattresses for additional sleeping. Kids love them! There is a walk in shower with a seat. Laundry facilities are also downstairs. The downstairs is like an apartment: kitchen, bedroom, bath and living room with a gas fireplace.

Go out the downstairs door and walk onto a shaded patio. The new steps down to the lake are many but there is a landing with a bench you can take a rest or watch the lake action. Brophy is a quiet lake on the chain. You may swim, jet ski, water ski, fish or whatever. Please have lots of fun but at the same time respectful of the neighbors.

Our front yard is family friendly. There is a fire pit with chairs out front. Set up the badminton, croquet, or play whiffle ball. Roll down the grassy slope, play tag or throw the football and have fun! Also, a dog kennel which has a doggie door to the shed. Yes, you may bring your dog with pre-approval and additional fee but the dog must remain on leash, kenneled or downstairs. A Dog Addendum must be signed.

Brophy Reflections is less than 10 minutes to Alexandria. Beautiful sandy Latoka beach is only 1.5 miles away. Go another direction and walk that same distance, just around Lake Cowdry to the bike/walking path. Alexandria offers so many outdoor opportunites. During the winter Brophy Reflections is less than half a mile to the snowmobile trail. After a great day of sledding you will come home to a cozy warm house. If you enjoy skiing and snowboarding Andes Tower Hills is about 15 miles away. You can fish on Brophy or go to one of the area lakes. Golfing is convenient as ArrowWood is only a 10 minutes drive. The museums in town are so interesting, shopping is unique, AAAA theatre offers entertainment throughout the year. There is bowling, miniature golf and cinema. Tennis courts, playgrounds and restaurants are right in town. There is always something to do in Alexandria! Most of all you can take advantage of your vacation and relax.

This unique property can be used for businesses. There is room for meetings, team building activities, and a printer for your use. Bring your own paper. Train during the day and relax at night. Treat your employees to a stay.

This a perfect location for a 'Girls Getaway'. You can scrapbook, play games, chat, watch movies, etc. There is a card table perfect for puzzles or projects. Homeschool moms can bring your curriculum and do some planning!

About Susan Persons

We are Ken and Susan Persons. I, Susan, grew up in this very house, graduated from Alexandria in 1982 then headed off to college. I taught in Princeton for 12 years, then decided to homeschool our own children. Today, our kids are 21, 17, and 16. We have been married for 27 years. Ken graduated from Maple Lake, MN in 1979. Ken currently runs an Elevator manufacturing company in Andover, MN. We love being outside enjoying God's creation!

Susan Persons purchased this house in 2013

Why Susan Persons chose Minnesota

After my dad, Dwayne Soderholm, passed away in Jan. of 2013 we felt called to purchase this home. Let's face it, I couldn't bear to sell my childhood home. I know the love my parents had for this property. My dad used to collect arrowheads he found on the shore of Lake Brophy. He built this house with the help of my grandpa and uncle. Cousins came for a week when they were young, relatives came for reunions, neighbors came to swim, Tech students rented the basement, we fished, water skied and enjoyed the lake. We would like to offer hospitality and memories as part of that same family legacy. May you be blessed staying at Brophy Reflections.

What makes this house unique

Ahhhh, the view. Brophy Reflections is a year round vacation rental which sits on the bank overlooking Lake Brophy this home offers enjoyment and breathtaking sunsets. This home has the benefits of the lake and a large front yard. Close to town (3 miles), the Central Lakes Bike Trail, the snowmobile trail, and much more your stay can be as busy as you want. This house has 2 kitchens and 2 living areas so you can have multiple families stay together and yet have privacy. We have furnished the home with you in mind. It's not too fancy that your children and grandchildren have to be still, but not rustic at all. This doesn't have a 'cabin' feel, we welcome you to 'our home'. Perfect for large groups or small. Want to visit friends and family in the area but would like your own space? Brophy Reflections is for you! Maybe you'd like to vacation with Grandpa and Grandma but they need their quiet time, this house is designed for you. Though not set up for a wheelchair, the floor plan works well. The bathroom is large and the counter is right next to the toilet which provides leverage. The bathtub is upstairs, however, downstairs there is a walk in shower. There are plenty of linens and towels with washer/dryer on site.

In the summer we will put out the patio furniture, get out the grill and put out the dock for you to enjoy. Come, stay at Brophy Reflections and be blessed!

Really well equipped and comfortable and spacious with a scenic view of Brophy's Lake.

We really enjoyed our stay. We used the house as a headquarters as the husbands played golf at area golf courses and our wives shopped for craft items in Alex and nearby locations they heard were worth the drive to explore. The kitchens up and down served our breakfast and supper needs, but most nights we explored local restaurants recommended by people we met in town. Everyone in every place was exceptionally friendly and helpful. We did a little fishing off the dock and had two days of glass smooth surface on the lake which was gorgeous early in the morning and also at sunset. Susan was amazingly attentive without being intrusive, just checking in with a text to make sure everything was o.k. The 3-ring binders waiting for us had a lot of good information in them. We had all the utensils we needed to barbecue one night and grill our supper another night. The tables upstairs and downstairs were well suited for cards, but they seemed to favor the women more than the men. :)

We are definitely thinking of coming back. Highly recommend this lake home to everyone. We didn't get to sit around the fire ring and sing "Kumbaya" because of a little rain, but next time, for sure! We were there in September and next time we'd like to try August maybe.

Great place to vacation!

  • 5 of 5

The owner, Susan, was very accommodating. The home was clean and in a beautiful location - on a sparkling, clear lake and easy to get to downtown Alexandria. There was paddle boarding, a bonfire (with a mini chair for kids!), and nice little extras like a fully equipped kitchen and a small table for kids.

A must stay at place!! It is not a cabin; it's a very spacious home!! Great location!

  • 5 of 5

We have never returned to the same cabin rental a second time, but this place is amazing and we just did for the 2nd year in a row. It is a home in a very safe, quiet area. There is so much room to spread out. And it is so close to Alexandria if you need to pick up a few things. It is very clean.

The kitchen is well stocked. We LOVE gathering our family and cooking fabulous meals together. We try leave the technology alone, but WiFi is there if you still need to keep in touch! We always set up the card table for some late night puzzles

A must for us is facing West and enjoying the beautiful sunsets. Fabulous they are. The sitting area out back is a great gathering place to relax, read, play games and have great conversations. We enjoy canoeing. We actually canoed through 4-5 channels to other lakes. It was very peaceful. Bring your tubes and go on the lazy river. It is fun even though it isn't very long. Perfect for younger kids. We enjoyed the paddle board, the paddle boat, boating and fishing. Great location to go on walks safely. I even found some great backdrops and did photo shoots of our kids in the yard.

We would like to keep this place a hidden secret; but it is so nice we need to share. Susan is great to work with. Perfect getaway. We just need to book earlier in the year so fishing is better.

Owner's Response: We are so thankful for amazing reviews as you have provided! So glad you had a great stay at Brophy Reflections! We strive to continually improve and provide family friendly service! We also take the suggestions of our guests to heart. Next summer we have plans to add a sandy beach area along with a level area to sit down by the shore. Maybe even a new dock along with a pontoon if our finances allow! See you next summer!

Cozy and spacious

  • 5 of 5

My family spent the weekend at Brophy Reflections to celebrate my parents 40th Anniversary. We had a full house, 10 adults and 5 children, but there was plenty of room for everyone. The house is spacious and cozy. The lake is beautiful, the fishing was great. My niece and nephews all caught their first fish. We used the Kennedy boat, the canoe and paddle board, it was nice to have all of these available. The front yard is huge, plenty of room to run and play. The house is well stocked, having all the main necessities for cooking, sleeping, etc. Sue was very available and great to work with. I highly recommend this property, everyone in my family loved it.

Owner's Response: We are so glad you had a wonderful family vacation! Thank you for the nice review! I agree on all accounts as growing up we had family reunions each summer! Look forward to having you come again! We have plans for the shore including rip rap, leveling an area for seating and adding a sand beach area! The plan is for this to be completed for the summer of 2017. Maybe adding a pontoon for our guests to rent!

Family Vacation

  • 5 of 5

It was a terrific time! The kids loved the paddle boat! They were able to ride on the tubes and follow each other with the paddle boat. We had a large Muskie visit us under the dock. That was quite a sight. The home itself was so well equipped and so easy to work in we all had a great time with anything we did. We were able to have a fire in the fire pit while we could watch fireworks for the Fourth of July. The weather cooperated and we were able to spend hours outside enjoying the view of the lake! It was a great time and we plan to visit again next year! Susan was so easy and accommodating to work with which made the time together so satisfying! Brophy's Reflections is a great retreat for us!
