Description

Photos and Description of this 3 bedroom holiday farmhouse in Wintergreen - Spruce Creek Farmhouse

Beautiful 3 Br Farmhouse On 11 Heavenly Acres

Nestled in the Rockfish gap right under Devil's Knob our farmhouse is situated perfectly in the center of everything that Nellysford, Wintergreen, and the Rockfish Valley have to offer, including skiing, golfing, fishing, breweries/wineries, Blue Ridge Parkway, hiking, biking, swimming, antiquing, and so much more while still providing a quiet secluded and downright heavenly spot to use as your base of operations for your next vacation. While there’s plenty to do in this area, including day visits to nearby historic towns like Staunton, Lexington, and Charlottesville, just spending a few quiet nights in the house is almost vacation enough with its warm 200 year old re-purposed heart pine beams, slate floors, wood stove for those cold winter nights, huge sun-room, two living rooms, one with a pull-out couch and large window seat, 3 well appointed bedrooms, small sleeping porch, and 2 full bathrooms. There is Wi-Fi through-out the house, Direct TV with premium channels, and DVD players, so no one has to be without entertainment. Outside, there is a small deck nestled under the trees next to the garden, a great fire-pit in the back yard perfect for evening gatherings under the stars, and a basketball court to keep the kids busy during the day. The 11 acre property has beautiful wooded trails and a path leading right down to the babbling Spruce Creek that runs through it, not to mention open pasture land with gorgeous vistas and views of the surrounding mountains. Get up early and hike out into the pasture to see the sun come up over the mountains or sleep late and then take a short walk to tour the Bold Rock Hard Cider house just down the street or ride your bike down the “Brew Ridge Trail” to Red Wolf or Devil’s Backbone, eat a terrific meal and taste some local craft beers! There’s so much to do (or not to do if you prefer), you’ll love spending time here!

About Cynthia Corbin

We bought the house as a retirement property, but with 2 kids still in college, aren't yet able to make full the transition. Renting the property every now and then will provide the income supplement we need now.

Cynthia Corbin purchased this farmhouse in 2014

Why Cynthia Corbin chose Central Virginia

We just fell in love with this property and the surrounding region.

What makes this farmhouse unique

How does that old real estate advise go, 'location, location, location'? This spot has everything we were looking for in a vacation/retirement property.

Wonderful Remote Cabin

  • 5 of 5

This cabin was perfect. The pictures do not do it justice. We were only a family of 4, but the cabin could sleep 8 or more easily. The kitchen had everything appliance, cookware, dishes we need. The owner even supplied go cups for coffee on our morning walks. There is a short walk to the creek, something we enjoyed every morning. Our dog loved her new freedom and we enjoyed the solitude and reconnecting without distractions.

There are two cider breweries close by for dinner when we got cabin fever. Also, the blue ridge parkway and skyline drive are a short drive away and should not be missed, with lots of short hikes off the drive.

Cabin was very clean and spacious. WiFi worked perfectly. Firepit was resort quality, they even supplied the firewood. I cannot say enough about our stay, highly recommended to anyone that wants peace an solitude.

Stayed at this property October 7-10, 2016

We can tell you that you will not be disappointed to share this property with family and friends. Our older generation family living in Kentucky, enjoys meeting up with our younger generation family living in DC and this year, we hit the jackpot by staying here at the Farmhouse! The location of the farmhouse is secluded with no other homes in sight, but also right in the middle of wineries, orchards, breweries, antique shops, Wintergreen, within a very short drive. Charlottesville, Montecello, Stauton, and other attractions, are all within a half hour to hour driving distance. The property around the house has so much to offer with wildlife (deer chasing in the woods) and beautiful Spruce Creek running thorough, with many paths for exploring and hiking. The house itself was welcoming, very clean, and comfortable. We had seven adults staying and all said their beds slept very well and we had plenty of room to spread out and not feel confined. We even had fried green tomatoes from the garden, which were left over from the summer. The kitchen provided adequate utensils, etc. for cooking, although I always bring some of my own along and we enjoyed big family breakfasts around the table. Although it did rain most of Friday and Saturday, Sunday was beautiful and we built a fire in the firepit and was able to roast wieners, which was also a treat! Our DC family are skiers and frequent Wintergreen Resort during winter months. However, they now prefer to try to rent the farmhouse for their next trips. Wintergreen is only 15 minutes away. Our whole family agreed, the Farmhouse is perfect and we plan on returning here for our KY/DC family get togethers. Thank you Cynthia Corbin for your hospitality and sharing your Farmhouse. It was a fantastic weekend and we made so many lasting memories!

Really Enjoyed the Long Weekend

  • 5 of 5

Great place to get away. We planned an outdoor vacation but the rain put a damper on our plans. We found plenty to do though with multiple breweries and wineries nearby to keep us busy. Very cool house with lots of unique spaces inside and outside. Owner was very quick to respond and very accommodating. We really enjoyed Devils Backbone Brewery, the food and beer were great.

Wonderful property!

  • 5 of 5

The pictures do not do this house justice! We were pleasantly surprised when we arrived at the house. Not only was it spacious and comfortable but it had everything we needed. The property around the house is lovely and inviting as well.

The location is also excellent. It's within quick distance of restaurants, breweries and stores. There is also a great trail area within walking distance from the house. We look forward to hopefully coming back again since we visit family in the area often.

My husband and I and our 7 year-old twins drove in from MO and spent a week here in mid February. The best pictures can't do justice to this place. The house is wonderful, new or newly rehabbed with beautiful materials. The owners are easy and pleasant to work with. The property and location…gorgeous.

There is room in the house for a lot of people. Over the weekend we were joined by family from Northern VA and, for dinner on Saturday, family from Nellysford as well. (Brought in barbecue from Paulies Pig....excellent.) With three separate living areas and two dining areas we never felt crowded.

The three bedrooms are comfortable with quality mattresses and plenty of good pillows and linens. There is a huge window seat in the loft, great for reading, napping, or watching a thunderstorm roll through the woods. It’s easily big enough for a couple of kiddos to sleep on as well. Because of the wood floors and ceilings, sound really travels through the house so we found having a source of white noise in the bedrooms helpful.

When considering a stay in a farmhouse, potential concerns for me, as a mom of kids with asthma, are: Is it clean? Musty? Drafty? I am happy to say the house did not disappoint on any of these points. It was impeccably clean and fresh and comfortably warm.

We took the kids snow tubing at Wintergreen Resort and had a blast. Also, there is an activity room at the resort with a bouncy house, mechanical bull, pool table, etc., that was a lot of fun when the weather wasn’t great. Mostly though, the kids loved tramping and exploring through the woods and creek on this beautiful property. They have declared it “the best place EVER!” Can't argue with that!
