Approx. 3 km below Sternes are the sandy beaches of Loutraki and Marathi. Both have shallow, crystal-clear waters, are well protected from the northerly winds of July and August, and are favorites among both tourists and locals alike. Marathi has a slightly larger selection of restaurants, one of them, Patrelantonis, considered to be one of the best restaurants in Chania.
