About Ally Bacon

My name is Ally and I live at Old Trecastle Barn, near to the lodge, with my two lovely children. We absolutely love living here, it's so peaceful but with easy access to many areas of outstanding beauty and of interest. As a family, there is never a dull moment. Children and the young at heart can enjoy canoeing, mountain biking/cycling, balloon flights and visit the many attractions in close proximity. (We refer to Old Trecastle & Lodge as a "constant holiday experience!" ).

Why Ally Bacon chose Monmouth

Old Trecastle & Lodge is situated on a Motte and Bailey, dating back some 900 years. The aspect is picturesque, with wonderful wild life, such as local geese & ducks, rabbits on the lawn (if your early enough) and a few owls to spot at dusk. There is a local vine yard, safe bike rides and outstanding views of the black mountains, and so much more. The location offers a choice of great restaurants, a busy market town and immediate links to Raglan Castle, Abergavenny, Crickhowell, Breacon Beacons & Hay-on-Wye. In the opposite direction, you can drop into Monmouth town, Symonds Yat, Ross-on-Wye and Hereford, to name but a few areas of interest.

Escape to the country.....

  • 5 of 5

Lovely peaceful location and well equipped property. Very clean and tidy and plenty of space for two or four visitors. Welcome hamper a very thoughtful kindness. Lots of secure outside space and garden furniture to enjoy the afternoon sun. Quite isolated - which is why it is so quiet and peaceful - so car required. Very dog friendly. Owners lives 'next door' - very friendly & helpful but not at all intrusive Great location to explore Wye Valley & Monmouthshire and lots of places to visit & activities for young and not so young. Stunning walks within short drives - OS 13 & 14 maps gives you ready access to the surrounding area.

Trecastle Lodge is fabulous and so is Ally

  • 5 of 5

We went to Trecastle Lodge for a week in May, we had decent weather, but that is only part of the very positive story. Ally was so helpful but never intrusive. We loved the lodge and everything about our stay. Places of interest near by are; Cardiff (fabulous shopping), Blaenavon Big Pit (free to enter and operated by miners who worked the pit when it was operational), Dan yr ogor (caves which were beautiful) and the Brecon and Monmouthshire Canal (where you can hire a boat for the day, we were very lucky as we have a freind who has a barge). Overall it was fantastic at Trecastle Lodge. The house was spotless, all amenities were available. We wanted for nothing.

A lovely property in a lovely location

  • 5 of 5

We have just arrived home from a fabulous stay at Old Trecastle Lodge. What a beautiful place to stay in a lovely peaceful location. The Lodge is really well appointed; absolutely everything you could need for a home away from home. We were lucky to have great weather and the garden space was a delight to sit out in all day! The welcome and communication from Ally was spot-on and the treats on arrival were very well received! We would have no hesitation in booking again as it’s very well situated for exploring the Forest of Dean or the Brecon Beacons. Thankyou so much Ally.

Great Get-Away

  • 5 of 5

We had a fabulous few days away, staying at Trescastle Lodge. The lodge is very comfortable, and every creature comfort has been thought of to a very high standard. Quality oozes from every room. The kitchen is well equipped and a lovely hamper was left for us by Ally. She has thought of everything, a great host, so warm and friendly, nothing is too much trouble for her. Great advise on where to visit, with lots of books and pamphlets. The bedrooms are spacious with really comfortable beds. Lots of storage space. The bathroom is a great size too. Several pubs around but not close enough to walk, but we did venture out every day with our dogs who made the most of the big open space. Well worth a visit.

Lovely, spacious and welcoming.

  • 5 of 5

We rested well at Trecastle Lodge in Ally's care. The welcome goodies and the DvD rental list were much appreciated, especially by our boys! We enjoyed badminton and volleyball on the sunny evenings. We were able to easily travel to climb the hills around Abergavenny and to revisit well known places in the Wye Valley and Forest of Dean. Ally also very kindly carefully posted home a 3D model we had made and then left behind! Thank you!
