With spectacular walking and cycling on the doorstep, Rose Cottage offers the perfect base to explore the Peak District National Park whether by car, bike or on foot. We like to offer maximum flexibility to our guests on arrival and departure dates on both our holiday cottages in Derbyshire so it is best to give us a call to discuss your preferred holiday dates first.

A beautifully presented 1 bedroom, pet friendly, traditional limestone built cottage in the heart of the popular village of Biggin surrounded by beautiful Peak District National Park countryside.

The cottage is tastefully and thoughtfully decorated throughout offering country living with modern amenities with a comfortably sized living and dining area equipped with free WiFi, FreeView SMART TV and DVD player with a selection of DVDs. In front of the wood burning stove (welcome pack of logs provided), you can relax and plan your Peak District break from a selection of local maps, guide books and tourist information.

Upstairs the large bedroom features a King size bed and boasts a window seat with fine views towards the village church and far reaching farmland. We also offer a travel cot suitable for babies and infants. The upstairs bathroom features a double shower.

The village of Biggin has the popular dining pub The Waterloo Inn as well as fine dining at Biggin Hall but if you prefer to dine in, the kitchen is well stocked with a good range of quality equipment and appliances.

Rose Cottage offers off road parking for 1 vehicle and secure garage storage e.g. for bikes. To the front of the cottage is a fully enclosed garden with stone bench seating ideal for enjoying the afternoon sun. To the rear of the cottage is a small garden (also fully enclosed) with paved patio area and outside furniture perfect for enjoying your breakfast alfresco or a meal or drink on a fine evening.

Well behaved dogs (2 max) are very welcome @ £25 per stay - downstairs only.

Please note due to the age of Rose Cottage, the staircase is quite narrow and steep.

The small rural village of Biggin is located on the edge of the Dove Valley with countless walks from the doorstep. The Tissington Trail is directly accessible from the village leading you towards Ashbourne (11 miles) or onto the High Peak Trail (4 miles). There is also a regular bus service from the village with links to Hartington, Tissington, Longnor Buxton and Ashbourne.

Biggin is perfectly placed as a base to explore the Peak District National Park with its spectacular scenery and charming towns and villages.

About Lindsay Arnell

Rose Cottage is owned by husband and wife Steve and Lindsay who live in the neighbouring county of Staffordshire. We have always loved visiting and walking in the Peak District.

We have another holiday cottage in the Peak District and take enormous pride in offering high quality holiday accommodation to our guests. Unless unavoidable, we always welcome you personally to the cottage and we are on hand to offer advice on the local area and to respond to any events needing immediate attention.

As dog owners ourselves, we don't believe that you should have to compromise on the quality and comfort of your accommodation in order to bring your dog with you on holiday.

We look forward to welcoming you to Rose Cottage.

Lindsay Arnell purchased this cottage in 2016

Why Lindsay Arnell chose Biggin

From our own experience as guests staying in cottages and latterly as holiday cottage owners, we knew exactly what we wanted for our second holiday cottage.

Our criteria was simple but surprisingly difficult to find.

The cottage had to:

- be in the National Park

- be within walking distance of a good "foodie" pub or restaurant

- have its own private garden for our guests to enjoy

- and have its own parking so that you don't have to spend your precious holiday time hunting for a space for your car.

We are proud to offer all this at Rose Cottage and we think it's the perfect place for you to unwind and relax.

What makes this cottage unique

Rose Cottage is conveniently located in the quiet village of Biggin yet only a short distance from the amenities of Hartington, Ashbourne and Buxton.

Biggin is perfectly located to explore the Dove and Manifold valleys, the Tissington and High Peak Trails and the renowned National Trust Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty of Dovedale.

Within 300 yards of Rose Cottage is the village pub The Waterloo Inn serving excellent lunch and evening food and a wide selection of real ales, ciders, lagers and wines. Also within 300 yards of Rose Cottage is the 17th Century country house hotel of Biggin Hall offering lunches, afternoon teas and evening dining.

Rose Cottage is approximately 150 years old and is a traditional limestone property typical of the Peak District National Park. Given the age of the property, we like to pre-advise guests of some of its characteristics. Some of the doorways and windows are quite low and the stairs are relatively narrow and steep. There is a handrail on the stairs and we advise guests to please take care when carrying bags up and down to the bedroom.

Perfect cottage for a couple and dog! Very cosy and so well equipped - we loved it!

  • 5 of 5

Rose Cottage is ideally located for walks and has absolutely everything we needed for a perfect stay. We loved the hare motives all over the house which gave it a very personal and special note. The terrace is great to have coffee or tea outside in the sunshine, overlooking a field with sheep. Great atmosphere overall, including very friendly and dog-loving neighbours!

The charming rural village of Biggin is situated perfectly for exploring the Dove and Manifold valleys within the Peak District National Park. The village was founded in the 13th century and is a scattered stone-built village with a church, a lovely pub serving good food and Biggin Hall Restaurant. Biggin is close to a national nature reserve, the wonderful National Trust owned Dovedale and the Tissington Trail, with excellent access for all for walking and cycling. The well known village of Hartington is close by, offering a good selection of shops and amenities, including the award famous Hartington Cheese and Wine Company producing and selling a wide range of delicious cheeses. The whole area is a paradise for walking, cycling and horse riding. The famous spa town of Buxton with its fabulous opera house has an array of shops and bars and is just a 20 minute drive away, while the antique searcher’s paradise of Ashbourne is also an easy drive away in the opposite direction. Visit Chatsworth House and Haddon Hall, or take a trip to Alton Towers for a fun-filled day out. Biggin is perfectly placed for exploring the whole Peak District.
