Overview

About the property

5 Bedrooms, 6 Baths, Sleeps 8

Welcome to Rasmuson! Enter via a slate foyer where dramatic oak staircases both ascend and descend to levels as yet unexplored. But, your attention is immediately absorbed by the western wall of windows and the stunning views they embrace. Totally filling your field of view is the Front Range of the Rocky Mountains in Rocky Mountain National Park. Slide open the glass doors and begin enjoying the fresh mountain air that wafts in upon you. Step out onto the western deck and stare unabashedly at the scale and wonder of the towering peaks before you. Even the best peripheral vision cannot encompass everything spread before you in such a banquet of beauty until you rotate your gaze to let your eyes begin sampling the entire feast. Sit for a spell upon the beautiful aspen-wood deck chairs. It will take a while to digest the majesty of it all. Forests, alpine tundra, snowfields, glaciers, and rocky ramparts reach to touch the blue skies of Colorado. Racing clouds riding the prevailing westerlies pause to place a fleeting kiss upon the brow of the Continental Divide. The living room ceiling at Rasmuson soars two and one-half stories to a peak complimenting the mountains that inspired it. A Colorado moss-rock fireplace stands ready to help inspire retellings of the day’s adventures in the National Park. An alcove is stocked with more music selections and movies than you could absorb in a summer. A stash of hiking sticks is itching for yet another mountain trek. The wet bar serves the living and formal dining spaces that meet and marry in the presence of the western view. The black-granite-adorned chef’s kitchen complete with breakfast bar is poised and ready for whatever creative culinary endeavors these surroundings may inspire. There is direct access to the western deck if dining outdoors is in order.

Climb the ascending staircase. The upper landing is watched over by characterful elk statuary cast in bronze by Danny Edwards and ever attentive to your comings and goings. The stairs lead to an office embellished with a perfect view to the west, a library with lounge chairs to relax and read, and full access to the internet. A full bath is handily at hand.

The south wing at Rasmuson embraces an over-sized master suite with loungers arrayed around its fireplace, deck access, and a bath suite with a view-oriented Jacuzzi bath. The hand-worked quilt adorning the California king is emblazoned with the cherished “wedding ring” design. Downstairs is a family room complete with a home theater, table tennis, and outside access to a sprawling patio. Three more bedrooms and attendant bathrooms round out the sleeping compliment.

Words can barely capture the essence of the Rasmuson experience, but many a guest has left a happy thought or two in the guest book:

• “Over and over in so many ways you have blessed us with the peace afforded by this beautiful home in the mountains.”

• “Thank you for helping us make memories as timeless as these beautiful Rocky Mountain surroundings.”

• “We find ourselves overcome with joy and thankfulness as we wrap up a very special family vacation.”

• “The deer, elk, coyotes, and the bobcat that came to call were awe inspiring!”

• “Our forever memories of Rasmuson will include sledding, hiking, trekking, games, bird watching, laughing, ping pong, deer watching, movies, ‘snickerdoodle,’ elk watching, snow falls, and the spectacular ever-changing views.”

• “The design and upkeep of this ‘castle’ cannot be complimented enough.”

• “It is amazing what a few days with the beauty of the Rocky Mountains and the wholesome and simple pleasures of a family meal around a table, board games, ping pong, and the beautifully-haunting calls of the elk can do to restore one’s soul!”

• “A large herd of elk just came by for a photo op!”

AN HISTORICAL NOTE: The site of the Rasmuson home is a “neighbor” to history. The original land grant (1897) homestead cabin still stands firmly-planted just a couple of hundred yards away in an ancient copse of trees. It was built by Frank and Cora Webster and dubbed “Windcliff.” Frank was an editor at the Denver Post Newspaper. It was around their dining table and beside their hearth that dreams and prospects for a National Park took flight in animated conversation. Party to these discussions were the Websters, William Allen White (the great “Progressive” mind of his day), the Kellogg’s of Battle Creek, and Enos Mills --- the naturalist deemed “the father of Rocky Mountain National Park.” Listen on a quiet evening for earnest voices still wafting on the breeze and then look west to see their dreams and visions fulfilled in the majestic Park towering before you.

Although Estes Park [Rocky Mountain National Park’s gateway community] is only 15 minutes distant by car, you will always feel securely tucked away at “Rasmuson” --- separated from the “hustle and bustle” of people and their traffic. The Windcliff enclave embracing the “Rasmuson” residence is a private residential community comprising 260 acres on the sunny western slopes of Ram’s Horn Mountain. It is served by a single entrance to private roads with no through streets or heavy traffic. It is truly a world apart!
