Beautiful, Warm, Sunny 1880s Miner's Cabin. Great Remodel -- Spa Bath, Wifi!

Bedrooms 2
Space 800 sq. ft.
Property type house
Minimum Stay 2 - 4 nights

About the property

2 Bedrooms, 1 Bath, Sleeps 5. (Minimum 48 hours notice needed to rent.)

Beautifully remodeled and sunshine-filled 800 s.f. miner's cabin. 1 block from Harrison Ave (main street) with 3 comfy beds (1 queen, 1 full, 1 twin trundle) and 1 deluxe bathroom. Spacious living room with vaulted ceiling and mountain views. All furniture and the bathroom fixtures are current -- you won't find any of the lumpy couches or mattresses that are often a little-too-charming hallmark of some older vacation houses. And the radiant heat under the beautiful wood floors warm the place right up in colder months. The eat-in kitchen is stocked with all you'd need to make a great meal. Sun streams in from the south and west-facing windows and makes the front porch a great spot for morning coffee or evening drinks almost any time of year. Only one block from the finish of the LT100 and two blocks from the 12-mile Mineral Belt Trail -- paved for biking in summer and groomed for XC skiing in winter. This little house is perfect for a getaway to the mountains for a family, group of friends, or couples.

We want our guests to know exactly what they're getting (a wonderfully updated, comfortable, and relaxing getaway), so although these things are noted elsewhere in this property description, we wanted to repeat here a few full disclosures re: things folks tend to ask about:

CHECK-IN/OUT: Check-in is at 4pm and check-out is at 11am. Earlier/later may be possible but you'll have to check with us just beforehand.

WIFI/CABLE: The house is equipped with wifi but not cable. We like to keep it low tech and peaceful for us and our guests.

PRICE NEGOTIATION: We are unable to negotiate on the price, but we do 2-for-1 on kids under 12 and we waive the extra guest fee for children aged 2 and under.

SMOKING: No smoking of tobacco, weed, or anything else is permitted in the house or on the property, including the back patio and the front deck.

WOOD STOVE: For potential damage, extra required cleaning, and insurance reasons, we're sorry but the wood stove is not available for use by guests.

About Elizabeth

We are two professionals--1 college educator and one international wildlife conservation planner, into outdoor sports, well traveled, and parents of 2 enthusiastic dogs and one indifferent cat. We split our time between Boulder and Leadville, taking every opportunity to bike, run, hike, backpack, cross country name it. We'd be happy to give you the scoop on where to get out to play. We also can point you in the right direction for coffee, brews, and restaurants.

In our wanderings across the country and around the world, we have stayed everywhere from 5-star hotels to huts made of cow dung, so we know what it's like to be guests and appreciate all of the wonderful things it has to offer!

Elizabeth purchased this house in 2014

Why Elizabeth chose South Central Colorado

We bought this house almost a year ago out of a genuine love for Leadville and its great community, fascinating history, and beautiful surrounds. With endless XC skiing options in the winter and backpacking/hiking/biking in the summer, it's hard to beat Leadville. We also love that the community continually celebrates its boom town history and is proud of its rugged charm. Leadville is genuine through and through. In the house, you'll find a big binder of maps and brochures to help you take full advantage of your vacation.

What makes this house unique

We wish we could take credit for the fantastic remodel of this home. The guy who did it didn't cut corners and overhauled the house from top to bottom. It's still charming and cozy, but with a great layout, current, comfortable furniture, and a very clean, updated bathroom, complete with bath bubbles provided. All systems and appliances are as good as new and the proximity to everything can't be beat.

Don't miss out!

  • 5 of 5

You're planning a trip to Leadville and noticed the short list of hotels in the area, perhaps you're new to VRBO and don't know what to expect? Well...rent this place and you'll avoid sub-par motels and find yourself comfortable and rested for any adventure.

I rented this home for a recent work trip, I'm picky about cleanliness and the local motels just don't do it for me. The pictures really don't do it justice, you'll be nestled in the middle of town, close to everything and have all the amenities of home. The home is meticulously clean and very comfortable. The living area is a cool place to hang out and I spent every morning sipping coffee and reading at the kitchen table. If you're worried about cleanliness, get that thought out of your mind right now, they don't come any better than this!

The home is heated with radiant floor heating. It did take some time to warm the home after our very late arrival, however, once you get it set you'll want to rip out your traditional forced air unit back home. Radiant heat is superior! No dry skin or bloody noses, it's simply the best and adds to the long list of why you should stay here.

The kitchen is well stocked with any cookware you'll need, and I really liked that simple condiments were available along with left-over supplies from previous renters. Stock up at the grocery store and enjoy cooking what you would eat at home.

The process...Elizabeth was awesome! Because it was a work trip I needed special handling with the reservation and billing. She handled it all just the way I needed and communicated the entire way.

The only item worthy of mentioning are the mattresses. I enjoy firm though my work partner enjoys soft. Both mattresses are firm so be prepared for it. That's it..that would be our only 'negative' comment.

No reservation, no hesitation, I would rent this place in a second if I'm ever in Leadville again.

Cozy home for a mountain getaway

  • 5 of 5

We are four gals from Austin, Texas who came to Leadville for a long weekend of fun in the sun & snow. On top of picture perfect weather, we had this wonderful downtown home as our landing pad! We fat-biked from the house to the CMC trails, and walked to the nearby brewery & coffee house. After a long day of skiing at Cooper we enjoyed a warm home, hot baths, and comfy beds. We cooked meals at home and played cards at the kitchen table. The WiFi was perfect for staying in touch with work & home. All in all it was just what we needed & hoped for. So thank you for a great stay. We hope to return! ~Renee, Lisa, Alissa & Ella

Typical Mountain Two Bed Room Cabin

  • 4 of 5

The house is Cozy typical old fashioned weather appropriate. Kitchen is super well equipped with all gadgets a good cook will look for; the laundry has top notch equipment as well. Bathroom is not insulated thus during winter taking a bath is quite chilling, although hot water never ran out.

If you look for technical advancements like internet, TV, even cellphone signal is weak to none. Thus this stay has really been a true get-a-way from all the city's entertainments, topped by this special place called Leadville which is almost like paradise so close to heaven. Leadville has a great location very close to many outdoor activities within minutes.

People in the town is special just like Elizabeth who was the kindest lady, well organized and detailed in every way. Thank you Elizabeth and God bless your family with abundance.

Owner's Response: We're glad to hear you had a wonderful, relaxing stay! We appreciate that you enjoyed that the home is "low tech," although note that it now does have wifi. And ATT signal is excellent. We're not sure why you found the bathroom cold, as we never find it "chilling." Taking bubble baths is one of our and our guests' favorite aspects of the home. We hope you and your family will come stay again!
