Photos and Description of this 2 bedroom holiday home in Leadville - Shooting Star

2 Bedrooms, 1 Bath, Sleeps 5. (Minimum 48 hours notice needed to rent.)

Beautifully remodeled and sunshine-filled 800 s.f. miner's cabin. 1 block from Harrison Ave (main street) with 3 comfy beds (1 queen, 1 full, 1 twin trundle) and 1 deluxe bathroom. Spacious living room with vaulted ceiling and mountain views. All furniture and the bathroom fixtures are current -- you won't find any of the lumpy couches or mattresses that are often a-little-too-charming hallmark of some older vacation houses. And the radiant heat under the beautiful wood floors warm the place right up in colder months. The eat-in kitchen is stocked with all you'd need to make a great meal. Sun streams in from the south and west-facing windows and makes the front porch a great spot for morning coffee or evening drinks almost any time of year. Only one block from the finish of the LT100 and two blocks from the 12-mile Mineral Belt Trail -- paved for biking in summer and groomed for XC skiing in winter. This little house is perfect for a getaway to the mountains for a small family, buddies, or couples.

We want our guests to know exactly what they're getting (a wonderfully updated, comfortable, and relaxing getaway), so although these things are noted elsewhere in this property description, we wanted to repeat here a few full disclosures re: things folks tend to ask about:

CHECK-IN/OUT: Check-in is at 4pm and check-out is at 11am.

PRICE NEGOTIATION: We are unable to negotiate on the price (including the $25/night/person extra after 2 people) with the exception that we'll do 2 for 1 on kids under 12 and we are happy to waive the extra guest fee for children aged 2 and under.

SMOKING: No smoking of tobacco, weed, or anything else is permitted in the house or on the property, including the back patio and the front deck. This is a very old home made of wood -- if we find evidence of smoking, we will keep the $250 damage deposit.

WOOD STOVE: For potential damage, extra required cleaning, and insurance reasons, we're sorry but the wood stove is not available for use by guests.

WIFI: At this time, there is no wifi. We try to keep the house as a retreat to mostly unplug (although ATT at least has a perfect signal and we usually download a movie or two before we head to Leadville). The coffee shop two blocks away has great wifi (in addition to delicious coffee/tea and eats and comfy seats).

About Elizabeth

We are two professionals--1 college educator and one international wildlife conservation planner, into outdoor sports, well traveled, and parents of 2 enthusiastic dogs and one indifferent cat. We split our time between Boulder and Leadville, taking every opportunity to bike, run, hike, backpack, cross country name it. We'd be happy to give you the scoop on where to get out to play. We also can point you in the right direction for coffee, brews, and restaurants.

In our wanderings across the country and around the world, we have stayed everywhere from 5-star hotels to huts made of cow dung, so we know what it's like to be guests and appreciate all of the wonderful things it has to offer!

Elizabeth purchased this house in 2014

Why Elizabeth chose South Central Colorado

We bought this house almost a year ago out of a genuine love for Leadville and its great community, fascinating history, and beautiful surrounds. With endless XC skiing options in the winter and backpacking/hiking/biking in the summer, it's hard to beat Leadville. We also love that the community continually celebrates its boom town history and is proud of its rugged charm. Leadville is genuine through and through. In the house, you'll find a big binder of maps and brochures to help you take full advantage of your vacation.

What makes this house unique

We wish we could take credit for the fantastic remodel of this home. The guy who did it didn't cut corners and overhauled the house from top to bottom. It's still charming and cozy, but with a great layout, current, comfortable furniture, and a very clean, updated bathroom, complete with bath bubbles provided. All systems and appliances are as good as new and the proximity to everything can't be beat.

It was perfect !!!

My boyfriend and i rented this house so we could attend the Leadville 100 Mountain Bike Race. Upon arrival, we were under the charm. The house was perfectly located and exceeded our expectations. Beautiful, cozy and charming, it had everything we needed. We would definitely stay here again if ever we return to Leadville.

Lovely Leadville home

  • 4 of 5

Charming little house. Very close to town. Great option for 2-4 people.

Could benefit from wifi as in town coffee shops seem to be unreliable. After spending a long day hiking, biking or climbing sometimes it's nice to just watch something on Netflix to wind down.

Owner's Response: Thanks so much for your feedback. Yes, we've gone back and forth on wifi. It's quite expensive and often not that good in Leadville. If we wired the house, we'd have to pass that cost on to our guests and since so many folks (including us) come to Leadville to disconnect, we so far haven't hooked it up. But we really appreciate your recommendation and will continue to consider it.

Plain and simple

  • 3 of 5

Place was clean. Pictures were accurate. Mattress was uncomfortable and from a different era. Missed basic amenities such as dishwasher, working air conditioner, TV, Radio and Wi-fi. Bathroom (despite shower leaking) along with kitchen have been recently renovated.

Owner's Response: Yes indeed...our sweet, simple 1880s Leadville home is just as it is described in our listing...no wifi, tv, dishwasher or AC. While we appreciate your feedback, we would respectfully recommend that you read vacation home descriptions carefully and if you require certain amenities for comfort, that you be sure to rent a home that offers them :)

Wonderful place. Very clean and updated. Kitchen, bath and sitting rooms are awesome. Laundry machines are new. Great location to Main Street. Mattresses are ok. The locks on the doors are terrible. I do not understand how new looking looks could be so hard for key to operate. Maybe bad key maker for the copies, but please change out. Kind of nerve racking to not know if you are going to get back in or not. Overall though, a fantastic place!!!!! Thanks

Leadville Treasure

  • 5 of 5

My wife & I wanted to visit Leadville but to do it right, we preferred not to stay in a motel but rather stay in one of its historic houses. Our house had been renovated with nice touches but still retained much of its original character. Don't expect a TV or wifi, it's a place to unplug and relax. The location is a block of the Main Street so easy to stroll to the shops and sights. If you want luxury or modern amenities stay in Vail. If you're interested in history, go for Leadville!

Nice place!

  • 5 of 5

Very clean, cozy place. Great bath tub for soaking. Nice kitchen. Quiet, sunny corner lot. Owner was very helpful. I would definitely recommend this property for anyone wanting to spend some time in Leadville. Close walk to downtown for coffee, food and drink. Lots of fat biking (and mountain biking) trails nearby.
