Built above the original Blue Moon Carriage House from about 1900, this Loft style cottage unit is full of detail designed to make your stay the perfect Downtown Apalachicola Get-a-way!
From the moment you ascend the stairs and open the 100+ year old front door, you know this will be the first of a tradition of your visits to the Moon! This is a one bedroom / one bath Loft with a large kitchenette & eating area looking out to your own personal Bridge balcony. The Loft was built using some of our sentimental family pieces like the wonderful antique farm sink and 100+ year old cub-bards from my Grandparents' Home in South Georgia. Reclaimed cypress beams accent the sliding barn door which is also a refinished piece which is about 150 years old as well. The shabby chic mantel is also from a home in the original neighborhood of the legendary 'Doc Holliday' who was from Lowndes County (just over the Georgia/Florida line).
While history is all around, the modern-day oversized Garden Tub bath awaits you to ease away the time and relax. Then 'above it all' are the huge skylights constructed through the tin ceiling. From the ultra plush pillowtop bed, You can lie back and count the stars or watch the clouds roll by after an afternoon restful retreat.

I am originally from Valdosta, Georgia and my Husband David is from Norfolk, Virginia. Our lives have taken us all over, but most of our careers have been in Atlanta, Ga and Richmond, VA. We now live in the Tidewater Area of Virginia on the Elizabeth River.

The Contract for this new 'old' home was finalized and signed between the George Estate and myself on the night of a 'Blue Moon' in December of 2009.
You see, my son, Alex had recently graduated from Law School at UGA and I had been living in Atlanta for almost nine years.
I decided to leave the fast pace life of Buckhead, and was naturally drawn back to return to the vacation lands of my childhood. My parents had been bringing their six children to the beaches of St. George Island and the Five and Dime Store of Apalach since 1968.
As I crested the Bridge of Apalach at sunset, I could see the leaky rooftop of this home full of history, but a home which had laid empty for many years.
You see, the George Family gave birth to nine first generation children here after a young couple made their way from Greece to Ellis Island to Apalachicola Circa 1895 to 1900.
Now in 2010 as the new owner, I decided to stop by the Gibson to join the locals for the traditional Friday gathering. How was I to know a 'tourist' would be there to sweep this Newest Apalach Homeowner off her feet?
Our lives changed and WE are now living on the Elizabeth River in the Tide Water area of Virginia!

We had scheduled 3 days prior to our stay and contacted Susan the day before our arrival and she let us know that the property was empty if we should get there sooner that we expected, just text, we did, and Susan made the adjustments and we slid right in at 9:30 pm. EVERYTHING is within walking distance. Food, shopping, sightseeing. Clean and comfortable. Any property by this couple would be an excellent experience. Thanks
Very comfortable and aesthetically pleasing loft overlooking waterfront and literally steps from restaurants, sights, and shops. Owners easy to reach if necessary. We WILL come back!
We really enjoyed the Blue Moon Carriage House. Ideal location, tasteful furnishings and wonderful host, made for a relaxing weekend getaway. We will definitely stay there again.
This was the perfect place to stay for me: non-commercial, lots of character and creativity put into the design and everything was in just the right place, natural sunlight, plenty of plugs, great balcony for sipping coffee, spirits and dreaming about living in Apalach. I loved the rockers on the side balcony - very comfortable and the palm tree kept it shaded half of the time. Very convenient to everything including SGI, downtown and off street parking good too. Susan and David put a lot of love and thought into the Carriage house. The space is small, but similar to a hotel and a thousand times better. Perfect for 1 - 2 people, but I would not recommend 3. Internet connection was a bit spotty at times, so unless you're there for work, then you should be ok.
We added the carriage house to our family stay at the Blue Moon this year. We, Granny and Grandpa, stayed there. The rest of the family stayed in the main house, very nice! This unit is fabulous for two people! It can accommodate three people as well. A perfect base for Apalach wanderings.
Wow! I was so impressed with how well everything was built/placed. Spacious and very clean. Every hook and nook is so cleverly designed. Location was great. We rented a golf cart and walked everywhere in town. Coming back to the carriage house was so wonderfully relaxing. Owner was so helpful with things to do and places to dine. I'm trying to plan my next trip out there and I plan on stayin here again. Highly recommended.
