Charming Sicilian apartment with spectacular views
We stayed in this apartment for 14 days. We found the property pristine on arrival. The host Marie was there to welcome us and she also got us milk and stocked up the fridge with water etc. The apartment is very well positioned, 5 mins walk from the Mondello square and the beach too. It’s a very spacious apartment. We found the bed, linen and the sofa beds very comfortable.
The terrace added a perfect touch for our two little boys aged 6 and 4 years. The apartment had all the amenities to make our stay comfortable. We hired a car, used the apartment as a base to explore most of Sicily.
Marie also arranged a cheaper transfer for us to the airport. The WiFi was a great speed too.
Thank you Marie so much for your hospitality. We don’t agree with all the bad reviews etc,for us the apartment proved to be a perfect home for 14days.
The apartment was very much in need of an update. The kitchen counters were falling apart, especially around the sink. The bed in the bedroom only slept one as you rolled toward the middle and the other two were futons ( ok for kids but not adults). All furniture was worn.
On the positive side there was lots of room and a beautiful view.
The owner was very nice.
Cute apartment close to the waterfront
The owners, Mary and Roberta, met us at the apartment as we arrived. They were so happy and we felt that they were genuinely happy to see us. They were so friendly and we felt quite welcome. We had a slight language problem that was helped greatly by Google Translate on all our phones.
They had left a bottle of local wine, bottled water and a few snacks for us. That was great because most everything closes down in the afternoon. It was a spacious apartment on the 3rd level. Tons of room with all that we needed for our stay. The kitchen was huge and bright with windows on three sides. There was a spacious terrace that was an inviting area to drink and dine outside. It is just a few minute walk to the waterfront that has many restaurants, shops, sights to see and a grocery store. We enjoyed our stay. The shower was quite small and barely big enough for one person, but we laughed about the size.
When we left Mary and Roberta met us again. Good conversation despite our lack of Italian and their lack of the English language.
The location, price and size of their rental makes it a little gem in the Mondelle beach community.
Horrible, dirty, moldy rundown apartment. Way overpriced and I feel I was robbed.
Would never stay there again. The only positive about the apartment is the view. It was dirty, rundown and the furniture was old and uncomfortable. The screens were torn or missing so you could not open the windows unless you didn't care if bugs came in. There was not enough hot water in the shower, which was so small you couldn't turn around in it. We were blowing circuits all the time. You could not use the blow dryer if the air conditioner was on. The handles kept falling off of the terrace doors and there were exposed wires in the wall. Never met the owner and am confused as to who it is. Mr. DiLorenzo asked me to pay cash to Mr. Cangelosi who he said was the owner. He said the owner did not want to pay the fees. I also have not received my damage deposit of 100 euros which was supposed to be refunded to me. I have pictures of the mold, dirt, torn screens and more. I will never trust VRBO again.
we are very shocked to read complains you have never told us during your stay! If you had contacted us immediately (as also written in the rental agreement you signed) for complaining what you speak about in your review, we would have surely had the possibility, first of all, to verify the existence of the problems with you, after your departure it is a bit difficult.... of course!
No other reviews complain about dirtyness, mold, discomfort of the apartment. Actually, the house has always stood out for its cleanliness.
It’s strange to hear also you have never met the owner since she welcomed you… but what is funnier is you ask to have back a damage deposit you have never paid, neither cash nor online directly to the owner who you met when you arrived! I strongly suggest you to check your bank account and verify you have never paid the damage deposit, before accusing honest people.
Shocked also to read you felt as robbed and that the house was overpriced. You booked a whole house in the heart of Mondello, the most famous beach place of Sicily with a fantastic view on the sea, for lower price than a B&B.
In conclusion, I suggest you to pay more attention before booking your next holiday, in order to avoid complains for “missing” facilities never advertised, for example the parking!!

This charming seaside village, settled between the two rocky hills Monte Pellegrino and Monte Gallo, has a very interesting history. At first, it was a fishing marshy village, until Prince Francesco Lanza di Scalea started the drainage in 1891. In the early ‘900s, a Belgian society obtained the handover of a big portion of this territory, committing itself to create an high-class seaside village; thereby they built a luxury hotel; a bathing resort on the sea, which is also a very elegant and well-known restaurant today; lots of liberty style villas, that you can still admire around; kiosks, gardens and so on.
Its lovely bay encompasses a characteristic marina, just opposite to the main square of Mondello, where you will also see the old watchtower of Fico D’India and the “tonnara”, a Sicilian typical building for tuna fishing, both surrounded by bars and restaurants today.
Natural reserves of Capo Gallo and Monte Pellegrino
The Natural Reserve of Capo Gallo is reachable through a coast path, on the west part of the village. Monte Gallo is a promontory overlooking the sea, surmounted by a white tower called “Semaforo”.It is rich in caves, whose the most famous is “Grotta dell’Olio”, a suggestive sea cavern with clear bright water and light sandy seabed brightened by rays of sunshine passing from some top fissures. This natural reserve has a varied flora and fauna: here you can see plants such as Brooms of Gasparrini, wild Orchids,Sicilian Sparviere and a lot of animals such as foxes, wild rabbits, peregrine falcons, real seabirds.
The Natural Reserve of Monte Pellegrino comprises the whole homonymous mountain and the royal estate of Favorita. Goethe described it as “The most beautiful promontory in the world”, maybe thanks to its magic contrasts, different nature colors, steep sides and practicable plains. Here there is the most important pilgrimage place of Palermo,Santa Rosalia’s sanctuary, with its particular rocky church.
Palermo is Sicily’s cultural and touristic capital, thanks to its history, art and architecture. Its sights will really excite you. You must visit Massimo theatre, the biggest one in Italy and the third one in Europe; Piazza Politeama and its renowned theatre; the Medieval Cathedral; the Royal Palace with its Palatine Chapel; the International puppet museum; the Chinese Palace, an oriental building on the foot of Monte Pellegrino; the great number of interesting ancient churches, such as “Casa Professa”, “Church of Martorana”, “Church Magione”, “S.S. Salvatore”, “Church of Santa Maria dello Spasimo” and a lot more.
Numerous tourists are really attracted by its delicious food, in particular by its “street food”, so you should not miss its typical street markets of Ballarò, Capo and Vucciria, which will catch your senses through unique smells, flavors and colors. Here you can find “pani e panelle”,“pani ca’ meusa”,“sfincione”,“stigghiola”,“vastedda” and many other culinary specialties.
Feasts and festivals
WORLD FESTIVAL ON THE BEACH
Since 1985, Mondello has been the place of an International sport festival, which includes beach volley, kite surf, windsurf, sailing and musical shows, hosting athletes and famous people from all over the world. It takes place in the end of May and it usually lasts 4-5 days.
FESTINO OF SANTA ROSALIA
The so called “Festino” is the most important feast for people of Palermo. It is on 15th July, but the great celebration is the night before, when the statue of the Saint wanders the streets of the old part of the city, that are full of food and toys stands. At the end of the holy procession there are very stunning fireworks in the seaport.
