Bedrooms 3
Property type cottage
Minimum Stay 3 - 7 nights

About the property

Mill Cottage is a delightful, cosy 3 bedroom cottage with character and lots of charm, in a quiet location in the beautiful north Cornwall countryside.

Mill Cottage is a 200 year old stone built barn conversion that has been tastefully renovated and refurbished and yet has retained its character. With 3 bedrooms, it comfortably sleeps 6 - perfect for families, couples or friends! There is also space for a travel cot in the double and one of the twin rooms.

Situated 1.5 miles from the stunning Bossiney Haven beach and coastal path, Mill Cottage is in an "Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty" and is the perfect place to spend a peaceful and relaxed holiday.  The hamlet of Trevillet feels deep in the countryside with stunning sea views over unspoilt rolling countryside, but is actually only 2 miles from the popular town of Tintagel with all its shops and restaurants. Here you will find the castle, the coastal path, Cornwall’s highest waterfall, beautiful woodlands and some of the finest sandy beaches only a beautiful stroll or 5 minute drive away.

The cottage is equipped with everything you need to have a comfortable stay - whether you want to fully self-cater, or whether you'd prefer to take advantage of the many local restautrants, cafes and pubs. The enclosed garden provides seating and space to sit, relax, and listen to birdsong and breathe in the sea air.  With no through traffic to the hamlet, Trevillett is quiet enough for your children to explore the lanes and public footpaths right on the doorstep.  At night the display of stars is breathtaking, as is the sea view from the end of the lane.

Mill Cottage is an inverted cottage - enter into the open plan living and dining area and go down to the bedrooms and bathroom.

Living / dining / kitchen area - Open plan beamed lounge and dining area with wood burner, TV and DVD/Blu-ray player. The kitchen area has been equipped to a high standard with cooker, microwave, fridge-frezer, dishwasher and washing machine.

Lovely cottage. Very peaceful in a lovely area

  • 5 of 5

We loved the cottage, it was very cozy and comfortable. The kids loved the garden and swings, and especially the bedrooms being downstairs. We loved the area with the coves and St Nectan’s Glen. We will be booking again next year.

Fantastic property and incredible surroundings

  • 5 of 5

Quite simply, the pictures do not do this property justice. It was comfortably large for our family of 5 and offered a great place to return to at the end of the day. Warm, cosy and comfortable. All the facilities you would expect were present and correct as advertised.

There were no easy views of the coast from within the property, but that didn't matter as its setting up the hill from Tintagel was still spectacular. For the majority of people, it will be a short drive into the village down a long steep hill but it could be done.

This part of Cornwall is spectacular. We were not lost for things to do, even with some of the tourist places shut for the Winter. The Eden Project, Tintagel Brewery, Tintagel Castle, Boscastle, Port Isaac are all worth a trip. Or just utilise the stunning coastal path which can be found 1 1/4 miles down the hill.

Finally, communications with the owners were prompt and the info on how to find the place and details of the property were accurate. Highly recommended.

Cosy, comfortable and for an old stone property no hint of mustiness!

A couple of gripes - before I tell you how much we loved it = constructive criticism: having carefully read the details on the website when we booked it says all bedlinen and towels included. After paying we were invited to download the app - which I skimmed through, taking note of the arrival details and broadband password - I didn't notice that the app description says that a hand towel is included - not towels in the plural enough for bathing. We called the caretaker's number and were advised that towels were never provided - she did offer to bring over some of her own, but since I recognised the number would be most likely in Camelford, I said we would borrow from friends in Tintagel. The other gripe was the shower. My mother who is 84 and not so spritely on her feet especially in the bath found it particularly difficult to control the temperature of the shower which was erring on the bit-too-hot side. My sister found when she used the shower that a pool formed down beside the toilet and this was where the toilet roll holder stood.

A suggestion would be a table lamp or two in the lounge as the lighting is fairly glaring when sitting.

That said, we thought that the sofas and beds were extremely comfortable and everywhere smelt fresh and clean. The kitchen was very well equipped and there were essential bits of food/drinks/etc which were very welcome. My son, who is 12, particularly liked the tv/satellite/blue ray player and this kept him entertained. The selection of DVDs was good and there were some games, although one which required the playing of a DVD ("Scene-" something) was unsuccessful as the DVD would not play past the opening menu. Also Wifi is great!

Sitting outside on the bench in the afternoon/evening sun was fab.

A great place to come and be cosy and homely I imagine in the winter as well as the summer. I would certainly recommend it.

Owner's Response: Hi Sue, Thanks so much for the review. We apologise for the confusion over towels. The website has since been corrected, so there shouldn't be any confusion in future. The hot water in the shower is something we'll address as soon as we can. Thanks for highlighting it! We're so glad you had a great time apart from those small gripes! We hope you'll come and stay again!

Whether you're into sunbathing, surfing or stargazing; heritage and history or hiking; the area around Mill Cottage has something for everyone. Andy and Liz bought the cottage, not only because we fell for its charm and character, but also we were wowed by its surroundings. Here are some of the highlights - all within a short drive away. Mill Cottage is nearest to the village of Tintagel, which has shops, pubs and restaurants - less than 2 miles away.

Within 10 minutes' drive

St Nectan's Glen, woodland and waterfall, is within easy reach of the cottage - you can access the waterfall (St Nectain's Kieve) and woodland via the public footpath that runs near the cottage. Although you need to pay to see the waterfall itself, it is free to walk through the lovely wooded valley and visit the Hermitage, where you can stop at the cafe, shop and gallery.

Bossiney Haven and Benoath Cove, Trebarwith Strand

For a day at the coast explore beautiful Bossiney Haven and Benoath Cove, linked at high tide, (left and centre) for stunning cliffs via the steep footpath (not for the faint hearted), or Trebarwith Strand (right) for superb surfing, a couple of shops, surf hire and a café through the summer. Both have a car park and toilets a little walk from the beach and plenty of sand at low tide.

Tintagel - heritage, history and legend

Visit Tintagel castle, the historic National Trust Old Post Office in the centre of bustling Tintagel, fascinating Arthurian Centre and the picturesque fishing village of Boscastle.

Within 40 minutes' drive

Great day trips are easily within reach for everyone in all weathers including the magnificent estates of Lanhydrock House and Pencarrow, and pretty fishing villages such as Port Isaac – home of Doc Martin, recent TV drama. Visit The Courtroom Experience and Bodmin Jail, Newly developed Camel Creak Adventure Park, Jamaica Inn, National Lobster Hatchery, Bodmin and Wenford Steam Railway, Bodmin Moor for tremendous walking and hiking, or the Camel trail for easy walking and bike hire.

Of course the highlight for many are the fabulous beaches, perfect for rockpooling or relaxing, including Crackington Haven, Widemouth Bay and Rock, all with plenty of amenities. The 300 miles of Coastal Path beckons anyone who enjoys admiring long golden beaches and secluded coves, with many places to stop for food and refreshment along the way.

Within an hour's drive

Find the world famous Eden project and Lost Gardens of Heligan, spectacular cliffs of Bedruthan Steps (left), ancient town of St Austel, popular Newquay, and many more places of interest besides if you are happy to travel a little further afield.
