Why Stephen Hall chose Isle of Skye

Although only 10 minutes from Carbost, Raven Cottage and Eynort is a world away from rush of modern life. This is a real escape into the peace and quiet that most people can only dream of elsewhere in the UK.

What makes this cottage unique

Walking, biking, eagle spotting, history going back over 1000 years, even some summer river swimming, all direct from the cottage. Peaceful even compared to the rest of Skye.

Nice cottage, great cental location!

  • 4 of 5

Raven Cottage was a great place to stay for us! Well equipped and comfortable, with miles of hiking, mountain biking trails few steps away. My children enjoyed privet fenced yard and all the games and movies! I was also a great central base to explore the whole island. One week was a bit too short...

Lovely location, brilliant views, warm and homely cottage with plenty entertainment

  • 5 of 5

Raven Cottage is a beautiful home with a big back garden and stream. The driving instructions provided were essential but with them we had no problem locating the property. The cottage was fully equipped and came with several games DVDs and a tv. We had some lovely relaxing evenings and great fun even for just us two adults. Although designed for a family I still think this is a great place for a couple to stay. Steven and Ruth were very helpful in responding to our queries and the bottle of Skye red and postcard was a much appreciated warm welcome. Skye weather is not the best but don't let it phase you. One of our favourite holidays and no midges in Autumn!

You will NOT be disappointed.

  • 5 of 5

The cottage was perfect for us! Very well appointed with everything we needed for our stay for the 6 of us. The pictures of the garden can not do it justice! For this city girl, I felt like I was swept away into a fairytale world (ironically the Fairy Pools are just over the hills behind you). The stargazing was unlike any experience we've ever had! Sadly, the telescope in the picture was no longer there. An added bonus we noticed were the kayaks; nice touch.

We dealt w Steve several times and he responds quickly and is very pleasant to deal with. We also had to contact the housekeepers for a question on check out day and they were fantastic as well.

The little village of Carbost has a great Pub and an amazing place to get incredibly fresh, no frills, seafood (note, it's either takeaway or they have picnic tables outside if weather permits).

Did I mention the Highland coos in the field behind the house?!!! I wanted to be their friend

so badly and they wouldn't have it, but we loved seeing them every morning.

Helpful hint: the gate isn't only for security. I do believe this might be one of the safest places on earth.... but, it will keep out the sheep that freely graze and wander all of the area.

The only, and I do emphasize ONLY thing we didn't love about the cottage was the fact that the matteresses are on the cheaper side and we all fealt the springs with every turn during the night. That was a common complaint across the board with our group,

ages 23-60. I think mattress toppers would make for a vast improvement and be an inexpensive way to make the beds much more comfortable.

The final word is this though, this cottage exceeded all our expectations and we will definitely keep this property as one we would return to if we find ourselves back on Skye.

Thank you for sharing your property with us.

Owner's Response: Thank you for the comments and suggestion. Mattress toppers purchased and fitted. The bunks have new mattresses. Quick note to future guests - sorry but the kayaks aren't for guest use, I'm sure you can appreciate the liability issues should an inexperienced guest have an accident. The kayaking is brilliant but please bring your own!

Wonderful Cottage in Quiet Location

  • 5 of 5

Our family of 5 loved our stay in the Raven Cottage. The setting was perfect, tucked away in a quiet glen next to the bay and a forest. The gardens were well kept and added to the tranquility of the home. There was a bed for each of our kids and a nice master suite upstairs. Do note that the master suite is up a narrow spiral staircase and does not have a door to block noise from the lounge below. The kitchen was well stocked and had everything we needed, the TV worked well and had several channels to choose from. We really enjoyed our stay!

The cottage is located in the village of Eynort on the West of Skye on the Minginish peninsula. Carbost is 4 miles away and has a wee shop selling all the essentials plus petrol, a post office with free cash withdrawals, a play area for children, a medical centre, The Old Inn pub and the world famous Talisker distillery.

Portree is the main town on Skye and is about 30 minutes drive from the cottage. There you will find supermarkets, many shops for local crafts, tea rooms and restaurants and a cinema.

Skye highlights;

All the main access points to the Cuillins are within half an hours drive of the cottage. Even if mountain climbing is not your thing, be sure to take the short walk in Glenbrittle to the Fairy Pools.

Neist Point lighthouse is the Western tip of Skye and certainly worth a visit. Take a gentle amble at sunset to experience spectacular cliff views.

The Trotternish peninsula is also worth a trip to see the Old Man of Storr, Kilt Rock waterfall, Staffin bay and a drive across to the Quiraing. Follow the dinosaur trail as you go - particularly fun for children.

The Waternish peninsula and Dunvegan are also a fabulous day out where you can visit Dunvegan castle and gardens, the Coral beaches and Macleods Tables.
