A beautifully renovated Cornish house with bags of style and history. Comfortably sleeping 6 to 8 people and has 3 bathrooms. There are pretty gardens, a stunning reinstated veranda with views through the charming conservation village of Tywardreath and a barn with full-size table tennis table. Only a few miles to Fowey and approximately a 20 minute walk to the lovely sandy (dog-friendly) beach at Par.

The Gables is a beautifully renovated detached house with bags of style and history. This lovely holiday home is comfortable and flexible and suits a wide range of requirements, sleeping 6 to 8 people. From the stunning reinstated veranda, the views down through the pretty village of Tywardreath (also known as 'The House on The Strand'), are delightful. This charming village close to Fowey, has a local store, award winning butcher and excellent village pub. It is only a 20 minute walk to the lovely sandy beach, Par Sands which is one of the only all year round dog friendly beaches. There are pretty, mature gardens with a variety of shrubs and trees as well as a Barn with a full size table tennis table. Two well behaved dogs are welcome.

The house is close to main line train station in Par, just a 5 minute drive or half an hour walk. Par station has direct connections with London Paddington, there's even a night train!

The property was completely refurbished last year and offers bright, spacious, comfortable accommodation with many charming touches of ‘times gone by’. The Gables is an ideal choice for families (small or large), friends sharing or just a couple looking for a quiet, relaxing holiday with plenty of space.

The house is accessed through a pretty terraced garden leading up to the beautifully renovated Victorian veranda to the front of the property, a perfect place to sit with your morning tea and watch the comings and goings of the village or relax and enjoy the afternoon sunshine whilst knowing Daphne Du Maurier enjoyed this very spot too!

At the rear of the house there is amply parking for two cars, which can provide level access to the back door if needed. The rear garden is secluded and private, blooming with all kinds of interesting trees, shrubs and flowers at all times of the year.

Why Mrs & Mrs, Ian and Jo Menhinick chose Newquay & St Austell area

The Gables has lots of history and was owned by my Grandparents in the 1950's to the 1970's. We bought it back in 2013 and fully renovated the property as a holiday house.

Aside from our own family history, The Gables is connected with the novels Daphne du Maurier wrote during her lifetime living close to the house at the Menabilly Estate and then at Kilmarth. We know that she visited the house and knew my grandparents quite well. Her book The House on The Strand is based around the village of Tywardreath, and there may be lots of other connections you can uncover for yourselves if are a du Maurier enthusiast.

What makes this house unique

The house is set near the heart of the village and looks down through the main street. South-facing, it is always bright and sunny at the front. The reinstated Victorian Veranda provides a wonderful place to sit and relax and watch the world gp by.

The house is only about a 20 minute walk to the nearest beach, Par sands, which is dog-friendly all year round. It's a lovely soft golden sandy beach, perfect for picnics and bathing in the summertime.
