This lovely 5-bed villa has a great holiday feel and being located in a quite residential area, close to all facilities and to the access to the motorway system, it is the perfect choice for a family holiday or to explore the island.

From the entrance hall, stairs lead to the large very family friendly open-plan living space with large tall windows that bring in plenty of light. The sitting area has comfortable seating and a very large cable TV.

A 10-seat dining table is found next to the breakfast bar and open-plan fully equipped kitchen that leads to a laundry and opens via French doors to the pool solarium. A guest toilet can be found on this floor.

The high wall surrounding the large pool solarium makes it very private and a veritable suntrap. The large rectangular pool alongside the wide covered verandah with built-in barbecue and outdoor dining becomes the centre point for your leisure time in the villa.

On the lower level is a games room with a snooker table, table football, and floor mats which are ideal for yoga or pilates practice.

There are two Master Bedrooms, each with their own en-suite bathroom, one on the ground floor, ideal for those with mobility restrictions, and one on the first floor. A double bedroom and a further bedroom with a double bed and two single beds (single bed with pull-out single low single bed) share the family bathroom on the first floor. All first floor bedrooms lead to the balcony that runs along the whole front of the house with views of the mountains and sea - the perfect place for quiet moment.

On the lower ground floor, off the entrance, is a further bedroom with two double beds which use the shower room next door of the games/yoga room. Although the house is shown for a maximum occupancy of 12, by sharing the double beds in this room, the maximum capacity goes up to 14.

The owners of Casa Petronella own and operate the Nau Santa Maria, a replica of Comubus's sailing ship, which offers daily sails along the coast. Guests of Casa Petronella benefit from a 10% discount when tickets are purchased locally via the owner and paid in cash.

Swimming pool heating:

Pool heating is optional and costs 120,00€ per week for a setting of 24ºC, paid in cash on arrival. A supplement of 30,00€ per week applies for each additional degree set up to a maximum of 26ºC

Pool heating should be requested at least one week in advance. Should it be requested after arrival at the villa, the minimum charge applicable is one week, which is payable from the time the heating is turned on.

Everything is on your doorstep.

Only 300 metres away isn a large restaurant/takeaway, Pizzeria, mini-market and couple of cafés/restaurants.

Restaurants, bars, supermarket and banks are only 700m away..

The walk to the town centre is only 20 minutes, where you have more shopping, a theatre, cathedral, market and marina.

Car hire is always useful to get out and about to see the sights of the island, however if your intention is to laze around the pool and spend your days in town, it is not necessary.

The advertised prices are based on a 4-person occupancy and supplements apply should additional people join you for any length of time.

Our stay at Casa Petronella was great. It looks exactly like we've seen on the pictures. It's also perfectly for children. The son of my friend (5 y/o) was very happy there! Petronella and Jorge supported us the whole stay on madeira. They've booked some of our trips or our car and they've helped us with every problem. Everything was very uncomplicated. So for wonderful holidays on Madeira we will advise to choose this house. We would like to come back in a few years to hike on Madeira. Many thank's to Petronella and Jorge for those great holidays. Great villa

8 of us (4 adults and 4 children) just spent a week in Casa Petronella. We had a great time, the villa is very clean and well appointed and has pretty much everything you need. Petronella welcomed us on arrival and showed us round. She was very welcoming and had a lot of information about the villa and the local area. She also told us to call her anytime if we needed anything. The villa is a little way out of the centre of Funchal which is a 30 min max walk (we didn’t hire a car), but it’s all down hill and gives you a chance to see and appreciate the local area. We never attempted to walk back up as there are loads of cabs which cost about €10 (however most cab drivers didn’t seem to know where the villa was so make sure you know the address). There is a great supermarket less than 10min walk which has everything you need, they have a great bakery and butchers and everything is reasonably price. Overall we had a lovely stay, the villa is in a lovely quiet location with stunning views and don’t be put off with it being near the main road as you cannot hear it. I would recommend this villa to any groups looking for an out of town relaxing location and a good base to explore the beautiful island.

Wonderful villa

We were very pleased with the villa and the location very close to shops. Took us a while to figure out the bus roots but once we got the hang off it was very easy. We would like to thank Petronella as she was very helpful.Mandy & Family

Beautiful large house - with a few downsides

We arrived for 10 days in November 2016. The property is really large and spacious and really great for large groups. The kitchen is well equipped and it even has a large utility. It was very clean and the living area really is spectacular. The pool is lovely but we are glad we paid extra to have it heated as it definitely needs to be.

The things we liked about this house was the space, the pool, the upstairs terrace was beautiful in the morning as you get the sunrise. It was very convenient for the supermarket and a few small bars, no restaurants near by though. The owner was brilliant, she stayed in touch and kept us informed of the mid stay bed and towel change and anything we asked for she sorted out. She couldn't have been more helpful. The views over Funchal are beautiful and it is close to the expressway so we could get other places very easily although a car is essential because although there are buses we found them to be erratic and the stop in to Funchal is a bit of a walk away probably a good 10 mins and there is no info in the villa for local buses or amenities.

A few downsides to the house are that there is no heating or air conditioning. We really could have done with some heating in the bedrooms at night although there is a lovely open fire in the lounge and we were given plenty of wood for it.

We found the bathrooms to be a little tired they could really do with a refurb. Also the beds were very hard, my husband ended up sleeping on the sofa. The basement area with a bedroom and games room we felt was almost unusable as there was an awful smell down there we assume the drains. There is some noise from the expressway as it is very near by and as its a residential area there were a lot of coming and goings at the side of the house which could be quite noisy. Also be aware that in November we lost the sun in the garden by about 4.30 so you don't get any evening sun. However saying all that we felt that for the money we paid it was very good value for money and I would stay there again.

Wonderful big house

We had a really good holiday in week 7, 2017. The house suited us very well. We were 7 pers. Three generations traveling together and we were able to divide us in the rooms, so everyone was happy. Thanks for Petronella, she was very helpful.

The nearest facilities are only 300m away. Here you will find a mini-market, a fruit and vegetable shop, a couple of caf��s and a pizzeria.

A large supermarket, petrol station, restaurants, cafés and other shops (such as a butcher, bank and pharmacy) can be found 700 metres away.

Funchal centre and the Lido area are both around 3 km away.

Access to the motorway is very close, which is perfect for access to explore the island and walks.
