New Years get away
We loved this cabin! It was nice and cozy. The fireplace was amazing. We enjoyed near by hiking as well as a nice walks around the lake. Would love to come back in the summer and enjoy the water more.would definitely recommend this place for a small group or a family looking for a quiet get away.
Little House in the Big Woods
No rustic cabin is Brookside Nook! Indeed, this immaculate glass and wood gem was our delightful home away from home for a relaxing week. Sharon and Michael anticipated all of our needs, with a well-furnished kitchen, thick snowy bathtowels, and a roaring fire at the flick of a switch. We loved the views from every window (especially the master bedroom), and enjoyed breathtaking scenery while traveled the winding back roads in every direction during our stay. And always there was the gentle music of the gurgling stream right out front!
We can’t wait to go back!
Because the house sits right next to a state park we had access to all of the trails and the lake. We fished and kayaked, rented a paddle boat, hiked/biked/ran on the trails, and for a nominal fee spent a day on the beach - we didn’t want to leave! The park is also dog-friendly and the only place we couldn’t bring her was on the beach. My 7-year old participated in a free activity provided by the park rangers and learned about local birds. There are two playgrounds within walking distance, and you can also walk to the beach, where there’s a store to buy ice cream or lunch. The fire pit was perfect for making s’mores and my husband and I spent most of our time sitting on the huge deck overlooking a bubbling stream. The house itself had all of the amenities we could’ve asked for and it was exceptionally clean. The furnishings looked all new and was tastefully decorated. It was obvious the owners truly wanted us to enjoy our stay. We can’t wait to go back!
Beautiful and cozy home in the mountains
This house is in a great location! It comes equipped with everything that you would need. One of its best features is a huge deck that we spent the majority of our time on. Sharon is lovely and very helpful, I’m pretty sure we are going to make this an annual trip!
A place to rest and recharge
We have just returned from a wonderful weeklong stay at this cozy cabin. It was just what we needed to get away from our busy lives in Virginia Beach - and the oppresing heat this time of the year! Sharon wanted to meet us at the cabin at the beginning of the stay, but we were not able to make it in time, but she explained everything perfectly and we had no problems at all. She is very nice and approachable and very quick in responding! The cabin itself is located quite a walk away from the lake (beautiful lake!), and not as isolated as one would think. But we never saw any neighbors in our time there, which suited us perfectly. The houses of the neighbours are unfortunately not as pretty as this cabin! The cabin itself was spacious, clean and comfortable. The kitchen had everything we would need - the can opener could need a replacement though! The upstairs bedroom is huge and so pretty with all the windows! The beds are very comfortable! We had a wonderful time as a family of 5, plus our little dog. We hiked, kayaked, cycled (Virginia Creeper Trail from Damascus is a wonderful experience, and just about an hour away!), played games, tried making a bonfire but the wood was too wet to be successful, watched Netflix (bingewatched Friends!) and had the most wonderful time. Hungry Mother State park is a very pretty park - and not crowded at all. The restaurant was great for the Sunday Brunch. We went into Marion one evening and ate at Speakeasy - fantastic food, highly recommended! We are very sad to be back at the Beach after the lovely week in the cool mountain air. Hopefully we can come again some time!
