Why Drs. William and Brigid Russell chose Topsham
Our family bought this property some thirty-five years ago as a holiday home and it's always been a place of happiness for us. We can't bear to sell the house, but rarely have time to visit and so are renting it out for others to enjoy.
What makes this House unique
Topsham is a wonderful small town and retains its village feel with great facilities within a few minutes of the frontdoor.

We knew this would be good from the day we booked it due to the excellent comms. The house is beautifully presented. The garage is perfect for our car (Mondeo) and once you are used to getting in and out is very convenient in an otherwise difficult area to park due to the narrow streets. The kitchen is well equipped and is the perfect place to eat family meals. We hired bikes from Route 2 which is 100 yards away and very helpful. We took bikes out on two days and used them on the Exe Estuary Trail which is a great cycle path leading to Exeter, Exmouth or Dawlish. There are many places to eat and Topsham is a lovely area to walk and cycle.
Many thanks to Robert for his great comms about the house. We will return.
Emma, Jon and family.
Lovely period home in the heart of Topsham with views of the estuary.
The home is in the heart of Topsham and has everything you need for a comfortable stay. The check-in experience was simple and straightforward, and all the information we needed was provided for our arrival. After travelling for three weeks with two children, I particularly appreciated the washing machine! The house is easy walking to restaurants and pubs (with some practically on the doorstep). I'd particularly encourage visitors to consider hiring bikes and riding the estuary trail to Exmouth - even on a rainy day it is a great experience.
This is a little gem in a wonderful central location.
We thoroughly enjoyed our stay. This is a lovely property, the photos may not do enough justice as the living room was brighter than thought. The rooms were of a great size and although a very old property - it has been renovated to a wonderful standard.
We stayed with our two children (aged 3 and aged 7) and used it as a central base for visiting family in Exeter.
Parking is very limited in Topsham and the large garage underneath the property was fantastic. As warned - it does take a few goes reversing into it but once in - there is ample space. We own an estate car so that's fine - watch the tailgate however if you are in a 4x4 when you lift up the boot for larger cars. May want to ask the owner about that bit.
There is a pub (the Lighter.) next door which was excellent - and a Coop a short stroll away for all the necessary along with other little shops.
It's amazingly quiet seeing that the road literally passes the front door. You can literally hear a pin drop in the evening which was excellent as it was so peaceful however you do have a wide range of pubs nearby and little places to eat.
We used the fab train which was a 10 min walk away - 15 minutes to Exeter and 15 mins (other direction) to Exmouth. It was SO cheap (£6 return can you believe it) for us. Makes a change!
Back to the cottage - everything provided and more - lovely and warm and cosy - really loved every part of it. Being a very old cottage it's quite uneven upstairs on the ground but that added to its character.
Plus sides: warm and cosy, lovely for couples and families, amazing location, fab with parking, amenities close to hand, wonderful view, very clean and very tidy, new kitchen equipment (wonderful kitchen - brand new). We had a slight problem but the owner was very quick to respond and came back and resolved.
Down side (being honest) - TV was too small really for the room but not a biggy for us - but others may think differently - couldn't see many films apart from using i-player as Now TV didn't work (needed password). Also - the shower was a bit of a fire and ice experience (I joked with hubby). If I were the owner I would definitely check that one out as it's either freezing or burning hot! Managed to just about get it right. If you are a bath lover them that's fine.
Would we go back: yes
Would we recommend: already have!!
Delightful place and lovely house.
The house is deceptively larger than we thought and the garage below was a God send. What a lovely area! There was plenty to do and see despite the unkindly weather; we will definitely come back.
A clean and very well presented property in a peacful setting
Entry was simple and the property was very well presented. The owners were very welcoming and responded to queries immediately.
Topsham is a nice quiet seaside (estuary) town with a village feel to it, there are many pleasant walks in and around the area.
Its restaurants are many and varied and will cater to most tastes. We particularly liked the Galley, L'estuaire and the Globe Inn.
Topsham makes and excellent base for touring Devon's many attractions and we would recommend it to anyone wanting a quiet restful holiday.
J'y retournerai volontiers.
Topsham swimming pool, Topsham museum, RSPB Nature Reserve, Exe Valley Trail, Exeter cathedral, Exmouth beach, arts and crafts shops, canoe and Bike rental, pubs and restaurants are all within five miles of the house. Exeter also offers gyms and clubs and Exmouth offers sea fishing, windsurfing and kayak rental.
