'The Lookout', as the name suggests, is a small, two bedroomed stone-built cottage commanding spectacular views in all directions. It is attached to the main house but has its own entrance and is totally private. Downstairs is a sitting-room with open-feature fireplace with a raised galley kitchen. Upstairs, it sleeps 2/3 with a shared bathroom. Outside is a secure, dog-friendly, enclosed walled garden with terrace.

About Michael Feben Smith
I am retired teacher, married to a community nurse and we have lived in the area for over twenty years. We are passionate about its unique opportunities for appreciating nature and, being musical, have become fully involved in several artistic societies and groups. Our golden retriever also seems to enjoy a life of endless, varied walks.
Michael Feben Smith purchased this Cottage in 1997
Why Michael Feben Smith chose Swanage
Having grown up first, in London then in Herefordshire, I was totally drawn to a life in the countryside out of choise. When an opportunity to teach in the Purbeck Hills presented itself, I abandoned London and fell in love with Dorset and its beautiful surroundings. Apart from a brief spell of teaching in Sussex, we have stayed here ever since. My wife also fell in love with the area when she began her hospital training in Weymouth so we have now managed to combine all our preferences.
What makes this Cottage unique
Sally and I fell in love with this property on a sparkling day in May when the skylarks were singing, the surrounding fields had just been harvested and the sky was pure blue. We then realised you could view key sites from each point of the compass: Corfe Castle to the north; the Isle of Wight to the east; Kingston to the west and Chapman's Pool to the south. We felt that its location was quite unique and we did not want to miss the opportunity. We have never regretted our decision.

Characterful property in stunning location
Michael and Sally made us feel really at home from the word go, with provisions for breakfast should we need them. The property is well equipped and clean, with a charming small garden and wonderful views from upstairs. There is a wide range of activities to suit all tastes within reasonably easy reach with a car and many walks from the front door if you want to give the car a rest! We included Kingston Lacey, Abbotsbury Gardens and Swannery, Tyneham village, Lulworth Cove and Durdle Door, and Corfe Castle, among others. We enjoyed eating at the Scott Arms in Kingston, the Castle Inn in Corfe Castle and in particular a mouthwatering supper at the Tea and Supper Room just down the road in Worth Matravers. We would happily stay there again if we return to the area.
Top of the world
The cottage was very comfortable and well fitted out. Michael Feben-Smith made us very welcome, both before and on arrival. The main drawback was the inability to have a proper shower as it was not possible to stand up in the bath. That was a fairly minor matter on a short break and was more than compensated for by the fabulous views and the clever use of the porthole windows to see over the countryside.
Property is located in an AONB and within the Jurassic Coastline and forms part of a World Heritage Site; there are views of Corfe Castle ruins; Steam Railway two miles away; it is within walking distance of the south-west coastal path;it is an easy drive to Studland Beach; RSPB - Arne Bird reserve for bird-watchers is close by; Monkey World, Bovington Tank Museum and Thomas Hardy's cottage are all within driving distance.
On day of departure, guests should aim to leave by 10.00am please.
