About Brenda Connely

We are Ted and Brenda Connely. Brenda grew up in Forks. Ted is from Nebraska but has been here on the Olympic Peninsula since 1976. We were living in Port Angeles when we found our river place. A friend mentioned the property might be available. We bought it and spent every spare moment for the next four years fixing up the old house on the property. One day in March of 2004 Brenda came back to the cabin from work in Port Angeles carrying Sam the cat, who had been the only one occupying the house in Port Angeles most of the time. 'We live here now,' she announced, 'we're always here anyway.' She got no argument from Ted and so the house in Port Angeles was sold and we became full time residents at the cabin. Since the cabin had only one bedroom and no garage, we decided to take care of both problems at once and build a garage with an apartment above. The loft was our guest room until we decided to buy a larger home closer to Forks, still on the river but not as special. We couldn't bring ourselves to sell the Riverside place so we decided to share it with others by turning in into a vacation rental. It has been gratifying to see our guests love it too. So many have told us they don't want to leave at the end of their stay.

Brenda Connely purchased this apartment in 1995

Why Brenda Connely chose Olympic Peninsula

Even though the property was all grown up with weeds and the house was very run down, we knew at first sight this was our place. The sparkling river running along the edge of the yard, the golden light coming through the trees, just the peaceful feel of the place. Many guests have used the word 'magical' to describe their feelings about the place.

What makes this apartment unique

We originally bought this property for our own vacation home with no thought of its potential as a vacation rental property. But not only is it a beautiful, relaxing, welcoming spot to stay, it is very handily located within an hour's drive of nearly all the attractions of the northwest section of Olympic National Park. Many guest comment on what a great base camp it is for seeing the park. We have often heard how nice it is to come home to after a day of hiking and exploring to sit by the river, BBQ on the deck, sit by the river, build a fire in the firepit, and sleep in the very comfortable beds.

Clean, comfortable stay with river views you can't beat!

  • 5 of 5

This was by far my favorite place that we stayed while visiting Washington state. The location was perfect for exploring Olympic National Park and Port Angeles. The loft was very clean, and had everything you could possibly need. You also can't beat the view of the Sol Duc River. We spent quite a few nights just sitting out by it, and watching the birds and other wildlife go by. Thank you Brenda for an excellent experience! We would absolutely stay again!

Great place

  • 4 of 5

The place was very clean, well supplied, and well laid out. We comfortably fit there with two adults and two children (10 and 12 years-old). The property is beautiful, set right on the Sol Duc River. The only reason for the 4-star rating is the traffic noise from Highway 101.

Owner's Response: Thank you for the nice review Erik. Sorry about the noise from the highway. As more and more people visit the peninsula it get busier. Anyway, glad you liked the rest of the place and hope you can come back again. Fall is not as busy but it is very beautiful. Brenda

Wonderful place to stay

  • 5 of 5

Easy to find, right in the middle of Olympic national forest area and not far from everything. Very clean and well appointed place. Wifi is a little spotty but not a big deal. Great vacation rental.

Cozy place in a beautiful and convenient location

  • 5 of 5

We enjoyed our stay (2 nights) very much, the apartment is very well stocked and very cute. It is also convenient and central to many parts of Olympic National Park. The grounds and river are beautiful.....you can sit on the small back deck with your morning coffee and watch the sunlight sparkling on the water.

You can hear some road noise but there is a large ceiling fan which provides good ventilation and white noise. Also, this is a rather small space (the bathroom is tight and the bed is in a corner)....would not recommend for more than 2 people (but it was perfect for us!).

Owner very helpful and friendly!

Peaceful,beautiful setting

  • 5 of 5

We couldn't have been more pleased with the property. Perfect setting to relax, read, rejuvenate yet centrally located for several day trips to the beach and to the Olympic National Forest . The loft was well equipped, very pleasant with the windows and fan, nice grill, well supplied. Lots of sitting areas inside and out. The booking was easy, the hosts more than helpful with directions and what to expect. The only negatives are minor..the bed was too soft, the TV too small, and there was no phone service(but did have wifi). The lack of electronic connection was fine with us for a couple of days. We would love to come back again and are even thinking of a family or friends get together and rent all 3 cabins! Thank you for having such a great place for us!

Wonderful Sanctuary from the City

  • 5 of 5

This is our second visit from San Diego to the A River Runs Through It cabin/cottages. That, in itself, says it all. We stayed in the Loft this time while other family members were in the Riverside cabin. We had all the necessary amenities of home, and the enjoyment of the camping outdoors experience. I spent my mornings, sitting by the river with a cup of coffee next to small warm fire. It was the retreat I /we needed. We'll be back!

This property is a great base camp for exploring the north Peninsula area of Olympic National Park.

It is located just off Highway 101 ten miles southwest of Lake Crescent providing quick and easy access to Lake Crescent Lodge, Storm King Ranger Station, Marymere Falls, Eagle Peak Ranger Station and Sol Duc Falls with hiking trails continuing into the Olympics.

Heading east from the cabins, it's less than an hour's drive to the main Park visitor center in Port Angeles, Hurricane Ridge, and the ferry to Victoria, British Columbia.

West from the cabins 8 miles is the junction of Hwy 113 which will take you to the Lake Ozette Ranger Station and the loop trail to the ocean at Ozette, the Makah Museum and Cape Flattery on the Makah Reservation. Shi Shi Beach on the Makah reservation is one of the most beautiful and remote beaches on the west coast.

Continuing from the cabins on 101 past the 113 junction for 9 miles will take you to Highway 110, (La Push road) providing access to 1st beach at La Push, the trailheads for Beach 2 and 3 and Rialto Beach across the Quillayute River.

Just past the 110 junction you will enter the town of Forks which provides shopping, restaurants, and Twilight attractions. Continuing south from Forks for 12 miles will take you to the access road for Hoh Rain Forest visitor center with miles of hiking rails. Another 25 miles south on 101 you will find Kalaloch Lodge perched on the bluff above miles of beautiful sandy beaches. There are many access points to this stretch of beach.

Many guests have told us how nice it is to come back to our cabins after a day of hiking and exploring to sit by the river, BBQ on the decks or soak in the hot tubs.
