The Old Forge Pumphouse Annex

Overview

About the property

A comfortable 1 bed annex, set in a wooded valley next to the Gwendraeth river.

The annex has one bedroom, bathroom with shower over the bath, and living / kitchen area, which is well stocked and offers a "home from home" feeling for a couple seeking a quiet restful break away from it all. A small, fenced, garden offers a private seating area, which is ideal if you are bringing your dog. The Gwendraeth River runs to the front of the property and offers fishing during the season and if you are very brave, swimming in the summer! The holiday accommodation adjoins the owners property and sits in a 2 acre small holding. We have chickens, goats, bees, cats and dogs. For the birdwatcher, the woodland and river is home to many unusual birds - the dipper is here all year round and the kingfisher is around in the summer. Woodpeckers are a regular visitor, along with most of the Tit and Finch family. We know otters are in the river and we have a large bat colony under the eaves of our house.

About The Owner

Paul and Cathy moved to Kidwelly to enjoy a quieter life; not to put our feet up, but to have a complete change of scene, working life and indulge ourselves in learning new skills and have an adventure. Paul has enjoyed himself outside making paths, outbuildings, gates and creating seating areas, whilst Cathy has enjoyed gardening, beekeeping, goats, chickens, spinning, knitting, preserving and soap making.

The Owner purchased this cottage in 2009

Why The Owner chose Kidwelly

The area is unique - we are not far from a main road but because we are in a wooded valley we very rarely hear any traffic. There is a lot of wild life to watch; wild flowers grow in abundance, and you get engulfed in the tranquillity of the area - the river is very soothing.

What makes this cottage unique

It is an ideal place to relax and unwind.

Guestbook comments from the owner

We were visiting family over Christmas and there just wasnt room for all of us and our dog at the family house, so we happened upon the Annex! Cathy and her partner made us feel so welcome and the place was just what we needed - a comfortable and warm hideaway. Stripes, the whippet would also like to recommend the underfloor heating. We hope to visit again soon. M xxx

My Response

We really enjoyed having you to stay and so glad Stripes enjoyed the underfloor heating!!

Cosy, secluded, central.

  • 5 of 5

We had a lovely time staying in The Old Forge Pumphouse Annex. Cathy and Paul were wonderful hosts, always there if we needed anything. There was a very generous welcome pack of fresh eggs, milk, fruit and condiments on arrival. The accomodation itself was very clean, warm and cosy, with great hot water. The location is quiet and secluded, yet central to most of the sightseeing in South Wales. The best part for us was watching the wild birds and squirrels, from our bed, first thing in the morning. Thankyou Cathy and Paul.

Wonderful cottage in picturesque location.

  • 5 of 5

A cosy and comfortable cottage, providing everything needed for a break away in a quiet corner of Carmarthenshire. Well equipped kitchen with space including comfortable sofa and dining table. Views of the garden from the rooms were delightful, a real pleasure to wake up to, as was the gentle sound of the river. Exploring the gardens along the winding paths, past the chickens and goats, all added to the joy of the place. Cathy and Paul were lovely hosts providing information on the surrounding area, but they also gave us our privacy. Would definitely recommend a stay here.,
