Minimum Stay 2 - 3 nights

About the property

1 Church Square is a quaint listed house in the Citadel centre of Rye

I will do reduced price for longer stays! I just don't know how to do it in the listing!

Number 1 Church Square has 4 floors with 2 double bedrooms and 2 bathrooms.

Enter through the front door from the cobbled square into a hallway off which you will find a large fully-equipped kitchen with fridge-freezer, dishwasher and Nespresso machine and a separate dining room with table and chairs for 4-6 people plus leather armchair for reading the papers.

Also on this floor is a back door leading out to a small shared courtyard with exit to the church and small public garden where you can sit and enjoy a glass of wine in the evening. There is a laundry area by the back door with washing machine, dryer and cloakroom sink.

Downstairs is a basement room with wall-mounted 42' TV with multi channels plus Freeview and Netflix capability plus a DVD player with a large selection of DVDs. Please note that the ceiling in this room is low but there is natural light from a pavement window

Upstairs on the first floor are two double bedrooms.

Bedroom 1 has a 5' king size bed with zip and link mattresses which can be converted into two 2'6" singles. This bedroom has an en suite bathroom with freestanding bath, basin and toilet.

Bedroom 2 has a 5' king size bed.

Upstairs again on the second floor is a large bathroom with freestanding bath, separate shower enclosure, basin, toilet and bidet.

Please note that all the stairs in the house are steep and narrow so not suitable for guests with limited mobility ..

About Nicola Dealtry

My family and I have lived in Burwash, about 45 minutes inland from Rye, for 15 years. My 3 teenage sons have grown up spending weekend days in Rye and at nearby Camber Sands with its 3 mile sandy beach. We often go to Rye for shopping and cinema trips or for meals out in the evening and we decided it would be great to have a place to stay so we didn't have to drive home! Number 1 Church Square is the ideal place to wander back to after an evening at the Globe pub or a fabulous fish dinner at Webbes or an evening watching a film with a glass of wine at Kino, the digital cinema 100 yards away from the house!

Nicola Dealtry purchased this house in 2016

Quirky cottage, full of character.

  • 5 of 5

A lovely historical cottage, on various levels with quirky shaped rooms and decorated beautifully throughout. Comfy beds, luxury-roll top baths. The teenagers still managed to scrap over who got to have a bath in the attic. The house is on a cobbled street in the most beautiful part of Rye within easy walking distance of cafes, restaurants, church and a little cinema, all at quite a cosy scale. I strongly recommend walking along the cobbled streets at night, enjoying the atmosphere - no cars, quiet lantern light on cobbles and beautiful buildings. We had a delightful weekend stay and would love to come back.

Cosy and characterful property.

  • 5 of 5

Exacty what we needed for a relaxing stay at picturesque Rye over the New Year period. Great communication from the property owner - everything as described. Bags of character and period detail. Highly recommended.

Quaint old house but beds aren’t very comfortable

  • 3 of 5

Loved Rye. Wonderful little town with very friendly people. The house was good but beds were squeaky and uncomfortable. The shower was the smallest we’d ever encountered and was awkward but we managed. The downstairs tv rooms seating wasn’t comfortable and it was very stuffy and dusty. We spent most of the time in the dining room, which could’ve afforded more comfortable seating. Regardless of these small gripes we had a lovely time.
