About Penny Aguirre
My parents came to sugarbush when I was a youngster more than 30 some years ago and I now have a home there as do many of my relatives. It was such a gift to know and love this lake. I also own the local winery, Richwood Winery, and spend most of the summer in paradise.
Why Penny Aguirre chose Sugar Bush
My parent's home is special as it has a beach, which is rare in this tree-lined , often steep banked lake. It is has been completely updated to provide modern conveniences while keeping the charm of the log cabin in the woods that my parents created.
What makes this Cabin unique
Pontoon available for rent (the preferred method of cruising the lake), a canoe, kayaks, beach, very isolated on a private dead end road. Dogs are welcome and because it is so isolated, most have been able to freely run round without worry. Internet, cable, Netflix, blue ray are also there if you want it. To be on one of the cleanest lakes in Minnesota with wild life abundant is an experience I want to share with others.

Awesome family weekend!
My husband and I with our 4 young kids rented this cute cabin for Labor Day weekend. We had so much fun. The cabin was really cute, nice updated kitchen with everything you could need. It was really clean and we all slept great. We rented Penny's pontoon boat which was awesome, did tons of fishing and swimming. There is a little sandy beach which my kids loved to play. The water around the dock is shallow and clear sandy bottom, great for wading and splashing around. My boys caught baby snapping turtles (we saw 3!) and a baby snake too. Our last night we had a fire and smores. It was nice to have access to the canoe and kayaks and the washer and dryer were good to have too because the kids got really dirty playing outside. There is also a hammock by the lake which was a nice touch. Penny was a great host, helpful and easy to get a hold of. The only thing I would suggest is if you bring a toddler who is not great with stairs yet, you might want to bring a baby gate along, out 18 month old loved the stairs going up stairs and just had to watch her really close since we couldn't really keep her off of them. We really hope to return someday, we had a great time!
I am so glad you had a great time and I was glad to have stopped by just in time to see the baby snapping turtles. I Will get a baby gate for the cabin great idea. I hope you will make it your lake home again sometime. Penny
Very comfortable cabin on the lake north of Detroit Lakes
We enjoyed spending a fall weekend at the cabin. Comfortable furniture , pretty views of the lake. Steps away from the water...Just a very cozy feeling that made us feel at home right away. The cabin is in a woodsy location maybe 25 minutes north of Detroit Lakes.
I am so glad you enjoyed your lake time at my cabin up North!! Penny
Great find! Beautiful and relaxing!
Very quiet, relaxed atmosphere on Big Sugarbush Lake. This cabin was perfect for our family. Penny was easy to work with and very accommodating. This was our first vacation with our dog, and she loved it! Our kids enjoyed boating (we rented the pontoon at the property), kayaking, and exploring Northern Minnesota. We appreciated having the beautiful lake nearly all to ourselves, and we loved seeing eagles, loons, and otters around the lake. Fun vacation!
I am so glad that you enjoyed the cabin. It was fun to see little Ruby running around free and to see you all enjoy the lake toys.
enjoy the rest of your summer and come back sometime! Penny
Beautiful Cabin In The Woods!
Penny was a gracious host! Her remote cabin in the wood was just as pictured. Our Garmin was a little confused as to where it was but we did find it. It was about a mile from where the Garmin stopped us.
We did see various woodland creatures during our stay and the fishing was good. Most days we had the lake to ourselves. We had boat problems and Penny was very helpful with a battery charger and extension cord for us to use.
What would have been helpfully was detailed directions for the use of the TV. Hubby figured it out.(We just aren't techie people)
If staying at Penny's cabin make time to visit the Richwood Winery which she also owns. Beautiful view of the vineyard with a backdrop of the water.
Excellent cabin- private, great location near Detroit Lakes & Park Rapids, all the amenities
Penny was a perfect host and great communicator. The log cabin was beautiful with nice decor - updated while still having that up north cabin feel. Quiet and private - nice dock, fire pit, and pontoon. Great kitchen and family room with all of the electronics you want. Perfect rental!
Kelly---So glad you had a good time, come back again!! Thanks so much for the review! Penny
Nice, quiet location for vacation!
We stayed at this cabin for a week. It was just as explained in the description and the pictures. The cabin was well stocked with towels, chairs, and kitchen utensils. The cable wasn't working, but that didn't matter to us as we weren't there to watch TV. The lake was beautiful! Very quiet and peaceful. The sandy beach was perfect for our kids. We enjoyed using the kayaks in the evenings. We had some maintenance issues with the cabin that needed to be addressed during our stay, however Penny and her cousin were helpful and accommodating in getting these issues fixed in a timely manner. Visiting the winery nearby is a must!
Tamarac Wildlife Refuge, lake activities, Shooting Star Casino only 25 minute drive, Richwood Winery only 7.5 minutes away with music on the weekends.
