The Toucan House is a lovely place to.......swing in a hammock.....eat a freshly picked mango.........enjoy the night sky like you've never seen it before.....set out on a hiking expedition to sight exotic birds, orchids and wildlife......head out down to the water to canoe or take a pontoon boat tour to one of the 3 glorious waterfalls close to us. Swim in the waterfalls for a sensational experience. Dine on our palapa-covered deck and be entertained by the howler monkeys !
We enjoyed our stay very much; both Jorge and Daisy were great!! The food was outstanding. Daisy made some chef worthy vegetarian dishes that I wanted the recipe for to take back (even my husband loved them and he's not a vegetarian). It was really cool to hear the Howler monkeys and toucans from the lodge. Many thanks for recommending RObert with Jungle Splash Eco Tours as our many side trips were great too. The pontoon trip on the river near the lodge was really relaxing with several beautiful waterfalls. All the tour guides were top notched. All in all a wonderful vacation. Highly recommend to anyone wanting something off the beaten path.
We had a great time at the Toucan house! Jorge and his wife are so nice and were happy to tell us about the area and culture. It's quite a hike down to the river, but there's a waterfall right across from the kayaks that you can paddle over and hike in to. There's a rope swing over there too. Didn't see any toucans while we were there, but we heard the howler monkeys. The rooms are clean and cozy. It's far from town(~20 min drive) but we enjoyed being away from everyone!
If your looking for a quiet beautiful seclusive stay the Toucan house it a great choice! They had Kayaks to use quite the walk up and down to the river but if your active well worth it. We kayaked the river one full days and visited three different waterfalls being the only people present! Thanks to the caretaker giving us a map of directions around the eco village. Lots of lovely short hiking trails on the property and many stunning eco homes. We stayed in the lower suite it was small and very basic but you will spend most of your time outside anyways as we did on the hammock watching for birds and listening the howler monkeys. The bathroom facilities were great considering it was a eco home. There were caretakers living in the home above which were very friendly but a little poor at English speaking. The great thing about this place is considering its 40 min from the nearest town they offer a meal plan, the food was great some days over others eggs for dinner was questionable. But If your active and looking for a full seclusive jungle experience this is the place! Wildlife we spotted around the property: Butterflies, howler monkeys, toucans, lizards, a gibnut, coatamundi, spiders and lots of birds.
Loved our stay here. The hosts were friendly and eager to please us. We had great meals all three days, including the night we arrived. Canoes and kayaks are available for free and the river is dammed so easy to explore. It was also completely empty when we were on it which was quite nice.
The staff helped us coordinate everything before arriving, including referrals to car rentals and local tour companies. There are some self guided tours within an hour as well that were worth our time. While a SUV is a must to get there, having it was an added bonus, helping us make adjustments to our plans as we discovered things along the way.
I highly recommend this host and house and appreciate what they did to help us have a great vacation.
Wow. We loved our stay at the Toucan House. We were warmly welcomed by our hosts who prepared delicious meals and toured us around the whole site. Clean, comfortable rooms. With amazing views, eerie Howler monkey songs and other wildlife sightings, it was a great experience!
My girlfriend and I booked a 4 night stay at Toucan House primarily to bird watch. We were not disappointed. Every bird we saw was incredibly beautiful. Our stay at the Toucan House was excellent. The meals were awesome prepared by Daisy and Welma. All food was fresh and much of the fruits and vegetables were grown on site. Jorge is the manager and was an excellent host. He new all about the area and all the native flora and fauna. The room we stayed in was clean and very comfortable. The Eco Village is located in the mountains in primarily broad leaf forest. We saw and heard Howler Monkeys daily, spectacular scenery and very few people. As stated before the birds were exceptional. Keel billed and collared aracari toucans, Black headed trogans, tanagers of all colors were seen from our balcony dining table.
