Susan Baum purchased this house in 2000
This is a super area to be in summer, winter, spring or fall. There is always tons to do and the beauty surrounding the house is beyond description. At the end of our road you will find NY State forest land with great hiking trails!
The large window of the home let in natural light no matter what the season. Seriously, you are going to love it!
Beautiful home right on the lake, quick driving distances to Cooperstown, as well as both Dreams Park and All Star Village and wonderful owners. What more could you ask for??? We stayed for two consecutive weeks as we had one son playing baseball at Dreams Park and another son playing baseball at All Star Village. We would have loved to stay another week to relax! The first week we were there, we had a bad heat wave with temperatures ranging over 95% and 100% humidity. The house does not have central air although there are many ceiling fans that typically do the job along with the breeze from the lake. Although that first week could have been unbearable with the heat, Susan, the owner, did everything she could possibly do to make our stay more comfortable. She ordered an air conditioner for the master bedroom as well as additional rotating fans. She had them ordered and paid for and would have had someone pick them up and install them, however, we chose to do that ourselves. She really went out of her way to make us happy! We will likely be back in Cooperstown in a year or two for our younger son and we plan on staying here again. Truly 5 star home and service. Thank you Susan!
Our son stayed at Cooperstown Dream Park and this was the perfect house to still entertain our two daughters while we waited for our son to play games. The house was beautiful, and the view of the lake was gorgeous!! We had a blast swimming, kayaking, and canoeing. Thank you!
If I could give 4 1/2 stars, I would. Just got back from Cooperstown where our son played at All Star Village. My wife, 2 teenage boys and I stayed here. This is was perfect for a family or group of 5 with plenty of open space, beautiful view, wildlife and decent fishing (we caught smallmouth and rock bass). The beds were comfortable and the master bath was really nice. The bedding in the master bedroom needs to be updated as the fitted sheet did not fit the mattress properly and the comforter had some rips in it. The tv was small and tucked in the corner but who wants to watch tv when you have such a great view. The canoes were great and we did not use the kayak. The wifi worked well (it's a must for teens!). Susan is an awesome owner and emailed us to see how everything was going and if we needed anything. When booking properties in/near Cooperstown, you have to beware of lake properties that you can't read reviews on. We had 2 families on our team that were not happy with property owners and felt like there were constantly being stalked and watched. In one case the owner was staying in a room above the garage. Susan was hands off and terrific!! I highly recommend staying here.
Our family had an amazing week. The house was a perfect location for swimming and enjoying the beautiful lake views. We were just a short drive to All Star Village where our son was playing baseball. It was nice to come back to the house for a quick swim between games! The house was clean, spacious and had everything we needed for our stay.
The cabin had a nice view. Unfortunately, that is where the positives stop.
Upon our arrival, we had a very difficult time with the lock box. The box is in the back of the house with no working lights. The numbers that you push to get your key are very difficult. After a conversation with the cleaning lady, she said she has told them about the lock box problems and the need to repair it. The owners have ignored her request. She even got her own key made so she would not have to deal with the lock box.
After driving for over 20 hours and unpacking our belongings, we came to realize there was NO toilet paper in the whole entire house. We attempted to call the "local" manager Clint. He was confused by our call and he didn't even realize he was listed as the local manager. When we told him of the problem, he laughed and said that he was located 1.5 hours away. I'm not sure what "local" means to the home owners, but 1.5 hours away is not local. I would not anticipate receiving any local help while staying here. We then sent a text to the homeowners asking about the toilet paper. The response was "there may be some in a closet, not sure, we don't inherently provide these items"...Really? We then called the owners and he laughed and said, "we don't run a hotel, just go buy some" and laughed. No apology or resolution to our problem.
There were approximately 12 bulbs out/ non working in the house. These include outdoors and in. The cleaning lady came our second day with light bulbs and made comments about the state of the house and tried to apologize for the lack of response from the owners. She agreed that the toilet paper and lights were totally unacceptable. She then went on to tell us of more issues with the absentee owners. She told us of a situation with a dead rodent as well.
We were then met by numerous carpenter ants throughout the house. The home owner obviously knows about these critters as there were multiple ant killer baits throughout the house. They're not working. I have taken numerous pictures of the ants.
The downstairs bath does not drain either. If you like showering and standing in ankle high water, then go ahead, I personally think that is a little gross. We did not contact the owners after the initial contact because of their lack of concern and hospitality. In the Midwest, we take a little more pride in our hospitality, care and respect for others.
Without a doubt, the best kept secret in Cooperstown! I can't say enough about this lake house. The scenery, sunrise, kayaking, fishing, swimming, quality of the house etc. is unmatched. It is truly an amazing property. Very easy access to Dreams Park (20 mins), shopping and restaurants. The amenities available are too numerous to mention. The owner provides EVERYTHING a family would need; literally a home away from home. My wife and I referred to the property as our "happy place." After long days at Dreams Park, the solitude and peacefulness of the lake and surrounding views provided the needed wind down. There are absolutely no cons. I highly recommend the lake house. The owner responds quickly to questions. She is very easy to work with.
