At 9,200 feet elevation, you will enjoy the clean Colorado air and be amazed by the dazzling star show every night! We would like to share our new (to us) home in the Spanish Peaks area. This is a custom-built log home with all the amenities.
The home is available from May 1 to November 1. We are in the high mountain valley south of Cuchara. Sunrise in the morning over the Spanish Peaks, sunset in the evening over San Isabel National Forest. Wildlife roam the mountains. You may see deer, elk, big horn sheep, black bear – all sorts of mountain wildlife.
Our home is four bedroom, three bath, on three levels. The loft level is the double bed with ensuite bathroom. The main level is the open living room with fireplace and fully equipped kitchen and the master bedroom with queen-sized bed and ensuite bathroom. A private deck off the master bedroom is perfect for morning coffee or an evening aperitif! The lower level is two bedrooms, sharing one bath, with private exit to the deck. We replaced the carpeting with wood flooring and the warmth of the main room is special.
Cuchara boasts two restaurants, The Timbers and the Dog Bar and Grill (where people actually do take their dogs). La Veta, only about 8 miles north, has lovely shops and restaurants. Don’t miss Alys’s Restaurant – best around for miles! The Next Door Deli, The Ryus Bakery, and the Paradise Bakery are all musts for breakfast or lunch.
A drive south on Highway 12 (Highway of Legends) on the way to Trinidad provides unbelievable scenery. The Sand Dunes Monument is about an hour away. Taos is a couple of hours away.
We discovered this area several years ago and fell in love with it. We bought a condo two years ago. Now we have purchased this house in addition so we have room for family visits.
We aren’t totally retired, so we can’t be there full time yet. So, we would like to share it with special people who will enjoy it as much as we do.

Sitting on the deck, sipping a glass or cuppa, sighting wildlife. Our property abuts the San Isabel National Park, so it is beautiful and peaceful!
Although we couldn't stay the entire time we loved the cabin and will try to stay again sometime...
Loved the furniture, the dishes, the set up - Enjoyed our stay very much. Spent most of the daylight hours outside either on the deck or in the area.
Particularly enjoyed the hummers.
Only problem - although it is suppose to be natural - is at the bottom of all the steps and I guess around the base of the cabin would have been nice to not have to wade through knee high vegetation.

What a wonderful way to experience the beautiful Colorado mountains! We absolutely loved the cabin and it made my son's Senior vacation trip extra special! With a family of 5, we loved having individual rooms for each of our kids but the spacious living areas and deck also helped us all relax as a family! The cabin is built out of logs and gives you the full mountain escape experience. The cabin is in a beautiful setting among the trees and is very peaceful. Coffee on the deck each morning was the perfect way to start your day! We hiked, explored, fished (alot!) and shopped during the day, and couldn't wait to get back to the cabin to cook, play board games, and watch movies! Thanks again for making our family vacation such a wonderful experience! We love Cuchara and will definitely recommend Rocky Mountain High to our friends!
What a great property! The country log cabin feel is just one of the things that make this place special. Lots of room and parking, including the very large one car garage allowed us to keep a car protected from weather along with fishing equipment, bikes, etc. The cabin is well kept and very clean. The kitchen and master bath are very nice as well as all the furniture throughout the cabin. He kitchen is well-stocked with lots of needs for cooking, including small appliances. The Kuerig is the kicker!! I'm sure anyone would enjoy a stay here as much as we did!
Oh, and I should not fail to mention how nice Barbara is. She is really a pleasure to work with!
We have just returned from a wonderful family five-day vacation with our home base at Rocky Mountain High. This vacation home is beautiful and is a perfect reflection of the nature in which it is located. The house is beautifully furnished and has a layout that lends itself to a feeling of relaxation and welcome. The kitchen is very well-equipped with everything needed for preparing and enjoying those meals we made there. The home comfortably accommodated our family of 10. Homeowner Barbara was so easy to work with and was accessible at all times to answer any questions we had. She is a pleasure to work with.
Our favorite aspect of this vacation home is its location right in the midst of beautiful Colorado high-country, surrounded by both pine and aspen trees and a profusion of wildflowers in July. All we had to do was walk to the end of the drive of the house to go in either direction for a beautiful walk as we enjoyed trees, wildflowers, birds, deer, and more. Also within walking distance is the Beaver Creek Trail for a great mountain hike.
The home is very near the vacation village of Cuchara, a delight in itself. Also nearby is horseback trail riding through meadows, forest, and stream. We also took advantage of being close enough to the Great Sand Dunes National Park to go there for the day. There are art festivals, music festivals and much more in the summer, too, depending on when one visits.
This home and its owner gave us the perfect base for a wonderful, memorable vacation. Thank you, Barbara.
