About the property

This lovely "indiana" villa (elegant villas built in the 19th century by locals who made a fortune in the Americas) consists of 2 independent houses that can be connected on the ground floor and on the first floor.

The Casona is the largest of the two. On its ground floor, it has an entrance hall, a large living room, a large dining room that can seat 16, a fully equipped kitchen and a small bathroom with a shower. On the first floor are 2 triple bedrooms, 2 double bedrooms, a gallery-sitting area with large windows, and 2 full bathrooms with shower cells, and one also with a bath tub. In the attic there is a small bedroom with 2 single beds.

The Torre, which is independent but can be connected to the Casona, has a living room with a fireplace and a small dining table, and a fully equipped kitchen on its ground floor. On the first floor is an ample hallway with an access to the porch over the pear garden, which has lovely views over the surrounding countryside and the sea. On this floor there is also a double bedroom and a full bathroom with a shower. On the second floor of the tower is a lovely bedroom with windows that offer a beautiful view of the hamlet, of the Picos de Europa and of the sea. To access this bedroom, one passes through another bedroom with 2 single beds. There is also a small bathroom with a shower on this floor.

The Casona and the Torre share the gardens that surround the house and are walled off, with comfortable garden furniture. Guests who only rent the Casona have exclusive access to the largest of the gardens, the pear garden.

About Viveca

This house belongs to my friend Maite, who had fallen in love with it passing by it regularly, and ended up buying it and restauring it with loving attention more than 10 years ago. She lives in Madrid, but loves spending long periods at her beloved house, enjoying the peace and quiet and sometimes also enjoying the company of her grandchildren. As I know the house well, have had excellent experiences renting out our own country house in the Sierra de Gredos, and can attend our guests in several languages, she has asked me to give her a hand with the holiday rentals of her country home. I am of Dutch-Argentine-American-German origin, and have lived in Madrid since 1990.

What makes this chateau / country house unique

Very spacious and comfortable house, in one of the areas best locations. At a 10 minute walk from the beach, with a simple restaurant only a fews steps away, the charming towns of Colunga and Lastres nearby by car for all the shopping, and with speactacular views of the first elevations of the Picos de Europa mountain range which so dramatically fall into the coastline here.

Estuvimos 13 amigos en el puente de mayo y la casa nos encantó a todos. Es una pasada! Casa antigua colonial, suelo de madera, objetos antiguos, baños con muy buen gusto. Y la zona es preciosa también :) volveremos sin duda! En la cas además había de todo, toallas, todo tipo de electrodomésticos, etc

Antigua y cómoda a la vez

Pasar una estancia en esta casa Indiana ha sido toda una experiencia. Conserva gran parte de la estructura original y los que se ha reformado se ha hecho unificando respeto por la época de construcción, diseño y comodidad. Muy buena ubicación en cuanto a playas, vistas y restauración. Los únicos inconvenientes que hemos encontrado han sido la cercanía de una carretera y el fallo del agua caliente en algunos de los baños

The villa is situated in the quiet upper part of the village of Caravia Baja, next to the Santiago church. It is only 1 km. to the beach from here, and one can even walk there over a pretty path. Close to the house, on the other side of the N-632, is a decent restaurant. The nearest town offering a good selection of shops and restaurants is Colunga, at 6 km. from the villa.

The foot of the Picos de Europa is near the house as well, as can be observed from the Mirador del Fitu outlook at 6 km distance. There are excellent mountain hikes that start at around 8 km from the villa.

The Sella river is famous amongst rafters. In Arriondas, at 15 km., one can rent kayaks or join rafting adventures.
