About Jules Maury

I grew up all around the world but always wanted a home in France. This is my second house in Fayence the first I bought in 1996 and sold to move here so I could have olive grove and a wonderful view. I work in luxury travel in London and therefore understand how important holidays are so have tried to make the house, which is used by family and friends when we are there, a home rather than just another holiday rental.

Jules Maury purchased this house in 2003

Why Jules Maury chose Fayence

The property is unique. Old golden stone, stunning views in all directions over olive groves and The Plain of Fayence. The Southerly aspect has sun though out the day until about 8 o'clock when the sun drops below the hills, bathing the house in the most beautiful light and offering some fantastic sunsets. 5 minutes from both Fayence and Seillans and yet set high on our hillside means that the peace and tranquility is incredible.

What makes this house unique

This house is special as it really does have the most wonderful views, peace and quiet but is close to anything and everything.

Fabulous location

  • 3 of 5

The house is set in a wonderful quiet location with beautiful views. The bedrooms and bathrooms were all clean and well equipped. The house is south facing and gets very hot during the afternoon and we had to use all the available fans to cool the main living areas. The kitchen would benefit from updated equipment (as some of the appliances did not work so well) and more food storage and preparation space. There was wifi but it was only available in one particular outside area which was inconvenient especially at night. The pool was lovely and enjoyed by the whole family and there was UK TV which was a bonus.

Owner's Response: Thank you for your feedback which is essential to improving things each year for our guests. It was a particularly hot week and we do stress that if one keeps shutters closed during the day it helps keep the stone house cool. The main shutter on the south facing window must be kept 'pulled to' a la Provencal - which is easy to forget and that makes all the difference to the main living area. More fans now available. We have replaced the wifi connector this week as it seems the old router was playing up - the new wifi ordered and installed this week should improve things but with an old stone house and the wifi in France one has to be patient as streaming films and music can be patchy! New beds have been purchased this week which have been a huge success with guests and any appliance under review checked and better instructions left for the gas hob button which if not pushed in the correct way can seem to turn off which is annoying. Sadly a function of the design rather than broken. New kitchen mugs, china all added plus some electrical cooking aids and new parasol and umbrellas. We try! Thank you.

We will be back!

  • 5 of 5

We spent a week in this pretty property at the beginning of April. What a gorgeous peaceful house it is, full of delightful French character nestling in its olive grove, with the most stunning far reaching views. The house is spotless and very well equipped with everything you could possibly want and more. Jules the Owner could not have been more helpful. All in all we had the most lovely relaxing week, and will definitely be returning next year.

Paradise in Provence

  • 5 of 5

Wonderful accommodation high in the hills just outside Fayence with stunning views. The house is very well equipped with charming Provencal decor and lovely outdoor spaces for eating and relaxing all designed and maintained to a very high standard. Lots of great restaurants and plenty to do in this lovely part of Provence and a reasonable drive to the coast. Definitely one to recommend!

Deep in the heart of the Var region, Fayence is a beautiful Saracen hilltop village far from the madding crowds of the Cote d'Azur and only 45 minutes from Nice airport. Your holiday can be as relaxed or as active as you like. Regional attractions include:

Fayence is one of four medieval hilltop villages, others being Seillans, Callian and Montouroux. Each village has its own distinct identity from the bustle of Fayence market on Tuesday, Thursday and Saturday mornings to the award winning beauty of Seillans with its square surrounded by little bistros. With a Farmer's Market and three supermarkets all of which stock fresh local produce including fish delivered daily from the coast, two excellent wine merchants and very good local Rosé direct from three local vineyards, five bakers and fourteen local restaurants you are really spolit for choice in Fayence.

Experience an hours gliding from Fayence Gliding Club - or just watch the gliders silently twirl above Seillans while you laze by the villa pool. You can also have a good meal at the club

Lac St. Cassien - stunning lake with water sports only 15 minutes drive away. Eat at one of the many restaurants around the lake with panoramic views after a refreshing swim or sail.

Local Restaurants - these are many and varied from basic French cooking in the local cafés to gourmet fayre at the nearby Castelleras which is just the other side of the lake.

Gorge du Verdon only 90 minutes away for a full day's family fun - spectacular area for walking, touring, white water rafting, canoeing, kayaking.

Cannes – promenade along the glamorous 'Croisette' waterfront.

Antibes – see the luxury yachts in Port Vauban and visit the charming ancient quarter.

St. Tropez – an hour's drive to see the quaint harbour filled with the grandest of yachts, and surrounded by chic boutiques, fabulous beaches and stunning nightlife.

La Napoule - attractive private and public beaches - 20minutes.

Monaco - grand hotels and casino, port, palace, old quarter, museum and beautiful gardens - 75mins drive.

Grasse - the world's perfume capitol with three great perfumeries, each with guided tours.

Biot - famous for its glass blowing. There are also very good restaurants worth visiting.

Italy - visit the famous market at Ventimiglia and pick up a "designer" bargain or two, about 90 minutes drive.

There are a wide range of watersports available 15kms away at the Lac de St. Cassien, available tennis courts and a gym in the village, riding, various famous walks described in detail in the walking guide to Fayence and the area, and WORLD FAMOUS GOLF at the Domaine de Terre Blanche Four Seasons Hotel.

The largest gliding school in Europe is down the road offering flights and tuition. There are numerous golf courses locally which are listed at the house in a golf manual along with Michelin guides, a guidebook of the region and activities available.
