This cottage in Lower Slaughter was awesome and close enough to the little towns in the Cotswolds that we used it as our base to see the rest of the Cotswolds. It was quiet and quaint and has a beautiful back porch that opens into your dining area. The couch that is in the pictures is different than the one in the cottage and the current one in the cottage is small and not comfortable at all. It was nice at the end of the day of sight seeing to come home to this cozy place. I love the strawberries growing near the front door.

We had a very enjoyable stay and the setting was lovely.

  • 4 of 5

we very much enjoyed our stay and the secluded walled garden was perfect for the dog and to sit out in for a drink or even breakfast. The cottage itself was very well appointed and had everything supplied that we needed and the cake on arrival was a welcome and surprise touch thank you. It was also very nice that we were allowed to explore it on our own as so many owners seem to think they need to spend ages showing you round when all you want to do is unpack and have a cuppa. the village was lovely and we made the most of the local places to see. As you are asking for constructive comments I would say the following. A most disappointing feature was that despite all 3 bedrooms easily being able to take a minimum of a kingsize bed they were only doubles. In this day and age i would certainly have expected a bigger bed than a double as nearly everyone has a kingsize at home. Kate and i are both slim and average height but after one night in a double which was far too small for us i had to go in another room for the final 3 nights which wasnt what we expected or hoped for on a holiday of that quality and expense away together. I would also suggest a few changes to the bathroom on the top floor. when using the shower even on low pressure the water flows out of the shower and along the floor as far as the loo. The first morning I had a shower and the water flowed across the floor and saturated the clothers I had laid out on the floor so i had to get another set for the day and dry them out. I had to use a towel every morning to dry the floor which was literaly sopping wet . The issue isnt the angle of the shower head but that the floor isnt level. I think this problem could be easily solved by fixing on the floor a raised plastic strip or thin line of tiles in front of the shower by end of the shower side to create a mini dam. it would also be very useful to have a shelf or 2 in the bathroom by the basin to put razors tooth brush and toiletries etc. The bath itself looks big but in reality is tiny as its so sloped on the ends. even 5 foot 6 kate could only use it by sitting in it with legs tucked up rather than being able to lie out straight and rinse her hair in it. one very minor pt was the catch on the gate in the front isnt complete so its not possible to totally shut gate to make it dog proof . Our dog wasnt a problem as she stayed by our sides but a bolder bigger dog could easily have pushed out. overall it was a very nice stay Alex.

Great location, lovely village without all the explosion of tourists other Cotswold Villages have. Some lovely walks direct from the property, nice pub in village. We stayed the May Bank Holiday weather was amazing, sat in the walled garden for dinner each night

Charming village, charming house.

  • 4 of 5

Lower Slaughter is a picture-perfect home base for your time in the Cotswolds. Charming village with a very quaint feel. Loads of great walks literally right on your doorstep. House was superbly located right on the village green. An issue with housekeeping was never resolved (foot prints on a sticky wooden floor we'd never walked on) but a bit of vacuuming and cleaning of my own and we overcame this issue. Bathrooms are of a great size for such a period home and the kitchen was well-equipped. Washer/dryer is tiny so be prepared to do a few loads. And all of Alex's recommendations for eating were spot-on....great food to be had in the area.
