Overview

About the property

3 bedrooms. Large garden. Close to Norfolk Broads and the sea.

Inside

Apple Tree Cottage is a recently refurbished family cottage, built in 1912, in a quiet residential area. It has 1 double, 1 twin and 1 single bedroom. The bathroom has a new suite comprising toilet, bath with shower over and basin. Downstairs there is a comfortable lounge, equipped with Freeview TV including Netflix (account needed), BBC iplayer etc and DVD player. The dining room has a table and chairs to seat 5 and we have a newly fitted and fully equipped kitchen, with oven, hob, dishwasher, fridge (with small freezer compartment) and microwave. Through the kitchen, there is a utility area with a washing machine. A rotary drier is available for use in the garden.

Stair gate, high chair, travel cot and baby bath available on request at time of booking. Linen, towels provided.

Outside

Tucked-away down a private loke, Apple Tree Cottage is away from any roads and so is ideal for families with children. There is a large, newly created garden to the front, side and rear of the house, with space to play and a south-facing patio equipped with garden chairs and table. As well as attractive flower borders, the garden contains a herb garden and raised soft fruit bed. We grow raspberries, blackcurrants, red and white currants and rhubarb. There are also 3 varieties of apple tree in the front garden. Guests are always welcome to help themselves to fruit when it is in season. There is off-road parking for 2 cars.

Surrounding area

Local area:

Acle is a friendly small market village with a population of 2750. Being just 9 miles from the sea, 12 miles from the beautiful, historic city of Norwich, and as the gateway to the Norfolk Broads, Acle is ideally situated for your holiday.

There are many activities, local to Acle, available to choose from. You can hire boats at Acle Bridge, where there is also a friendly pub by the river side. Acle itself has a thriving tennis club, usable by non-members, and during the summer months cricket matches are played on the attractive recreation field. There is also a skate park and play area for children here. There are some beautiful marked walks from the village, including a circular walk along the River Bure to nearby Upton and back across the fields to Acle.

Acle has many amenities, making it a convenient place to stay for families. There is a range of shops, all within walking distance, including a small supermarket, butcher, newsagent, post office, hairdresser, florist and a high street bank. For those moments when you decide not to cook, we have a Spanish restaurant at Acle Bridge and various take-aways including Indian, Italian and Chinese as well as a fish and chip shop and café. The King's Head is a 3 minute walk away (the pub is not serving food at present April 2017).

There are hourly train and bus services to Norwich (20 mins journey time) and Great Yarmouth (10 mins journey time).

The region:

Norfolk is famous for its big skies and open spaces where you can enjoy miles of unspoilt coastline and beautiful countryside. It is a great location for walking and cycling, as well as sailing the Norfolk Broads. There are many nature reserves, much enjoyed by birdwatchers, as well as fantastic visitor attractions including historic houses, museums, parks and gardens.

At Great Yarmouth there are traditional seaside attractions including a family funfair along the bustling Golden Mile. Quieter beaches can be found to the north of Yarmouth, at places such as Winterton-on-Sea and Sea Palling. Here, you can enjoy peaceful walks along the sandy beaches where seals can be seen along the coast and sometimes even basking on the sand!

Norwich has a flourishing arts, music and cultural scene, superb independent as well as High Street shopping, lively restaurants and bars. A vibrant market, known for its' rainbow-coloured roofs, is open six days a week. There are several cinemas, theatres and music venues to choose from, offering a wide variety of entertainment. There are many beautiful buildings in Norwich, such as the medieval cathedral. One of the city's most famous landmarks is its' castle, built by the Normans 900 years ago, which is now a museum and art gallery.

Other local attractions include Fairhaven Woodland and Water Gardens (3 miles from Acle), RSPB Strumpshaw Fen (6 miles), Thrigby Wildlife Gardens (5 miles).

Cosy but plenty of room!

  • 5 of 5

Lovely cottage feel but plenty of space. Happy with heating, bathroom and kitchen facilities. A bigger frying pan would be useful! The stairs are quite steep and the step down into bathroom took a bit of getting used to but my elderly mother coped with care. Would recommend to anyone wanting to visit this area!

Very Enjoyable

  • 5 of 5

Simon and Alison were very welcoming. We came during Christmas, our first time away from home for the Holidays. Coming into the house we were welcomed with a Christmas Tree and a gift which my children and I absolutely loved!

The house was very clean and adorable. It's in a cute little town and walking distance to a pub etc.

The one thing I could see being improved was the upstairs bathroom water heating. When running a bath the water would not really get hot, just Luke warm.

Overall loved staying there and would ask to stay again next time :)

Thank you Simon and Alison!

Lovely, super clean, well situated cottage with a beautiful garden.

  • 5 of 5

We had a lovely stay in a lovely cottage. The hosts are very nice people, very hospitable, we felt very welcome. The cottage is well-located between Norwich and Great Yarmouth and there is a trainstation. Also the cottage is well-equiped and has a lovely garden. The Broads around are great. Highly recommanded!
