If your pet is not “animal friendly” then please keep your pet on a lead while on the grounds of Les Rosiers, have lots of great walks all around us. Les Rosiers is in the centre of a hamlet “Les Bories”, there is a working walnut farm, small cattle farm and 12 other homes. From our hamlet it is a 2mins walk to the Vezere river, which in season is great for canoeing/swimming, canoe rentals close by. We do not have any shops or restaurants in the hamlet. When you stay in the studio or apartment you can visit our delightful riverside market town of Montignac 4K away for all your needs. In Montignac is our world famous Lascaux IV prehistoric Art centre, you will also find restaurants, cafes, Wed-Sat morning market, artisan shops/butcher/bakers+Intermarche /LeaderPrice / Spar. When in our hamlet you can cross the road to our neighbours farm to buy walnut oil/l'huille de noix, in August / Sept watch him make the oil. Walks around our hamlet are beautiful, pass the Majestic chateau de Losse, which hangs on the banks of the Vezere river, opposite our hamlet or through the woodlands, fields, adventure walks abound. All delights of our rich in history and fertile land are within a 5 to 30 minute drive in any direction. As a tip - if you are a tourist in France we strongly suggest that you too take lunch - or a break between 12-14h00 as all shops/Drs/commerce/industry - except restaurants and large supermarkets will be closed during that time. Especially in the country side, everything stops for lunch, alors "when in Rome" :-), very civilised and lunch is our favourite atmosphere.

Listed as a UNESCO World Heritage site, the Vézère Valley will enchant you with its varied landscapes and its heritage. The Lascaux Dordogne-Vallée de la Vézère Tourist Bureau is there to inform you, don’t hesitate to contact them! 20 minutes from Lascaux, come visit Sarlat. Listed as Ville d’Art et d’Histoire, this city is famous for the sheer number of historical monuments it contains.
The charming market town of Montignac sur Vezere is 4K away from Les Rosiers, see here . Montignac market is Wednesday and Saturday mornings around the church, all local producers, a chance to sample the fine foods and wines of Perigord Truffles, duck, foie gras, Bergerac wine/Pecharment.
Montignac already famous for the prehistoric Lascaux II caves and now for the magnificent Lascaux IV prehistory art centre, see here at with its state of the art technology, just a 5 minute drive to the north of us-4K. Prepare yourself for the Lascaux experience, opened on 15th December 2016 by Francois Hollande, many clients go back a second day as there is so much to see. It is an immersion in the incredible history of Humanity. The full facsimile of the Lascaux caves promises you a comprehensive prehistoric art experience. Travel back in time for a few hours through a variety of modern spaces equipped with the latest digital technology (augmented reality, 3D screens etc).
The magical chateau de Commarque a personal favourite, 20 min drive away. (600 metre walk to the site from parking, you need walking shoes)
The pre-historic troglodyte fortress of La Roque Saint-Christophe
is a ten minute drive to the South, next to the beautiful village of Saint Leon sur Vezere.
A Continue in D704 after Roque Saint Christophe is the wonderful and very interesting Maison de forte Reignac, both open to visitors all year round. forte et ville troglodyte.
Chateau de Losse, directly across the river from our hamlet is open to the public from May -sept, 5 min drive.
You will be spoilt for choice for things to do and places to visit. The medieval towns of Sarlat; Les Eyzies, home to the National Museum of Pre-History; and several of the Plus Beaux Villages de France including St Leon sur Vézère, Beynac, Castelnaud, and Domme, are within a 30k radius of the house.
Other wonderful attractions in the immediate area include pre-historic parks and caves; chateaux and gardens; and magnificent castles dating back to the Hundred Years War.
The many and varied activities on the doorstep include canoeing, horse-riding, walking, cycling and paragliding.
July /August are Marche Gourmands/Night markets, with food, music, wine, dancing & are held in all the villages around us. Personal favourites marche gourmands are Valojoulx on a Friday night, 2k away, Saint Leon, Thursday nights (dancing here) 6k and Saint Amand du Coly Tuesday nights. We have a fabulous annual music festival in Montignac June 21st and the international music festival in Montignac for a week in July.
The little village of Thonac with its well stocked shop, restaurant and bar, is 3k away and has an excellent Auberge/Archambeau, plus Pizza restaurant.
Montignac has an east and a west side, as the Vezere river runs through it.
For fitness enthusiasts we also have in Montignac a fabulous new Salle de Sport/ fitness centre. Top class and very reasonable see here at they offer an array of classes as well as state of the art equipment. Only a 4K drive from Les Rosiers.

Auberge du Peyrol/chez Jenine 0553507291 in Sergeac 4 mins drive. Reservation needed.(beautiful setting - close by Les Rosiers- fabulous garden ambiance, also a wonderful way to spend Christmas Day, with locals /open fire. Jenine (chef and owner) is well known in the region.
Auberge de la Poste 0553507308 really yummy cuisine and location, (try the duck Parmentier ) in the beautiful village Leon sur Vezere 10 mins drive. Reservation needed. Take a walk down by the river/church, small but a treat to stroll around after or before lunch, dinner.
Le petit Leon, open only in July August, in Saint Leon sur Vezere, 10 mins drive. Excellent cuisine, outside seating only, reservation suggested.
