Rob & Val - OceanDriveVR9 purchased this condo in 2005
This place is really cool, right in the middle of the action on Ocean Drive. We were there for the Art Deco Weekend, and the large patio overlooking the street was a great place to people watch. I highly recommend the patio - you are right across from the park & the beach. If you sit there, you still have a modicum of privacy, because you are partially shielded by the railing. So it's perfect.
No need to worry about security, the entrance required a code entered into a keypad to gain access to the building. So random people from the street could not stumble in unless they belonged there. A few have mentioned that they did not like the noise. We found that closing the doors to the bedroom dampened much of it out. You can still feel the bass notes though - but you are in Miami Beach - go with it!
The condo is spacious for two. You could have a couple more stay also, but they'd be sleeping on a fold down couch. The couches were, BTW, quite comfortable so this would not be a problem.
Sun streams in through the front windows in the morning, which is great for those, like us, looking to escape a dreary wintertime cold. But the air conditioning works well to keep you cool at night.
It is nice to be a part of old Miami history staying here, in one of the icons of Art Deco architecture. However, the inside is modern and fun. I highly recommend this place.
We stayed here for a week around Halloween. The suite is exactly as described. It is on the (first European/second US) floor above the restaurant of the hotel which means it's very loud especially after the diners left and the party people arrive after 10:00 pm. But, hey, you booked a place on Ocean Drive!
The pool of the hotel is nice, but sometimes the music is too loud (I guess they call it "Dayclub"). It's also not heated.
Chairs at the beach, which is right across the park, are $ 20 per day. It might be better to buy one at Wallgreens.
Rob, the owner, was very friendly and even granted us a late check-out.
Parking is best at the Municipal Parking on 13th street, two blocks away.
An overall positive experience!
The apartment is ideally located on Ocean Drive right where the action is. You can observe the action day and night from the balcony. The apartment is rather quiet when the doors are closed and getting a good nights sleep is no problem. The A/C works well. There's plenty of sun in the morning and the ocean views are wonderful. We stayed there for 9 nights with 5 people which is ok (it doesn't raise any red flags when we made the booking) but it is not ideal. Our children managed but the sleeping arrangements suit 4 people better. Apart from that the apartment is comfortable, has a nice kitchen with all appliances you need (except a sharp kitchen knife). We only once visited the hotel pool on the roof of the main building. The pool was rather murky so we preferred the beach. There are restaurants, takeaways, bars and shops within walking distance. We enjoyed our stay and recommend the apartment to those interested in enjoying the Miami Beach atmosphere.
The condo was spotless. The view was amazing. We were right in the thick of the south beach night life. Couldn't have asked for a better place.
We could not have had a better stay in South Beach!! This condo is in such a great location and we enjoyed spending a lot of time on the huge balcony watching the Ocean Drive scene down below. We loved the bed, soooo comfy!! Even though we could hear loud music from about 9am until 4am every day the earplugs we brought for sleeping worked perfectly. We tended to stay out pretty late anyway, so the late night noise wasn't an issue. If you wanted to sleep in though, things pick back up pretty early so earplugs were perfect. Everything was very clean and it was so convenient to have a full refrigerator and kitchen since we always had leftovers from dinner. The rooftop pool was beautiful and the view was incredible. The only negative was that the outside door to the building, which normally requires the key for access, was broken for a few days, even though Congress hotel staff knew it was not working. But since the entrance to the building is somewhat hidden, we weren't too concerned and we generally felt safe throughout our stay. We can't wait to come back!!
