Stylish 2 bedroom and 1 bathroom renovated barn in peaceful, woodland area.
- English, French, Spanish
After 13 years in Melbourne, Australia, we returned to Europe to be closer to our families in the UK. Our daughters who are 6 and 9, have embraced their new home here despite not knowing any French beforehand. They are constantly outdoors marvelling at all the insects, animals and greenery around them but are still adjusting to country life, preferring to do the gardening in roller-skates! As for us, Richard, originally from Yorkshire, runs his own personal coaching business and is very passionate about his career and outdoor life in the Dordogne. Karen is busy in the community, integrating the kids into school life thanks to her fluent French and is an avid golfer. Having grown up in Hong Kong, the French countryside is quite a contrast! And as coeliacs arriving in France we are delighted to have found a number of fantastic restaurants in the area who are accommodating to our needs of being gluten-free. We look forward to welcoming you to this special part of the world and sharing with you our knowledge of the area and life in France.
Why Karen chose Monfaucon
Chez Le Vigneron is tucked away in a beautiful and peaceful setting that gives you the feeling of being in a true haven, away from the hustle and bustle and yet near enough to civilisation! It is also perfectly positioned as there is so much to do in the area, exploring the local villages and towns, vineyards, rivers and lakes, cycling and mountain-biking, walks including the Santiago de Compostela trails and good fishing in 2 lakes close by, particularly carp.
What makes this Barn unique
Chez Le Vigneron is available all year round and is very adaptable to the seasons. Experience a refreshing dip in the natural swimming pool on a hot summer's day or snuggle down with a book in front of a lovely warm fire in winter. The gite itself is extremely well insulated. Whatever the weather, every visitor who has stayed with us has said what a special place it really is. And for us, it's truly a haven.

The Gite is a beautiful place to stay.
It is stylish and modern in side, and beautifully in keeping with area.
The gardens and pool are magical and you can dream away the hours.
Great place to escape to.
Lots to do in the area, very traditional towns to explore.
Would highly recommend it
Lovely and relaxing stay in the french countryside
Perfect family holiday with our 2 year old. Beautiful house and grounds with never ending views of the french countryside. Karen & the family were lovely and were at hand if we needed any answers or recommendations. We prefer natural swimming pools so this suited us down to the ground.
Good base for exploring the Dordogne area and we particularly enjoyed our day out swimming in one of the lakes which was a short drive away.
Would thoroughly recommend staying here.
Fantastic family holiday
We had a fantastic family holiday and were made to feel really welcome on our arrival by Karen and family.
The property is stylish, well proportioned and has everything a family would need for a family holiday. The pool was refreshing and quite unique but was just what we needed at the end of the day.
The gite is set in beautiful surroundings and the local area is great. If you are looking for a peaceful, relaxing and stunning location then you'll make a great choice with this property.
The owners went out of their way to make us feel comfortable and recommended some great places to visit locally.
Although we went in summer, we also imagine it would make for a wonderful winter retreat!
French Countryside Dream Guesthouse
Our stay at Karen and Richard's gite was the vacation of French Countryside dreams. What a special gem. Beautifully appointed on their incredible property, the gite has everything you can ask for - charm, updated bathroom and amenities, comfortable beds, incredible historic architecture, cows on the nearby dairy outside the windows, outdoor dining, privacy, a covered patio overlooking the pool and flowers, fully stocked kitchen, a local wine selection to choose from, warm and welcoming hosts. We spent the days touring nearby towns and afternoons sipping Rose and eating fresh cheeses and market goodies, followed by dips in their amazing all natural pool. It exceeded our expectations and made for a very special holiday. They even provided a cot and high chair for our one year old and a welcome happy hour with their adorable girls. Thank you!
Perfect country retreat
The setting is ideal in a rural location. The buildings are rustic in appearance but the interiors are modern clean and comfortable. The hosts are fantastic friendly welcoming and attentive without being overly present or cloying. They helped us with booking activities and local information, on which they have obviously done their homework. A true time out.
Relaxing stay in a beautiful gite!
We had a wonderful stay at Chez Le Vigneron with our two children. The accommodation itself is beautiful; classic in style, clean, comfortable beds and we had everything provided that we could possibly need. Although the weather was cold (we visited in January!) the gite was nice and cozy with a log fire and the owners even put electric blankets in the beds which was a thoughtful touch. The grounds are gorgeous and the family is lovely :) Thanks Karen, Rich, Arabella and Julia for a fantastic time!
Chez Le Vigneron is situated in the beautiful Perigord region only 30 minutes from Bergerac airport and in close proximity to many activities and places of interest. The location enables both easy day trips away or a short stroll either through the woods or down the quiet road (2,5km) to the nearest (and very reputable) vineyard for tastings.
A working farm shop selling local eggs, fruit and vegetables is 5 minutes’ drive away. The nearest baker, small supermarket, post office, restaurants, newsagent and local wine co-operative cellar door are 10 minutes by car in the village of Le Fleix. Larger supermarkets and an organic health food shop can be found 15-20 minutes away.
Cycling is popular in the area with easy access to canoeing, good carp fishing, horse-riding and tennis in adjacent villages, including one of the Santiago de Compostela walking trails. An aqua park, go-karting, bowling, pottery classes, tree climbing adventure park and Lac de Gurcon are all located within half an hour’s drive. There is also hot air ballooning, an aerodrome and both family-friendly 9 hole and award-winning 27 hole golf courses nearby.
The region is known for its duck products, truffles and strawberries and local markets run almost every day of the week in different villages and towns. The Ste Foy La Grande market which is only 15 minutes away has been voted one of the top 100 markets in France.
Some of the nearby towns of interest are: St Emilion, Bergerac, Bordeaux, Issigeac, Perigueux, Monbazillac, Saussignac and Duras, with the furthest being Arcachon and Sarlat, both within 1hour 40 mins.
