Le Cormoran - Talloires (also searchable as Our French Village House www.ourfrenchvillagehouse.com) is perfect for large families, two families travelling together, small groups of cyclists (the garage with easy access to the street is perfect for storing bikes when not in use), girls' special trips away or even writers' retreats. The metre-thick inside walls, sturdy exposed wooden beams and stone garden walls leave no doubt that this is a house that has a history and has welcomed many generations of families. Set in the middle of the village of Talloires and with great access to all amenities it nonetheless has been decorated with an eye to retaining elements of the past but providing comfort in the present. Light-filled all year round, it offers a double bedroom with direct access to the garden and separate shower and toilet on the ground floor, an open dining area and morning coffee corner on the first floor plus a separate loungeroom which leads out to the terrace and the enclosed back garden. The kitchen, a shower room and a separate toilet are also on this level. The three other bedrooms (one queen and two with two single beds in each) are located on the top floor along with a third bathroom (under the eaves) and a separate toilet. You can choose to dine at either the long wooden table in the dining area inside or the outside table on the terrace, both intended to favour long lunches and festive dinners. A BBQ and some additional outdoor seating has been provided for you to relax and enjoy the mountain vista on offer.

About Catherine Berry
My husband and I headed to France with our three children several years ago to live for a year. Our original choice of destination, the Annecy area, was a lucky fluke arrived at after flicking through the pages of the Lonely Planet Guide, stopping on Annecy and reading not only of the beauty of the lake and the proximity to multiple ski stations but also the international airport of Geneva and Italy a hop, skip and jump away. With our interest piqued, we made enquiries, enrolled the children in local schools and decided after a month of living à la française that a year away would be way too short. If you would like to find out more about us please don't hesitate to contact me and I will be happy to forward additional information and photos to you. If you are really curious, you might like to read 'But you are in France, Madame' - our story. Kindle and paperback editions available on Amazon (search by title).
Catherine Berry purchased this House in 2015
Why Catherine Berry chose Talloires-Montmin
We lived for several years in Menthon-St-Bernard, the next village around the lake and the children attended the local primary school Le Clos Chevalier. Over the years we welcomed many visitors to our simple French life and began to laughingly comment on the increasing pride with which we did so. It was as if we were becoming French ourselves. A place to call home - in France - became our goal and armed with a list of criteria ( close to a bakery being number one! ) and after several years of serious looking we were amazed to be able to finally purchase such a house in the heart of Talloires.
What makes this House unique
The location of the property in the heart of the village of Talloires, only 150m or so from the Lake shore, is second to none. Additional to this is the charm and history of the house itself, complete with a fully enclosed garden and magnificent views. The daily ritual of opening and closing the shutters with lake and mountain glimpses is a pleasure to be savoured as is quiet contemplation from the terrace or beside the lake watching the sun go down.

Lovely old French village house in perfect location
We had a great time in your lovely house which is so close to the town centre, good restaurants and Lake Annecy. The house is very well equipped and evening meals on the deck overlooking the mountains were particularly enjoyable. The fans helped to keep the upstairs bedrooms cooler as they got quite warm in the hot weather. We found the single bed mattresses a bit bouncy and soft, but otherwise the house is very well appointed and full of character.
Thank you, John, for choosing Le Cormoran for your family holiday and for taking the time to let us know your thoughts afterwards. It was a very hot summer, so I am glad that the fans were able to keep you cooler and that you could enjoy meals together on the deck outside. It was a pleasure to have you stay and we would be most happy to have you come again.
Lovely airy, spacious & well equipped traditional French village house
We had a lovely week in Talloires. The house was perfect for 2 families with teenagers with plenty of inside & outside space for sleeping, relaxing & dining. The house is within easy walking distance of Lake Annecy and the shops & restaurants of Talloires. The house is well equipped & we had many sociable mealtimes sitting outside with a mountain view. We enjoyed many of the activities available in the area including mountain biking, white water rafting, a visit to Chamonix as well as the water sports available on Lake Annecy itself. The owner was very helpful beforehand with advice and the local agency were on hand, if needed. The checking in & out processes were straightforward. This is a lovely property in a lovely part of France.
Thank-you Suzanne. I'm glad that I was able to help out beforehand with things to do in the region and so pleased to hear that you had a lovely holiday enjoying all that the Annecy area and Talloires were able to offer you. Thanks, too, for taking the time to leave a review.
Beautiful village house on Lake Annecy
We enjoyed a wonderful week in Le Cormoran (not long enough) and would certainly go back again. The house is lovely and well appointed, perfectly located in the village which has everything that you need for a relaxing or exercise filled holiday without travelling anywhere else - but equally very its very easy to get into Annecy or enjoy the surrounding countryside. We were a party of 8 ranging in age from 4 to 75 and the house catered for all our needs. Excellent holiday house in a great location.
Thank-you, Mike, for choosing to stay at Le Cormoran and for taking the time to leave us a review. I am so pleased that you had a lovely holiday and that you all were able to find your individual pleasures. As you mention, Talloires is not only a beautiful village, but it is well-serviced so that you can spend your entire holiday there enjoying it if you choose. Kind regards, Catherine.
Perfect location, great home
We loved our stay in this home. The house was beautifully decorated, had amazing view of the mountains from the deck, and was very close to everything in the town center - shops, groceries, restaurants, lake, etc. Lots of street parking so never a problem finding a place to park. The weather was very hot during our stay and the upstairs bedrooms became quite warm - but there were lots of house fans, so that helped. Street level bedroom was nice and cool, but just a little damp/musty which wasn't a big problem because we could keep the bedroom window open when we were in the room.
Thank you so much, Amy, for choosing to stay with us at Le Cormoran and for taking the time to leave a reply. I am always so keen to ensure that our guests have the best possible time, so thank-you, too, for your feedback. The lake and the mountains do add a magical quality to our pretty village. Do come back!
Stunning location !
We had a lovely time in Catherine's house, an old typical French house but with all modern confort and a well-equiped kitchen. The weather was already quite chilly but heating was working really well. It is perfectly located in the center of Talloires village, the lake is walking distance. There are many great hikes in the surroundings too. The property manager was really helpful and available when needed. We will definitively love to come back !
Thank-you so much for staying at Le Cormoran in Talloires. As you mention, the location of our home in the centre of the village does make for very easy shopping and access to facilities. It was a pleasure to host you and I hope that you will be back.
Beautiful quaint villa in stunning area of France
We loved our short stay in Talloires. The villa is beautiful, has plenty of space, and is well equipped . The lake is only a short stroll away and is so pretty. It was getting a little bit cold at the time of our stay but was still swimmable. The town of Annecy is only a short drive away and in my opinion is one of the prettiest towns in Europe (at least the towns I have visited). I would strongly recommend the villa to anyone wanting to spend some time in the French Alps.
It was our pleasure to have you stay in our home in Talloires. Well done for swimming as late in the year! As you say, it is a magically pretty area. Do come back and visit again and thank-you for taking the time to send us a review.
Le Cormoran -
Once settled in your light-filled beautiful home in the middle of the Talloires village you could choose to leave your car parked for the duration of your visit and do everything by foot, bike, ferry or bus.
In summer grab your bathers and picnic and head to the grassy lake edge, commonly referred to as the beach. It is just a few minutes walk away, so returning home for a lazy afternoon siesta by some or all of your group is an option to be considered. The more energetic could hop onto a cruising ferry and head into Annecy, known as the Venise des Alpes, after its picturesque waterways, passing by the castles of Duingt and Menthon-St-Bernard en route. Once in Annecy, shopping, strolling, stopping occasionally to read the inscribed plaques detailing persons and events of time gone by, eating on the balconies, in the laneways or in the cosy nooks of the cute cafés and up-market restaurants (take your pick!) or sitting and taking in the mountains from Le Pâquier lawns are all tempting options. If you have even more energy to burn then walking, tennis, cycling, paragliding or water-skiing might be next on your list of local activities.
The remaining seasons of the year do not disappoint. In winter a quick glance outside whilst listening to or reading the weather forecast will determine which of the close-by ski stations you might head to. Closest to home at ten minutes away is the small resort of Talloires-Montmin. This is ideal for the beginner or intermediate skier and perfect for those who only want a quick two hour experience before stopping for lunch or an afternoon drink. In another direction Le Grand Bornand, La Clusaz and La Croix Fry will provide you with days of fun on slopes of varying difficulty. Megève, La Rosière, Semnoz and Crest Voland are just a few of the resorts that are also well and truly accessible.
Food lovers could choose to try a different restaurant in Talloires each day. L'Abbeye de Talloires and Le Père Bise both offer very fine dining experiences but for an informal French café ambience you cannot go past Le café de la Place. The beauty of being in the centre of the village then comes into its own as all of these options are just a walk away.
For other entertainment possibilities Talloires also has its own cinema, located underneath the 8 à 8 grocery store. It shows a range of movies including some selected specifically for children.
To find out more about concerts and other local events we would invite you to flick through the brochures that we have left for you in the lounge room cabinet or wander up to the Talloires 'mairie' or tourist information office, both a few doors away to ask for specific and updated times and details.
Please enquire for rates specific to your needs. Long term rentals are possible. The cleaning fee of 150 euro (per week of stay and included in the quoted weekly price) is to be left with the manager on arrival. Please note, too, that linen for bathroom and kitchen is included. Beach towels are available for hire at 10 euro per towel, if required. Signature of rental contract (one will be draw up specific to your group but sample is included) and payment of rental will confirm booking. We are going through a period of adjustment regarding the local visitor's tax. It should be paid at 2.30 euro per adult (over 18) per night, but I am still to be advised by HomeAway whether they will be collecting this or whether it will be paid to the local manager on arrival. Please accept my apologies for any inconvenience whilst this change takes place.
