Beautiful four bedroom gîte, sleeping up to seven guests. Totally renovated in 2016 to an incredible standard.
Chez Fins Bois
For 2018, we are excited to be adding heating to our outdoor, seasonal pool.
Our family run business has everything you could need for a perfect holiday. You can escape from the hustle and bustle and make this holiday haven your home from home.
There are 4 well-equipped, newly renovated, properties from which to choose, offering self-catering facilities, a heated pool (open from end May to end September) and beautiful gardens that are just waiting to be explored. Our four gîtes are available all year round:
Les Hirondelles is a well-equipped four-bedroom cottage which will accommodate up to seven people. One easy access downstairs double bedroom, and a further two bedrooms, one of which has an ensuite shower room. Separate, wheelchair accessible downstairs family shower room.
Les Vignes is the little sister to Les Hirondelles and ideal for small families. It has three bedrooms in total and can sleep up to six.
Totally renovated in 2017, L'Ecurie retains its rustic, 19th century charm. A delightful stand-alone two bedroom cottage, ideal for two couples or small families, sleeps up to four. Each bedroom is accessible by its own staircase, ensuring your privacy.
La Forge is our latest addition and has an easy access ground floor bedroom with en-suite shower room and WC. There is a beautifully decorated mezzanine salon with TV and a log effect fire. We even provide a quiet corner in which to read and relax. The cottage sleeps two in a double room.

About Tania and John Clegg
Hailing from Warwickshire and Worcestershire, having seen the children safely grow up and build successful careers of their own, it was time for John and Tania to "pull the plug" and move, lock, stock and barrel, to France in order to realise a long held dream. In their previous lives, John was a director of an import/distribution company, working with Chinese and Vietnamese factories supplying national retailers with consumer durables (there are only so many long haul flights one person can take in a lifetime); Tania was a receptionist at a busy dental practice in Stratford upon Avon. Now based permanently on site, they have made Chez Fins Bois their home and are loving the slower pace of life. Eventually there will be five fully renovated properties in this rural setting but, for 2016 at least, they will have three up and running, of which Les Hirondelles was the first to open in early April.
Tania and John Clegg purchased this Cottage in 2015
Why Tania and John Clegg chose Néré
The second sunniest region in France, Charente Maritime is a beautiful place in which to spend a relaxing holiday. Long clear straight Roman roads make driving a pleasure once again. Secluded villages selling local produce with small bars and bistros to explore. The rolling countryside is a patchwork quilt of vineyards (grapes mainly destined to become Pineau or Cognac) interspersed with cornfields and sunflowers. The long, unspoilt Atlantic beaches are not far away and within an hour's drive. La Rochelle is a beautiful historic port , the Aquarium is a superb attraction. St Martin Ile de Ré is stunning, reminiscent of Padstow, the bars and restaurants surrounding the marina are ideal for a relaxing lunchtime drink or an afternoon drink. This is a historic region with palaeolithic settlements standing side by side with the Gallo Roman forts, arches and amphitheatres. Cognac, Angoulême, Saint Jean d'Angely, Niort, Saintes are larger picturesque medieval towns all within easy reach. The Church of Saint-Pierre d'Aulnay (French: Église Saint-Pierre d'Aulnay) is an important Medieval church on the pilgrim's way to Saint-Jacques de Compostelle. The Church is thought to have been built in 1120-1140. However, why not just enjoy the gardens, pool, al-fresco dining and games and just relax in this peaceful setting

Fabulous hosts, we were made to feel very welcome and nothing was too much trouble. Great attention to detail, very comfortable, we only wish we could have stayed longer. We used Chez Fin Bois as a base while house hunting in the area, it is very difficult to find somewhere comfortable and warm out of season - we could not have chosen better. Getting up to the lovely hot rain showers in the morning to having our log burner roaring on our return each day, it was fabulous. Even having a superb fresh breakfast delivered to our gite each morning. Chez Fins Bois can accommodate couples looking for peace and quiet, to large family groups over a number of their gites wanting to get together but still 'have their own space'. We would love to return with the extended family sometime.
Les Hirondelles for 12 nights...
My Wife and I, with our two girls loved our time at John and Tania's Gite - the location, the quality of accommodation, the cleanliness, the safety factor for the kids (they could run free and be safe without having to worry) were all worthy of five stars. John and Tania went above and beyond to ensure we were happy and comfortable without getting in the way. Our overall review of our stay is four star, simply because the pool was very cold. Okay for me as I swim regularly at home - but for the kids this was an issue. They'd have been in the pool all day if they could, but it was simply too chilly for them. Maybe covering the pool at night, or a heater would help and if so, we'd have rated it five star all the way ! Thank you for looking after us ! Neil and Sam.
Thanks Neil for your great review. Pity the weather wasn't a bit warmer, this summer has not been the best. The pool is up to 26 degrees today and very welcome given the current 35 degree heatwave. Hope to see you again in a couple of years when the big gîte is done. Glad you enjoyed it.
Beautiful gites and excellent hosts!
Beautiful gites and superb hosts. John and Tania have created a wonderfully relaxing and immaculate couple of gites with more to come. We will definitely be back!
Fantastic Gite's finished to a very high standard set in stunning surroundings
A lovely welcome from John and Tania, the Gite's are prepared to a very high and thoughtful standard, the garden, pool and other facilities are excellent. I would definitely recommend it.
Thank you Pete, so pleased you enjoyed your stay, you were great guests! We hope to see you again soon.
Superbly appointed gîte and genial hosts
We really enjoyed our stay, in the beautifully decorated and fully equipped gîte. It was the little extra touches that made it really comfortable: the tea and coffee, the super swings and slide for the kids, plus badminton and boule, shady nooks to read in, noughts and crosses by the bench, and of course the beautiful pool. Our hosts were extremely helpful and friendly, and helped us enjoy our stay to the utmost. We would definitely recommend this gîte to others.
Thank you Jenny, we are so pleased you enjoyed your stay with us. We look forward to greeting you again one day. We enjoyed David's photos which are fabulous. Thank you
A very warm welcome and a fully renovated gite
I stayed at this gite for 5 weeks with a varying team, whilst renovating my own property close by. We were given a very nice welcome all through the stay. John and Tania cooked for us some nights and the food was excellent "Bistro quality". The property has been fully refurbished with everything that you need. We were too early in the year to use the pool or gardens. The gite is in a small peaceful hamlet in a beautiful area of France about an hour to the beach, with shops and markets within 10 to 15 mins.
Néré is the local village where you can pick up your morning baguette and croissants, enjoy a bistro style lunch or a traditional French evening meal.
A large terrace, equipped with sun loungers and parasols, surrounds the generously sized pool. Each gîte also has its own outdoor dining area with tables, chairs and shade, along with a charcoal barbecue for those of you who enjoy the al fresco experience.
For the adventurers among you, why not borrow our bikes* and explore the local area, the markets and the cycling routes. What better way to enjoy the beautiful scenery? But don’t let the picturesque French countryside setting fool you, there is plenty to keep you busy in the local area if you are looking for a more active holiday. If it’s golf, cycling, kayaking, fishing or horse riding that tickles your fancy; you have come to the right place! Or perhaps you would like to take a short trip to Cognac to sample the local produce. A day out to Île de Ré is a must; Saint-Jean d’Angély, Saintes and the lovely beaches at Saint-Georges-de-Didonne, are all within easy reach.
Once you sample the simple pleasures of relaxing on the terrace, while the little ones explore the garden, play on the swings or make use of the on site games (including: table tennis, table football, pool, swingball, badminton and pétanque), you may never want to leave! In the cooler months you can relax in front of a real Charentais fireplace watching the TV (multilingual, of course) or settling down with a good book (perhaps from our free book exchange). The welcoming atmosphere and little extra touches, including hidden fairy doors, are sure to spark your imagination and create those magical holiday memories.
We look forward to welcoming you, your friends and family soon.
*we have a small number of bikes on site which are available at no extra cost. We only ask that guests who want to borrow the bikes bring their own safety helmets.
