About Le Gîte de la forge

I am English and Claude French. We have four children, a dog, cats and two ponies. We arrived in Saint Martin de Bavel in 2004 and have been renovating the forge du Perou ever since! The gite was let all year round and when the tenant left in january 2016, we decided to have a go at holiday letting.

We absolutely love this area, we have travelled widely and we are always pleased to get home. We want to share this undiscovered beautiful part of France that the French and Swiss neighbours have been keeping for themselves.

Le Gîte de la forge purchased this cottage in 2004

Why Le Gîte de la forge chose Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes

The forge is an old stone house dating back from 1802 in the heart of the village. Saint Martin de Bavel is a typical old fashioned agricultural village perfectly located to discover the area.

Beautiful gite in a wonderful location

  • 5 of 5

The gite has everything needed for the perfect holiday. The two en suite bedrooms are spacious and beautifully fitted out. The downstairs living accommodation is tastefully furnished and the kitchen area is very well equipped. The two outside terraces and swimming pool are delightful, and the hospitality shown by Sarah and Claude is wondeful! The whole area is beautiful with many places to explore. A brilliant holiday!!!

Beautiful little gite in a peaceful, sleepy village. Sarah, Claude and their family were charming, friendly and informative. We loved staying here and would definitely recommend it to anyone wanting to explore this beautiful part of France.

Absolutely superb

  • 5 of 5

It was our first time driving in France. Despite the distance every inch was worth the journey. The accommodation was excellent, the views were stunning and our hosts, Sarah & Claude, were so welcoming. Sarah in particular not only has a vast knowledge of the area she is also a very good cook. Nothing was too much trouble, even accompanying us to the vet to make sure we were understood. Thank you to all the family.

Wonderful stay in a beautiful place

  • 5 of 5

We couldn't recommend this place more highly! The gite is beautifully restored, clean, comfortable and well equipped. The pool and the view from the pool is spectacular. The showers are also amazing.

Saint Martin is small and quaint and brilliantly located to explore the surrounding lakes, vineyards, waterfalls and mountains. There are some lovely walks right from the doorstep as well as lots of places to visit only a short drive away.

Sarah and Claude were wonderful hosts. Warm and friendly. They took time to give us lots of useful local information and suggestions of places to go and things to see which was much appreciated and really helpful. They also brought over some home grown tomatoes and figs for us - delicious.

We had a wonderful week at the gite and would love to return at some point in the future. Thank you x
