About this property

Former Sea Captains' 1850s Greek Revival home minutes to town and boat launch

A Beautiful Greek Revival home with wide wrap around porches poised for lovey afternoon and evening sun. Set on 3 acres of hillside, and a 5 minute walk into the small village of Waldoboro and its town dock (bring your kayak/canoe, etc), this is close to many beautiful parks, waterways, and other more famous areas of mid midcoast Maine (but they are more crowded!), such as Damariscotta, Rockland, Camden, Belfast, Acadia. The village of Waldoboro has a great local family friendly pub, the Narrows, and there is a local brewery as well less than a mile away in a beautiful barn setting. The house is close to many conveniences and pretty privately set among trees, and note also close to the road where local traffic heads to and from the tip of our peninsula, to Friendship (mostly lobster and lumber toting vehicles).

Rooms are lovingly furnished with owners' finds from antique and flea markets. This is not a fully renovated old house, so it has it's old charm and quirks, and is a bit rough around the edges, but we think it's beautiful and cozy - see the pictures! There is NO AC or TV, but there is good Wifi. This house is Erica’s primary home, and in wanting to share it's beauty, she hands it over to visitors in the Summer, while she and her cat and dog move into the barn loft above her metal studio, where she focuses on her full time metal craft business. Contact is advised prior to booking to assure latest updates in availability!

In the attached post and beam barn is a well appointed metal and wood shop, available upon request for guided use and/or furniture to sculpture, she can arrange to be a sort of Maker Space B&B! She also offers a 10% discount off our handmade wares to guests and their friends & family, purchased at the house or at her website.

The Museum
As adults we found the history of the place interesting. We intended to have children stay with us but with so much "history" in the space we decided it would not be safe for them and the place. Above all we totally enjoyed the beautiful porch.Thank you

Wonderful big house on Maine Coast
The captains house was everything we wanted., open, big, great porch and a huge kitchen to cook meals together in. The location is close to the water and attractions, but out of the congestion of rt 1.

Really Lovely
Excellent place to stay in, cook, and enjoy the sunset on a grand front porch. Or if you like exploring, oysters, beaches, and ferry rides, all are closeby. Music nerds: Be prepared to fall in love.

Wonderful location for an amazing family trip to Maine
Our family (ranging from 8 to 79 years old) had an amazing time on our trip to Maine. This location was great to do all sorts of day trips (Acadia, Freeport, Boothbay Harbor to name a few). Erica was a fabulous host and the house was exactly what we needed. After a successful day of clamming she happily hooked us up with a hose to clean off our muddy boots and clothes in the yard lol. As she notes, there's no a/c and no TVs, but it didn't bother us; we even got the teenagers to stop playing on their phones and join us for some card games! We spent a lot of time rocking on the porch and enjoying the wonderful Maine weather We were able to fit two cars (a mini-van and an SUV) in the parking area with no issue. Would recommend this house to any family that's ok with stairs and older children (Erica has such cool things she's collected that I'd be worried a toddler might break something). If we're ever back that way again we'd definitely stay there. Thank you again Erica! :-)

About the host

Hosted by Erica Moody

Host profile image
Erica relocated here recently to live in a quieter and more environmentally rich location, after living on a sailboat in Boston Harbor for 3 1/2 years. She operates her metalcraft business in the attached post and beam barn, where lodgers can also arrange to receive instruction on custom metal work techniques (including welding and brazing for sculpture or furniture for example, ask her for more details and package discounts). Hand made metal wares can also be bought at a 10% discount to renters and their guests.

Why they chose this property

Close to but not in the hectic tourist towns, walking distance to town and boat launch, and other convenient amenities of a small village. The house is beautiful, with tall ceilings and many large windows, with a beautiful hillside pasture and Ash forest that lead to acres of town land with trails. Beautiful views of the Medomak Valley and the tidal river from the house, and close to an incredible choice of many trails and cultural entertainment.

What makes this property unique

Optional extras include getting a welding/metalworking lesson in the barn studio. If interested, please inquire!
