About Alexandra

My family and I have lived in Lucca for the past 10 years having transferred from London. An avid art and history lover, I feel enriched and extremely lucky to live in Italy. I teach English and am involved in tourism here. Our 2 daughters have benefited growing up in the welcoming and warm social atmosphere of Lucca, being accostomed to being made the centre of attention as all children are in Italy and eating well at every meal! As young teenagers, the subtle changes to Lucca that have evolved in the past few years mean that they have a great social life, there is an air of modernity in the city, fashion, music and events are an important part of this chic little place. We contiinue to run our restaurant in London and this affords us a foot in both countries. Italy is where our heart is though and I never cease to feel uplifted by the beauty of the area as I run around the walls of Lucca or the hills of Meati.

Why Alexandra chose Lucca

The villa is in an area of outstanding beauty, it offers tranquility and relaxation yet it is very near the walled city so popping into town for a stroll around or to indulge in a 'gelato' is very easy. The property is stunning and well equipped, it offers great accomodation for a reasonable price. In 5 minutes you can reach the autostrada from the house meaning quick access and no traffic when going to the beaches of Versillia or to the airport in Pisa. It is very well positioned for further trips if you would like to visist Florence or Sienna or otherr nearby areas.

What makes this villa unique

Stunning countryside

Sympathetic restoration has ensured the property has retained lots of original features and original materials have been used such as slate, and marble to stay in keeping with the serene beauty of the house. The modern touches of the Dada kitchen, power showers throughout, villeroy and boch baths and the large wardrobe spaces mean the house has a luxurious yet practical feel.

The gardens are very beautiful and ample. The vinyard produces great San Giovanni wine.

The large swimming pool and tennis courts in Vicopelego are very near.

Lucca is one of the most beautiful perfectly formed cities in Italy, It has enchanting cobblestoned winding streets with over 100 elaborate churches and elegant palaces and is encircled by ancient fortification walls dating back to the 11th century. Nowadays the walls are like the city's park; lined by trees planted by th Duchess of Bourbon when she commissioned the walls to be developed into an elegant public walkway. Lucca has a vast number of shops and fantastic restaurants to suit every budget. There are lots of bars and museums. It's great for sight seeing and for strolling or cycling round the pretty streets feeling like a local. The area of Meati and Gattaiola is very near town whilst being emmersed in nature. It is home to many beautiful old Lucchese villas and is a popular spot for the Lucchese to cycle, run and go walking. 5 minutes walk from the house is the local Osteria di Meati which serves fantastic cuisine and has a wide array of wines. In the summer it has a large terrace on which to dine on looking out on the enclosed garden with a swing for children to play after dinner. Lucca is in the heart of Tuscany and a short distance from Pisa with it's famous Leaning Tower and Duomo and a 45 minute drive from Florence, the city of art and culture, home to Boticelli, Micelangelo, V
