Lovely stay in Staithes 😄

  • 4 of 5

We had a lovely stay in Staithes for the RNLI fundraising weekend in this cottage perfectly located a short walk from the harbour and lifeboat hub. The cottage was well stocked with all necessary amenities meaning you can travel light. And very kindly a parking permit is supplied (this does not guarantee a space in the designated car park but alternative parking is easily available and reasonably priced) The cottage itself is at the bottom of some steep hills but this is the case for everything in Staithes so not avoidable!! The slipway cottage is cosy but good size for its purpose not feeling too crowded for three of us, we had a very comfortable stay. Plenty of storage space available with drawers and cupboards and light sources aplenty at every corner of the room. We were well equipped with all necessary information about the cottage well in advance; directions, access etc, we had the opportunity to meet Simon the cottage owner who was very welcoming and told us about the best places to visit in the village and things to do during our stay. Simon was very accessible and responsive to questions and queries we had both before and during our stay. Overall we had a lovely stay and are intending to plan a return visit soon!!

Thankyou Simon

Small but perfectly formed

  • 5 of 5

We arrived a little early but were able to quickly unpack the car and return later. For 2 adults and 2 children the house is just right. Living Room has on demand TV though we were hardly in it, breakfast and supper only. Kitchen is well equipped with oven, microwave, fridge and freezer and plenty of utensils. House was clean and easy to access from the centre of the village. Owner was in the village and able to answer any questions we had which was a big plus. Will definitely be looking to book again.

Fab cosy cottage in the heart of Staithes

  • 5 of 5

Nicely decorated cottage, with comfy sofas/beds and a well equipped kitchen. It was a nice surprise that there was a welcome box of tea, milk and other bits and bobs. This was a good standard of accomodation and clean. Our 18 year old was delighted with the 'boat' bunk bed and couldn't stop laughing every night manouvering his 6 foot 3 frame into bed. We found a friendly welcome in Staithes, and all the pubs did good food and beer - a fine reward for a weeks walking. We walked from Staithes to Runswick Bay on the first day and enjoyed terrific views and there was the treat of good food and drink in the Runswick Hotel at the end. Day 2 we went to Saltburn which was great. Day 3 we went to Whitby hopeful of a ride on the steam train to Grosmont but unfortunately we chose the day of the rail strike so spent the day in Whitby. We took the open top bus ride after a lovely breakfast on the front. We got off at the Whitby Brewery and sampled some good real ale. I reccommend Staithes as a holiday destination and as a base to explore North Yorkshire and the moors. I recommend a walking in the moors that take in sculptures along the way such as the man on the moor, Captain Cooks memorial.

Great little cottage

  • 4 of 5

In a fantastic spot in the middle of Staithes. Great for walking and handy for the pubs (which serve great food). Cottage is small, but ideal for the 2 of us. Seagulls are very noisy at night, if you’re a light sleeper take earplugs!

Very cosy, everything we could need (only thing extra that could be useful is a toaster and a non stick pan).

Staithes Beach

Staithes was once a major local fishing port, like Robin Hood's Bay and many other fishing ports along the Yorkshire Coast, . Although the little fishing boats and lobster pots along the harbour, point to a continuing trade with the sea.

There are several slipways around Staithes but the one that catches your eye is an old cobbled affair, leading directly into the Roxby Beck. The beck fills with water at high tide and along it's length there are small fishing boats attached to their moorings by long, thick ropes. All adding to the quaintness of the place. Here is where you find Slipway Cottage

The cottage is a 1890's and is of a high standard and has everything for a relaxing stay.
