Sparrowhawk House - Bald Point Jewel In An Old Florida Setting

Bedrooms 1
Space 1,000 sq. ft.
Property type house
Minimum Stay 3 nights

About the property

1 Bedroom, 1 Bath, Sleeps 2

Sparrowhawk House is a 1000 sq/ft custom home that is now accepting reservations. We are located on Bald Point near Panacea, Florida in a small, quiet beach neighborhood along the Forgotten Coast, surrounded by Bald Point State Park.

Bald Point is located on Alligator Point, where Ochlockonee Bay meets Apalachee Bay on the Gulf of Mexico, and is a great destination for birding and wildlife viewing. Each fall, bald eagles and other migrating raptors, along with monarch butterflies, are commonly seen heading south for the winter. History buffs will appreciate that during World War II, Bald Point was the eastern edge of Camp Gordon Johnston, where the Normandy landing rehearsals were conducted, and stargazers will like the very dark night skies.

Sparrowhawk House is constructed of local materials including river-reclaimed heartpine floors, deadhead cypress siding, and cherry counter tops and cabinetry. There are beamed, vaulted ceilings, and a large sunporch that overlooks the beach with stunning, panoramic views. The enclosed porch also features a double Murphy bed, which is perfect for those who want to wake up to the sunrise over the Gulf. Our master bedroom is nestled in a quiet corner with windows on level with twisted live oak trees. You will sleep deeply and comfortably on our queen-sized Tempurpedic mattress. The bathroom has a tile walk-in shower, and our 'wing-span-kitchen' is fully stocked for cooking up some delicious beach food. The southeast-facing deck overlooks the Gulf of Mexico, a boardwalk to the beach, and nearby native trees.

The house is 75 yards from the water. To get there just walk straight down Grouper Street, or you can use the boardwalk behind the house.

Note that Sparrowhawk House is 'self-cleaning', ie our guests clean the house themselves on departure. All supplies are provided, as is a cleaning checklist.

June 2015 Owner Notes: If you have read this far, you will know that our little beach house is now hosting guests...and we have learned a few things! It is very important to us that our guests have a pleasant and successful beach holiday, but it is also important to us that we (and our wonderful beach neighbors!) are happy with our guests. Therefore, please consider the following:

*While Sparrowhawk House is available for a maximum of 4 guests, it is really more comfortable for 1 or 2 persons.

*While we do allow (and LOVE!) children, our beach house is not what we consider to be child-friendly.

*Sparrowhawk House is not available for event-hosting.

*A maximum of 2 vehicles may be parked in the driveway (and none on the street or yard). Boats and campers are not allowed.

Guestbook comments from the owner

Joel & Allise,

We feel like we have just spent three days living in a work of art. The attention to detail combined with the respect for local materials and talent makes this space truly special. We spent quite a bit of time soaking in the smell of the wood, looking at the unique touches and appreciating your thoughtfulness.

Then we walked on the beach and explored Bald Point State Park - where we met a beautiful snake, an alligator, a white squirrel, and a very large lizard! When can we come back?

Lovely house by the sea

  • 5 of 5

Such a nice house. Open, comfortable, very tastefully decorated. The views from the windows are incredible and we enjoyed the Milky Way on the deck at night. Next time we will stay longer. The owners are just the best as well.

We loved our stay at Sparrow Hawk house! The home was beautiful, spotless and steps from the beach. The local seafood was to die for! The living beach has much to offer for learning and exploring! We would recommend it to everyone.

Great Place

  • 4 of 5

The home is excellent. Has a good beach view. The beach itself is in an area known for fishing. So if you like to fish this is the place. If you're expecting clear water and clean beaches this is not the area. Overall an excellent experience.

Wonderful 4th of July Vacation!

  • 5 of 5

We thoroughly enjoyed our week at the Sparrowhawk. This was our second visit this year. The house is perfect for us. It is modern yet still remains cozy and is always very clean & well stocked. I would highly recommend the house for couples who want a quiet & relaxing getaway. Beautiful view! Thanks again to the Whitworth's for letting us enjoy their home.

A beautiful home placed in a natural, old Florida setting.

  • 5 of 5

Second time here in as many years. Hope to keep coming back. Ochlokonee Bay is a beautiful spot, and the house is a perfect place to spend time there. Bay view from interior. Wrap around front room is gorgeous. House has architectural features that will make you want to remodel your own home. Owners are easy to work with (responsive last year, this year never needed to contact.) Overall, highly recommended.
