Overview

About the property

1 Bedroom, 1 Bath, Sleeps 2

Sparrowhawk House is a 1000 sq/ft custom home that is now accepting reservations. We are located on Bald Point near Panacea, Florida in a small, quiet beach neighborhood along the Forgotten Coast, surrounded by Bald Point State Park.

Bald Point is located on Alligator Point, where Ochlockonee Bay meets Apalachee Bay on the Gulf of Mexico, and is a great destination for birding and wildlife viewing. Each fall, bald eagles and other migrating raptors, along with monarch butterflies, are commonly seen heading south for the winter. History buffs will appreciate that during World War II, Bald Point was the eastern edge of Camp Gordon Johnston, where the Normandy landing rehearsals were conducted, and stargazers will like the very dark night skies.

Sparrowhawk House is constructed of local materials including river-reclaimed heartpine floors, deadhead cypress siding, and cherry counter tops and cabinetry. There are beamed, vaulted ceilings, and a large sunporch that overlooks the beach with stunning, panoramic views. The enclosed porch also features a double Murphy bed, which is perfect for those who want to wake up to the sunrise over the Gulf. Our master bedroom is nestled in a quiet corner with windows on level with twisted live oak trees. You will sleep deeply and comfortably on our queen-sized Tempurpedic mattress. The bathroom has a tile walk-in shower, and our 'wing-span-kitchen' is fully stocked for cooking up some delicious beach food. The southeast-facing deck overlooks the Gulf of Mexico, a boardwalk to the beach, and nearby native trees.

The house is 75 yards from the water. To get there just walk straight down Grouper Street, or you can use the boardwalk behind the house.

Note that Sparrowhawk House is 'self-cleaning', ie our guests clean the house themselves on departure. All supplies are provided, as is a cleaning checklist.

June 2015 Owner Notes: If you have read this far, you will know that our little beach house is now hossing guests...and we have learned a few things! It is very important to us that our guests have a pleasant and successful beach holiday, but it is also important to us that we (and our wonderful beach neighbors!) are happy with our guests. Therefore, please consider the following:

*While Sparrowhawk House is available for a maximum of 4 guests, it is really more comfortable for 1 or 2 persons.

*While we do allow (and LOVE!) children, our beach house is not what we consider to be child-friendly.

*Sparrowhawk House is not available for event-hosting.

*A maximum of 2 vehicles may be parked in the driveway (and none on the street or yard). Boats and campers are not allowed.

Guestbook comments from the owner

Joel & Allise,

We feel like we have just spent three days living in a work of art. The attention to detail combined with the respect for local materials and talent makes this space truly special. We spent quite a bit of time soaking in the smell of the wood, looking at the unique touches and appreciating your thoughtfulness.

Then we walked on the beach and explored Bald Point State Park - where we met a beautiful snake, an alligator, a white squirrel, and a very large lizard! When can we come back?

Beautiful, serene,relaxing.

  • 5 of 5

The Sparrowhawk House is conveniently located about 120 yards from the beach. The morning sunrise is spectacular and the days are breezy and peaceful. Its far from the hustle and bustle of resort beaches and is a true vacation. We saw all kinds of bird life and deer everyday. The house itself was well appointed and comfortable.

This is a thoughtfully designed and lovingly cared for home!

We loved our week in this beautiful spot! Enjoyed riding our bikes through the area and walking the almost private beach. We got closer to a pair of bald eagles than I'd thought possible. The views are amazing from this cozy home. We'll be back!

Fantastic!!

  • 5 of 5

Sparrowhawk is beautiful. And like many others have said, they built this little house paying close attention to detail. We spent a wonderfully relaxing vacation here. Very easy walk to the beach with an absolutely beautiful view. We saw an alligator while on a bike ride down the road at a small lake, bear paw prints one morning, and a dolphin on our last morning. Stunning home. Loved it! Thank you Joel and Alise!

I want to live here!

  • 5 of 5

I couldn't have been happier with my stay at Sparrowhawk. The owners have done an excellent job of creating this unique and wonderful home and I loved every bit of it. Compact, charming and in a great spot just a few steps from the beach, this is a perfect place for a getaway. The owners have thought of everything and it shows. It's quiet and peaceful, too. Plus the owners are super easy to work with; I needed a place at the last minute and they came through for me. Highly recommended.

What a treat!

What an amazing experience someone who appreciates craftsmanship, architecture and a home well cared for will have. We marveled at the work working and hand crafted tables and counters. These hosts have spared no details in making a special beach retreat!
