I found the High House online and was immediately drawn to it because of the stunning photos of the property. It looked like a good fit for our group but we had a number of questions related to logistics and rooms – our group comprised of 13 adults and 10 children. The management team was incredibly responsive to those questions and also made themselves available by phone when requested.

On arrival, a very pleasant member of the management team (Jenene) met us as scheduled and did a full walk-through of the property and amenities to make sure we were comfortable with everything. I can say without question and on behalf of the group that as stunning as the photos are, they do not do the house justice. It’s a luxurious property which has been stylishly decorated and with no expense spared. Every room offers something slightly different but never compromises on comfort or quality. It’s also a very safe and secure property, with electric gates and fencing around the perimeter – peace of mind for the parents in the group. Of course, it goes without saying that having a tennis court and heated swimming pool (with sheltered BBQ/Bar area) just made our stay all the more fun for adults and kids! Jenene thoughtfully checked in with me (by text) midway through our stay to see if we needed anything – a nice touch and appreciated.

In summary, we had a superb experience from start to finish and we will most certainly revisit. Thank you again to the High House Team!

robbed of my deposit

The house is nice and we all had a great time but the owner robbed the deposit! On the first night I used the shower in the master bedroom and after I finished a friend came to tell me that water was leaking in the hallway underneath. I noticed that the water was collecting while I was using it but didn't think much of it at the time as the ensuite is designed like a wet room. I messaged to inform the manager straight away and she said she would send someone over to have a look at it the next day. A plumber the next day who didn't speak very good English explained that the drain was blocked and he was trying to unblock it with difficulty. On his way out he said he finally managed to unblock it but to keep an eye on it. I sent a text to the manager to inform her of this and I received a very rude text back claiming the shower was left to run unattended causing water to leak into the gym, non of which was true and the water never reached the gym which I did explain in my text. Now the owner is saying the same thing and claims that the plumber told me this and I never contested it at the time which is again completely untrue as he barely spoke to me! After I argued my side the owner is now claiming that he gets to retain the deposit anyway as he needs to change the artificial lawn around the pool because there are many cigarette burns. I did admittedly notice 2 very small cigarette burns which can either be patched or sprayed over, it is after all artificial lawn for god's sake! He sent me photos of what he claims to be more burns but look like a bit of ash and is claiming that he is going to change the whole lawn which cost him an incredible amount!! As if he thinks the internet doesn't exist and I can't find out how much fake lawn costs- a maximum of £33/sqm for top of the range and he certainly does not need to change the whole lot. What kind of design is it anyway placing artificial lawn around an outdoor pool in a party house where people are most certainly going to be smoking! I am now taking legal action because this is highly unfair treatment and the owner clearly does this all the time thinking he can get away with it. Although I enjoyed my birthday weekend it feels very far away now and not at all worth it, expect your rent amount to be a huge amount more because you're not getting your deposit back!

Owner's Response: Thank you Christine for your comments. I am delighted you enjoyed your stay at The High House and I would like to have this opportunity to explain why on this rare occasion we have had no choice but to withhold your damages deposit. Unfortunately the Master en suite bathroom is not designed to be a wet room and so if you allow water to escape beyond the glass protector screen throughout the whole area this will cause as it did flooding throughout. I'm sorry if you thought there was a language barrier with our maintenance guy that attended to investigate I can assure you and future guests this in no way impacts his ability with the work he carries out with us he knows the The High House very well and has been with us for many years. We invested a lot of money in our newly renovated pool area with the artificial grass and you were our first guests to experience it, I do of course appreciate your feedback that we are a 'party house' however as stated in the terms and conditions we do expect our guests to respect the house during their stay and smoking is only permitted in areas in the gardens and butts disposed of in the bins provided, we will always be lenient on the odd accident but we did find 9 separate burns to the newly laid grass with numerous cigarette ends with them. We did ask the question with the company that carried out the work if patching up the damages would be an option however this is not possible and with the luxury grass we have had the only option is to replace it. Based on everything mentioned we very reluctantly had to keep your deposit to contribute to the costs involved to rectify these issues for our future guests. There was no malice or robbing of you of any nature at all and I'm sorry if this is how you feel it's been left, we have a great relationship with our guests and I hope after my reply as much as you are angry with our decision we hope you can understand more clearly the reasons why.
