Deer House - cosy cottage in Wales

Bedrooms 1
Property type cottage
Minimum Stay 2 nights

About the property

The house is located on the south side of the Snowdonia National Park and is an end of terrace house which, back in 1826, was a weavers cottage. We have recently extensively refurbished the cottage and this includes a new bathroom. The Snowdonia National Park is 5 miles away. Other attractions are the Centre for Alternative Technology, Nature Reserves, Talyllyn Railway, Devils Bridge and seaside Aberdovey and Borth. There are superb footpaths for walkers and trails for mountain bikers. The house sleeps only two people but there is room for camp beds although we do not provide them. The house offers clean, basic facilities which is how we keep the rental rate low. There is an excellent cleaner who cleans at the start of your stay and at the end. All linen and 4 towels are provided, but do bring extra towels if you require them. We provide cotton sheets and a comfortable bed.

The staircase is a typical cottage style and is not suitable for people with mobility difficulties.

Although the property is for two people only you are most welcome to bring children however we do not provide additional facilities for them and please do make them aware that they must walk and not run up and down the stairs.

This is a clean, simple welsh cottage in a beautiful area close to much of the best of Wales. The cottage is not a 5 star hotel and this is reflected in the price. If you are looking for well placed accommodation with lots of traditional features then this is the perfect little cottage for your stay. Light the fire when you arrive and the atmosphere is delightful.

The house has a small front garden, a patio at the back and a large side garden. The house is in an ideal area for exploring the Snowdonia National Park.

There may be a store of logs and coal which you are welcome to use, but as I can't always guarantee that the previous guests have replenished the stock I do suggest that you buy coal, logs, firelighters and kindling from any of the local garages.

There are a number of very good restaurants in the area and lots of beautiful picnic spots. I can send you a list of interesting places to visit, fantastic picnic spots and spectacular scenery.

Beautiful location. Basic cottage.

  • 3 of 5

Nice little cottage in a beautiful location. Nothing supplied. Would have been nice to at least have had milk in the fridge. Every other self catering accommadation i have stayed in have provided a welcome supply of food. We ran out of loo roll within a day. The garden out back was unusable & although dog friendly was not dog safe. It was a lovley cottage though & we really enjoyed the location & everything Wales had to offer. You could tell the owner did not live near by.

Owner's Response: Thank you for your feedback and I am very pleased that you enjoyed your stay and found the cottage lovely. We have a very thorough cleaning service who take great pride in their work and for us, the most important thing is that the cottage is always clean. We do say in the information that we offer a basic, clean accommodation in a beautiful part of Wales and this is reflected in the price. At this price, we can't include a welcome pack of food but we do include tea, coffee, sugar etc. There was also a roll of loo paper and a spare roll which should be sufficient for a 3 night stay. The garden at the front of the house is suitably fenced and also there's a large garden at the side of the house which is well cared for and also fenced and so I am puzzled as to why you would say the garden is 'unusable'. I was not aware that you would be bringing a dog and I don't think that any accommodation would guarantee an absolutely safe garden space for a dog. However, for medium dogs and above, the side garden is a good space for them to run around in. There is also a huge common at the back of the cottage which stretches for miles and is perfect for long dog walks and a river across the road for splashing about in :)

Charming, Cozy Cottage in Gorgeous Locale

  • 5 of 5

My son and I LOVED our stay in the cottage. It is located in Commins Coch, a quiet neighborhood surrounded by gorgeous hills and fluffy sheep. Many great walks in the area, and the bus stop is literally across the street. The nearby village of Machynlleth is delightful. The cottage is modern in its facilities, but has wonderful 19th century charm. The kitchen was perfect for us, and we Ioved having a fireplace in the living room. The owner is very pleasant, incredibly helpful, and quick to respond to queries. Overall, one of the loveliest stays I can remember!

Enjoyed the cottage location is good

  • 2 of 5

The cottage is lower cost than many and the quality is possibly reflected in the price.

Everything you would expect to find is as advertised although it is basic.

There was only one towel each and the cottage was difficult to keep warm

Owner's Response: Thank you for your feedback and I'm glad that you enjoyed your stay. We use an excellent cleaning company who take pride in their work and they also provide four towels in total. We can always offer more towels and bedding if requested. The kitchen is equipped for a holiday stay and I'm glad that you found that it does have everything needed for a few days stay. If the fire is used with logs and coal then it keeps the cottage extremely warm and there are also electric radiators in the rooms. When we stay we build the fire right up and keep it going so that sometimes it's so warm in there that we have to open the windows. It just depends on how each guest chooses to use it and we're always happy to give any advice on this to our guests.

A Perfect Retreat

  • 5 of 5

Situated just south of Cadair Idris and close to Snowdonia National Park Deer House is a perfect retreat for those wanting a break from the stresses of modern life. Clean and comfortable the cottage is perfect for couples, one bedroom, a lounge, bathroom and kitchen. the wood burner provided more than enough warmth during our stay and the basic kitchen facilities were more than adequate for cooking every night for 2 weeks. The small hamlet boasts a bunch of friendly neighbours and the proximity of Machynlleth allows for regular visits to replenish supplies. We loved our time in in Deer House and will be returning.
