Villa Alessandra is located in Tuscany between Lucca and Florence in the Montalbano Hills near the medieval village of Montecatini Alto. This large, historic villa has been beautifully restored and refurnished with up-to-the-minute conveniences and comforts, while carefully maintaining the rich character and history of this estate home.
The richly fertile and undulating Hills of Montalbano are famous for their food, olive oil, high quality Tuscan wines and a landscape filled with olive groves, vineyards and forests. There are many small medieval villages and hamlets worth visiting throughout the area; each with their own local dishes, breads, wines, cheeses and sausages. The Villa is close to many of the must-see destinations including Firenze, Pisa, Lucca, Forte dei Marmi and Vinci – birthplace of Leonardo da Vinci. The area is well known for its thermal resorts and spas, several tennis courts are close by and the closest golf club is only ten minutes from the villa. The Park of Pinocchio is twenty minutes away and a delight with its park-like gardens and all the characters from the well-known children’s story.
Mature trees of cypress, cedar, sycamore, oak and limes shelter the villa and its lawns. A large seventeen by nine meter pool constructed entirely of travertine marble is set in an expansive terrace with sunbeds and seating areas.
Two gazebos with couch and chairs lie at the far end of the pool and a roofed terrace with comfortable couches for lounging is found adjacent to one wing of the house. There is, as well, a small, separate chapel on the estate.
The villa itself retains the character of a fine old Tuscan estate home. Stone and white-washed plaster walls accented with brickwork and high ceilings add character and a deep sense of continuity with the past. Furnishings, carpets and accessories offer a pleasing contrast to the rustic interior of the main living rooms. There are several salon areas including a spacious, formal living room with several seating areas, a smaller salon with fireplace and a full bar area for larger groups or more informal entertaining.
There are many options for dining. A former wine cellar with vaulted entranceways and open beamed ceilings creates an intimate atmosphere for more formal dining. A smaller dining area with access to a sheltered veranda can be found on the main floor and a covered and tiled veranda offers shade, wide views of the countryside and seating for sixteen to twenty people. The villa also possesses a private wine cellar. The large and fully professional kitchen is for staff use only.
