“Merlenna was great. The house was as advertised, older, but clean, quiet and comfortable. ”
What Robert loved about your listing:
“Quiet street, close to Volcano National Park. ”
Driveway was muddy. Had to park parallel along the road with two drivers side tires out to get some traction. Climate is wet and cold at night ( mid 50 degrees ferenheit). Kitchen had poor quality cooking utensils, but you can get by with them. Shower curtain was held by pvc pipes. Tub did not drain well, so we would end up finishing shower in a 3 inch puddle. Queen mattress in front bedroom is worn and sunken in. Washer/dryer is rusty and old, but did the job. TV stations are very limited, most likely due to local programing. Location is perfect for taking in all the volcano and waterfall sites.
Quiet and cozy. We asked for heaters when we found the fireplace was inoperative. We needed heaters for every room. The bed in the large front room is sumptuous. The shampoo and soap holder in the shower should be replaced, there is nowhere to put a razor, washcloth, shave cream, or anything else except a shampoo and body wash, which were provided. Photos showed bottled water containers. On arrival, these were tucked away, and no water was provided. We had internet service, and peace and quiet. I would stay here again!
I wouldn't recommend this home. The beds were uncomfortable, the living room furniture threadbare, refrigerator covered in mold, and the whole house smelled like cat pee.
Very convenient for trips to the Volcano National Park. Easy check-in / out. The house was clean and amenities were as described. The place was very private and comfortable for our family of 5. Grocery shops and restaurants close by but not really within walking distance. We recommend the Thai restaurant. Would definitely stay at Hale Pikake again.
This small home is in a great location to easily get to the Volcano National Park. The neighborhood is quiet. The home is small but well-stocked. It served our needs well for a single night while visiting the eastern part of the island.
My husband and I recently spent 4 nights at Hale Pikake. We were very happy with the house; it was cozy, clean and comfortable. The kitchen met all of our needs. The beds were comfortable. Since it cooled down at night, we enjoyed the fireplace in the mornings. We had a rental car, so the location a few miles from Hawaii Volcano National Park worked well for us.
Our Volcano Village location puts you 40 minutes from Punalu’u Black Sand Beach, where you may see turtles nesting and swimming, one and a half hours from from the City of Refuge, and only 40 minutes from historic and beautiful downtown Hilo with restaurants, shops, museums and nearby snorkeling beaches.
Amenities in the village include several diverse restaurants, 2 grocery stores, 2 gas stations, launderette, gift shops, art galleries, post office, a nearby local winery, 18-hole golf course and 'da' best Sunday morning farmer's market.
