About the property

This unique property, nestled in the Dane Valley, is a 1750's stone cottage with breathtaking views over the river to the wooded escarpment beyond. To the back of the cottage and accessed via steps is a delightful south facing private garden which adjoins farmland, perfect for relaxing with a glass of wine or a pint of the fabulous Wincle beer.

Previously renovated by keen walkers for use as a weekend retreat, the accommodation is presented to a very high standard and extends over three floors. A charming Kitchen/Dining room with beamed ceiling, contemporary units and an oil fired Rayburn forms the ground floor. The first floor has a lovely Lounge with a cast iron log burner as its focal point and completing the layout is a pretty double Bedroom adjoined by a quirky en-suite bathroom. Every room enjoys a fabulous outlook over the valley.

The Ship Inn, moments away, is a truly excellent pub, extremely popular locally and a wonderful, comfortable, friendly place to while away an evening. There is a well established microbrewery and a fishery in the village which are both open to the public if you fancy having a pint and catching a trout for your dinner. As well as being a walkers paradise, this area has an abundance of National Trust properties to explore. For those who fancy a little bit of a pamper, the Mill Wheel Spa, just 8 miles away, provides a unique, relaxing experience which should not be missed. Despite the rural splendour, this part of the Peak District National Park is within comfortable driving distance of Leek and other centres such as Macclesfield ,Buxton and Congleton which offer a varied range of facilities and exploring opportunities. This is a truly beautiful place for individuals or couples. Come to walk, relax, unwind or use the cottage as a base to explore. This is a lovely romantic setting , fabulous for a birthday or an anniversary surprise for someone special. Please make sure you read the "other things to note section" before you book particularly if you have mobility problems.

Hope to see you soon. Hilary

Other things to note:

This is a small property, arranged over 3 floors with two internal steep flights of stairs (with restricted head height) accessed by steps with another steep flight leading to the garden. If you have mobility issues or are particularly tall this accommodation is probably not for you but, have a look at Dane Cottage Congleton, which is a beautiful, single storey property with vaulted ceilings set in stunning gardens overlooking its own fishing pool and only 20 minutes away.

Due to restricted space, the bath (with hand held mixer shower head) is accessed by climbing over the shortest end.

The Rayburn is turned off during the summer months, cooking during this period is by Microwave/oven/grill/steamer combi and induction hotplate and the water is heated with an immersion heater.

The nearest village shop is about 4 miles away and supermarket 6 miles so bring supplies with you.

Residents parking is available on the road.

About Hilary Jones

We have been letting out the annex to our own home since May 2014. It has been a fantastic experience and we have enjoyed hosting guests from all over the world. What started out as a bit of fun has now become a small business(Dane Cottage Holidays) and amazingly we were able to purchase our second property, Dane Cottage, Wincle in January 2016.

As hosts, we provide: good quality accommodation, great settings, reasonable prices and add a few extras to make you smile. We love what we do and above all we want you to have a good time when you stay with us.

A perfect stay and great location for visiting the Peaks and surrounding attractions. A really relaxing break away from it all but with a great pub just up the road! Thoroughly recommended! Just booked to go back 😊.

A lovely holiday home.

A well equipped cottage in a very peaceful location which gave us the perfect base whilst we explored the beauty of the area over a few days.

We were made to feel welcome with a message from the owner, flowers on the table and essential food items in the fridge and larder.

Everything was spotlessly clean.

The weather was hot outside but the cottage remained cool inside!

South of Scotland

A small cosy cottage imaginatively and beautifully designed in the most lovely part of the country.

  • 5 of 5

The cottage is one of a row of 5 ex. Mill workers' cottages close by the River Dane and a Fisheries with a very picturesque lake. It is easily accessible as residents' parking is provided on the road which runs alongside the back of the properties.

The kitchen is well equipped and the sitting-room upstairs looks out over the valley below. The bedroom has an en suite bathroom with wonderful large bath (piping hot water - ideal for tired walkers) and windows to the back and front.

We thoroughly enjoyed our stay, walking and exploring the surrounding area and coming back to relax and sit outside in the private area by the front door (or in the garden below). It was lovely meeting the neighbours next door and our host was most helpful. We were very grateful for a landline which is provided for incoming calls (as mobile reception is poor) which was reassuring as the family needed to contact us during our stay.

We loved every minute of our stay, it was brilliant. The location is absolutely beautiful - the surrounding areas are gorgeous and you can hear a stream and the lambs bleating from the cottage.

There is a lovely pub full of friendly locals that's within walking (or stumbling!) distance, where the food is lovely too, if not there's everything you could need to cook at the cottage. The owner really has thought of everything, even down to plastic containers if you want to take a picnic out with you.

The cottage is lovely and cosy, especially with the log burner going in the evenings. We'll definitely be coming back!
