Overview

About the property

FABULOUS BASE FROM WHICH TO EXPLORE, THE PEAKS, CHESHIRE, AND STAFFORDSHIRE

This unique property, nestled in the Dane Valley, is a 1750's stone cottage with breathtaking views over the river to the wooded escarpment beyond. To the back of the cottage and accessed via steps is a delightful south facing private garden which adjoins farmland, perfect for relaxing with a glass of wine or a pint of the fabulous Wincle beer.

Previously renovated by keen walkers for use as a weekend retreat, the accommodation is presented to a very high standard and extends over three floors. A charming Kitchen/Dining room with beamed ceiling, contemporary units and an oil fired Rayburn forms the ground floor. The first floor has a lovely Lounge with a cast iron log burner as its focal point and completing the layout is a pretty double Bedroom adjoined by a quirky en-suite bathroom. Every room enjoys a fabulous outlook over the valley.

The Ship Inn, moments away, is a truly excellent pub, extremely popular locally and a wonderful, comfortable, friendly place to while away an evening. There is a well established microbrewery and a fishery in the village which are both open to the public if you fancy having a pint and catching a trout for your dinner. As well as being a walkers paradise, this area has an abundance of National Trust properties to explore. For those who fancy a little bit of a pamper, the Mill Wheel Spa, just 8 miles away, provides a unique, relaxing experience which should not be missed. Despite the rural splendour, this part of the Peak District National Park is within comfortable driving distance of Leek and other centres such as Macclesfield ,Buxton and Congleton which offer a varied range of facilities and exploring opportunities. This is a truly beautiful place for individuals or couples. Come to walk, relax, unwind or use the cottage as a base to explore. This is a lovely romantic setting , fabulous for a birthday or an anniversary surprise for someone special. Please make sure you read the "other things to note section" before you book particularly if you have mobility problems.

Hope to see you soon. Hilary

Other things to note:

This is a small property, arranged over 3 floors with two internal steep flights of stairs (with restricted head height) accessed by steps with another steep flight leading to the garden. If you have mobility issues or are particularly tall this accommodation is probably not for you but, have a look at Dane Cottage Congleton, which is a beautiful, single storey property with vaulted ceilings set in stunning gardens overlooking its own fishing pool and only 20 minutes away.

Due to restricted space, the bath (with hand held mixer shower head) is accessed by climbing over the shortest end.

The Rayburn is turned off during the summer months, cooking during this period is by Microwave/oven/grill/steamer combi and induction hotplate and the water is heated with an immersion heater.

The nearest village shop is about 4 miles away and supermarket 6 miles so bring supplies with you.

Residents parking is available on the road.

About Hilary Jones

We have been letting out the annex to our own home since May 2014. It has been a fantastic experience and we have enjoyed hosting guests from all over the world. What started out as a bit of fun has now become a small business(Dane Cottage Holidays) and amazingly we were able to purchase our second property, Dane Cottage, Wincle in January 2016.

As hosts, we provide: good quality accommodation, great settings, reasonable prices and add a few extras to make you smile. We love what we do and above all we want you to have a good time when you stay with us.

Peace in a perfect little cottage

  • 5 of 5

Really enjoyed our stay in Dane Cottage in Wincle. The cottage is very well equipped and in very good condition. The accommodation is over 3 stories with quite steep steps both in the cottage and accessing the cottage so would not be suitable for anyone with mobility problems, but it was no problem for us. The area is very quiet, practically no road noise. The nearby Ship Inn was very good for food with excellent service. The decor in the cottage can not be faulted. Didn't have the aga on as it was probably not cold enough so we could not use that for cooking, but there was a very good combination microwave and oven and also excellent separate hob. Good wifi and free sat for TV, but no mobile phone signal. No shower just a bath and have to be careful how much hot water you use as tank is small , but again this was no problem. If you want to get away from it all and explore the Peak District this is the place for you to stay.

Single or double - perfect

  • 5 of 5

If you are a single or couple and like to walk eat and drink this place is about as good as it gets. The house has loads of character and it does not take long to see that someone has put a lot of thought into creating the perfect getaway. Cook your breakfast and eat it in the sunshine outside, go for a good long walk- up stream in the Dane Valley I found best, stop at the Wincle Beer Company for a pint (or three), have a nap then go to The Ship (100yrds) for your evening meal. I want to go back in the winter, stock up, get snowed in and forget the rat race !

Anyone complaining about this place ought to seek professional psychiatric help

  • 5 of 5

A very very welcoming wee cottage on three levels.

Absolutely, tailor-made for two. Not too small, not too big, just right. Did Goldilocks visit at some time ?

The interior-furnishings have been assembled with love and attention.

We were greeted with a personal hand-written note on a small blackboard from Hilary, our host. And a vase of freshly-picked country-style flowers. All sorts of little touches to make us feel at home . Simply delightful, no exaggeration.

Not a place for those looking for city- lights. Tis very much a country cottage from where to explore The Peak District.

Perfect 2-person holiday cottage, great location

  • 5 of 5

What an amazing stay we had at Dane Cottage! The house is beautifully furnished and everything was perfectly thought through to ensure we had the most comfortable and enjoyable stay - from the pint of milk in the fridge to the summer duvet specially put out for us due to the warmer weather. The cottage is in a beautiful location with lovely views across the valley and just 50 metres from the buzzing local pub where we had a delicious supper. The walks in the area are fantastic and Hilary had ensured an excellent supply of walking guides and maps which were invaluable. We could not recommend Dane Cottage highly enough!

A wonderful cosy cottage in a beautiful location. We had a wonderful stay and after a lovely walk in the valley it was brilliant to be able to sit in front of the log fire and relax. Only downside....we had to leave!
