This unique property, nestled in the Dane Valley, is a 1750's stone cottage with breathtaking views over the river to the wooded escarpment beyond. To the back of the cottage and accessed via steps is a delightful south facing private garden which adjoins farmland, perfect for relaxing with a glass of wine or a pint of the fabulous Wincle beer.
Previously renovated by keen walkers for use as a weekend retreat, the accommodation is presented to a very high standard and extends over three floors. A charming Kitchen/Dining room with beamed ceiling, contemporary units and an oil fired Rayburn forms the ground floor. The first floor has a lovely Lounge with a cast iron log burner as its focal point and completing the layout is a pretty double Bedroom adjoined by a quirky en-suite bathroom. Every room enjoys a fabulous outlook over the valley.
The Ship Inn, moments away, is a truly excellent pub, extremely popular locally and a wonderful, comfortable, friendly place to while away an evening. There is a well established microbrewery and a fishery in the village which are both open to the public if you fancy having a pint and catching a trout for your dinner. As well as being a walkers paradise, this area has an abundance of National Trust properties to explore. For those who fancy a little bit of a pamper, the Mill Wheel Spa, just 8 miles away, provides a unique, relaxing experience which should not be missed. Despite the rural splendour, this part of the Peak District National Park is within comfortable driving distance of Leek and other centres such as Macclesfield ,Buxton and Congleton which offer a varied range of facilities and exploring opportunities. This is a truly beautiful place for individuals or couples. Come to walk, relax, unwind or use the cottage as a base to explore. This is a lovely romantic setting , fabulous for a birthday or an anniversary surprise for someone special. Please make sure you read the "other things to note section" before you book particularly if you have mobility problems.
Hope to see you soon. Hilary
Other things to note:
This is a small property, arranged over 3 floors with two internal steep flights of stairs (with restricted head height) accessed by steps with another steep flight leading to the garden. If you have mobility issues or are particularly tall this accommodation is probably not for you but, have a look at Dane Cottage Congleton, which is a beautiful, single storey property with vaulted ceilings set in stunning gardens overlooking its own fishing pool and only 20 minutes away.
Due to restricted space, the bath (with hand held mixer shower head) is accessed by climbing over the shortest end.
The Rayburn is turned off during the summer months, cooking during this period is by Microwave/oven/grill/steamer combi and induction hotplate and the water is heated with an immersion heater.
The nearest village shop is about 4 miles away and supermarket 6 miles so bring supplies with you.
Residents parking is available on the road.
