Photos and Description of this 3 bedroom holiday home in Beacon - The Mountain House

3 Bedrooms, 1.5 Bathroom, Sleeps 3-5 With Mountain Views

Beacon is reminiscent of towns you see in movies. A small, bustling main street lined with galleries, restaurants and shops. Unfortunately it's no longer a secret as it has been featured in several publications like the New York Time's, 'Great Places to Visit.'

Explore the Hudson Valley, or take the train to Manhattan to spend the day shopping, sight-seeing or enjoying a Broadway show. If you've come here to escape, there are numerous outdoor activities that highlight picturesque views and the sought after quiet many people desire. Beacon has also become a cultural center in the art world; attractions include DIA Foundation museum, Art and Antique Galleries, open artist's studios and even a glass blowing shop.

In Beacon during the spring, fall and summer months there are various outdoor festivals, as well as a farmers market on the waterfront every Sunday. In the winter months the area is recognized for it's many cross country skiing trails. Year round, on the second Saturday of every month the galleries in Beacon stay open until 9 PM serving wine and snacks. Join the crowds exploring Main Street.

A true description of Beacon would be far too long for an easy read. We've lived here our whole lives and discover something new every weekend. Whether it be a new distillery, shop or festival. Living here for nearly 30 years, we continue to be amazed, enthusiastic and eager to share Beacon with you. We won't spoil all the surprises; come explore and fall in love.

Lovely experience at the Beacon Mountain House

  • 5 of 5

We had a great stay at this immaculate property. The kitchen is well appointed for all of your needs and the gracious hosts even left us a gift basket of Beacon goodies. The house is centrally located to everything in Beacon and Cold Spring. We enjoyed a relaxing time here and highly recommend this place. One thing to note is that while the property is near Mt. Beacon, it is right on the main road in the town. So, you will hear road noise at night, etc...

Great, Cozy Hudson Valley Retreat

  • 5 of 5

The home was cozy, peaceful, and well-appointed. Ron and Lisa were fantastic with communication and information ... the entire process was a breeze. We stayed in the house for a weekend wedding, and it was a perfect place to prepare and rest our heads. Highly recommended! Convenient to transit and all that Beacon and Cold Spring have to offer.

Another Comfortable Stay

  • 5 of 5

This was the 3rd time I have rented the Mountain House - and, as usual, had a great stay. This is such a great little house - plenty of space, fully equipped kitchen with laundry, good television service and a nice little porch to enjoy the evenings. It is just a few minutes drive from Beacon - so restaurants and shopping are really close. Also close to Cold Spring and lots of trailheads for great hikes. The owners, Ron and Lisa, are wonderful - always right there if you need anything. Free Wifi too. I have stayed there alone and with my husband, and felt entirely safe and comfortable every time. I highly recommend this as a little home away from home - whether you are local or from across the country.

Clean, convenient and lovely touch

  • 5 of 5

We are a couple with two children 18-months and 3.5 years. We went to Hudson Valley for a couple of days of R&R and wanted to visit both Cold Spring and Beacon. This spot is located perfectly between the two with easy access to other picturesque towns, beaches, hikes, parks and more. The home is just as described - clean, spacious, comfortable with everything needed to enjoy your stay. We are happy to recommend this home.

Exactly as pictured, comfortably furnished

  • 4 of 5

We spent Aug 27-Sept 1 at this property visiting friends and family who live in the area. The house is exactly as pictured and - what you cannot see- also immaculately clean. The kitchen is well stocked with all you need to prepare a meal. Ron and Lisa were great hosts, easy to contact and able to assist us with all our questions. There were plenty of towels and paper goods, along with cable tv, books and games. There were nightstands and bedside lamps, which I appreciate as a glasses-wearing book lover.

The house does have a couple of quirks. The bedrooms are upstairs with a half bath, but the full bath with a tub/shower combination is downstairs. There is no dining table, but there is a card table and extra chairs. We had a max of three adults, so this worked for us. There are also tv tray tables which can be used. Our GPS device had us turn on Lapis Lane, but the driveway for this house was the next one, recognizable by the wood fence and a round mirror opposite the gravel drive. The house is also very close to the road.

We dined at Brothers Trattoria in Beacon, the River Grill and Billy Joe's Ribworks in Newburgh, Tattoria Locanda in Fishkill, Brasserie Le Bouchon in Cold Spring and the Thayer Hotel at West Point. Food at the first five was great. The foie gras at Le Bouchon was the best I have had anywhere. While the Thayer Hotel has a wonderful view and great history, the food is not a reason to dine there. We also enjoyed fresh baked bread and goodies at two bakeries on Main St in Beacon as well as frozen treats at Beacon Creamery. We visited Sprout Creek Farms in Poughkeepsie. Their cheeses and charcuterie made a great lunch shared with friends.

We would certainly recommend a stay here.

Clean, quiet, comfortable

  • 5 of 5

Ron and Lisa were very nice hosts who made us feel welcome and were happy to answer any questions. We arrived in town before 4pm and they were kind enough to let us check in early. The house was clean and well-stocked with linens, paper towels, toilet paper, and anything else we needed. We didn't cook much here, but the kitchen seemed to have all the pots, knives, and other tools one would need.

Overall everyone in my group was very happy with the accommodations, and the 5 of us did not feel crowed in the space. We would happily stay here again on a future visit to Beacon!

My only complaint would be that it wasn't clear on the listing that the 3rd bedroom with a single bed was actually a couch with a pull out bed. Thankfully there was a mattress pad to put on top of it. The bed would probably be fine for a child, but the adult who ended up sleeping on that bed (5'5") didn't quite fit lengthwise.
