Relaxing base for sightseeing or simply unwinding by the pool

When designing this holiday accommodation we tried to consider all of the issues that we had encountered and how we would have like to have been treated. So, with that in mind we have incorporated many small ideas that help to make your holiday enjoyable.

We also offer free WIFI.

La Metairie Gite makes an excellent base for one or two couples however the layout is unsuitable for children.

Relaxing Inside

Spacious Ensuite Bedrooms

La Metairie Gite is a two generous sized bedroomed gite sleeping a maximum of four people.  Stretch out on the foam topped bed or on a Tempur mattress!

Both bedrooms have their own ensuite shower rooms. There you will find a choice of shower gels, hair shampoos and conditioners. Hand wash, body lotion and makeup remover are also to found. Hairdryers are placed in each of the bedrooms.

Open Plan Kitchen and Lounge

Downstairs there is an airy kitchen diner equipped with dishwasher, extra large cooker range, microwave, full-size fridge-freezer, filter coffee maker, toaster and pressure cooker. The kitchen cupboards are well equipped with plenty of crockery, glasses and utensils that make it a home from home. It comes complete with teapot and a stove top expresso maker.

A comfortable lounge, which includes a 3 seater sofa, 2 reclining armchairs, WIFI and satellite TV, helps you to switch off and unwind.

There is also a separate utility room with a washing machine, iron and ironing board plus a further sink unit.

Upstairs the mezzanine floor area provides that extra special space to relax in with 2 day beds, side tables and soft lighting. Wi Fi is available for catching up on emails but its also the perfect space to catch up that book you always promised yourself time to read.

Relaxing Outside

Swimming Pool

Cool off and relax in the 10 x 5 metre heated swimming pool, shared with the owners.  Unwind on the Bridgman rattan sun loungers, don't worry about packing pool towels - they are provided.

At the touch of a switch the electric pool cover opens and the pool awaits. The pool is heated, in line with weather conditions, because who wants to brave a cold pool.

Along with the sun lounger cushions and lounger towels, a selection of sun creams for both the face and body are provided (as is aftersun cream). A solar shower is next to the pool; one of its advantages is it helps to minimise pool chemicals.

Private Terrace

At the rear of the gite, through the french doors, there is a private sun terrace with more Bridgman rattan furniture and a handy pergola to provide that all important shade. Sit and unwind with views across the fields to the village of Alan and its palace.

And for that perfect lunch on a sunny day, grill your meals on your gas plancha.

About Lynn Dimmock

I'm Lynn and I live here at La Metairie with husband Steven and Lexie, a very spoilt cat!

We always looked forward to our holidays as they were our escape from a rushed lifestyle - time to switch off and unwind. I was always searching for that special place where the alarm clock didn't exist and I could relax, slip into a pool and catch up on unread books.

Lynn Dimmock purchased this house in 2012

Why Lynn Dimmock chose Alan

We always dreamed of our french home, especially after each holiday or the odd day trip in France. But one thing or another always halted our plans. Eventuality we decided it was now or never and took the plunge and we have never looked back.

For the first couple of years La Metairie was our holiday home, our space of peace and calm during our hectic working life.

It didn't take long for La Metairie and it’s surrounding area to work its magic. Soon, each return back to our working life became harder and harder.

Finally, we succumbed and moved to start our new life at La Metairie. So here we are and the rest is history!

La Metairie is one property - a house and two barns. We live in the original house and our guests live in the fully converted barn. To ensure privacy for our guests we have built a private shaded terrace.

By chance, we discovered that our local commune (Alan) was planing to use La Metairie as the area’s museum so we were lucky to find it. We even found the plans that the commune had drawn up and the pictures of the renovation from an original dairy farm.

What makes this house unique

When we first set our eyes on La Metairie the first thing we noticed was the amazing stone wall that surrounds much of the front garden. Its many colours shimmied in the sun - it turned out to be the perfect sun trap so guess where we installed the pool!

Excellent. We thought this was the best gite we have stayed in in several years. home from home

  • 5 of 5

As soon as you drive through the gates you get the wow factor. The website photos do not do the property justice. There's so much room and everythings furnished/completed to a very high standard. The welcome pack is outstanding, Lynn and Steve are the perfect hosts. Lots to see in the area, lots of morning markets. We had a lovel meal in the Auberge in Alan just two minutes away by car. Spain is just over an hours drive through the Pyrenee's, we visited a town called Viehla, gin is really cheap there! We've had a fantastic two week stay and returned home thoroughly refreshed. Thanks again Lynn and Steve.

Bright, airy, highly equipped and spotless.

  • 5 of 5

This is the most highly equipped gite we have visited, absolutely everything is provided. There is a proper range cooker in the kitchen, the knives are sharp and there is every utensil you could possibly need. And we could easily have cooked a hearty meal from what Lynn called 'just some basic provisions' upon our arrival. The theme continues in the en-suite shower rooms where the selection of toiletries leaves nothing to be desired. There are quality furnishings throughout the very spacious accommodation, and the whole place is spotlessly clean.

The gite sits quietly (apart from the odd cow bell) in its rural setting, but Alan village is just a pleasant walk away, where the auberge is surprisingly good and extremely welcoming. Spain is within easy striking distance for lunch or evening tapas, while the many cols provide a driver's dream. Hilltop medieval villages abound. Or you could just chill out at the gite. The pool is warm and clean, with areas to sit in or out of the sun, and the kitchen doors open towards the shaded terrace with rural views to Alan village across the valley.

Finally, and most importantly, hosts Lynn and Steve are a humorous, welcoming and very sociable couple for whom nothing is too much trouble to improve your stay. At 'La Metairie' Lynn and Steve have found their own Utopia, and it shows.

Stunning location, wonderful accommodation and everything we needed!

  • 5 of 5

Our week at La Métairie was fantastic. The gite is the best self catering accommodation we have ever stayed in. Lynn and Steve have thought of everything and it is those little touches that make it feel like home rather than holiday accommodation! The kitchen was fantastic with all utensils and pans we could ever need. The pool is truly stunning and the outdoor eating space is really lovely. We loved the day bed areas as they were perfect for reading during the hottest part of the day. The inside of the gite is lovely and cool and a welcome respite from the outside heat on some days! We can't wait to return. Thank you so much Lynn and Steve!
