Le Citronnier: Near Uzes, countryside views, heated pool, sleeps 8.

Bedrooms 4
Space 1,722 sq. ft.
Property type villa
Minimum Stay 7 nights

About the property

4 bed, 3 bath, 2 separate toilets. Sleeps 8. Pool, Ping-Pong, Bikes, Boules

A short drive from the exquisite, historic town of Uzès, past apricot orchards and a Natura 2000 protected lake brings you to the ancient village of La Capelle-et-Masmolène with its 12th century chateau. Our house-Le Citronnier-has 4 double bedrooms, 1 with en-suite shower and 2 full bathrooms. There are two separate toilets.

2 of the bedrooms open directly on to the heated salt-water pool and a third bedroom has its own private terrace and fountain. Facing due south, the house has uninterrupted views past the pool and over the fields and hills from the large, high-ceiling living area. The bedrooms are split between two separate wings of the house so there is plenty of privacy. The house is on one level so good for the less mobile. We have reliable hi-speed internet and TV. There is a full-size ping-pong table, two bikes (with helmets) and boules available. Towels and sheets are high quality and the kitchen is equipped for the best of cooks.

The house is well insulated - therefore cool in summer and warm in winter. Each room is equipped with a fan (and a radiator plus wood burning stove in living room for winter)

Tired of lazing in the sun, there are many well-signposted walks from the village as well as fishing and bird watching in the nearby lake. Horse-riding is also popular and you can go kayaking on the River Gardon, under the breathtaking Roman aqueduct the Pont du Gard.

Uzès itself has wonderful medieval streets and a great Saturday market. Avignon- with its world famous July theatre festival- is reached in 40 minutes as are Nimes, Arles and Orange with their spectacular Roman amphitheatres. The nearby village of St Quentin La Poterie has dozens of art and ceramics galleries. For the beach, the Camargue is just over an hour away by car.

About Cathy and Richard Wells

Richard is a voice-over artist, Cathy a former BBC TV and radio journalist. We are English, live in Brussels and fell in love with Uzes- the prettiest town in France- and the surrounding area many years ago.

Last year we finally found our perfect house within striking distance of the town in a quiet village with a magnificent 11th century Chateau.

Cathy and Richard Wells purchased this villa in 2015

Why Cathy and Richard Wells chose La Capelle-et-Masmolène

Uninterrupted countryside views from our shady terrace make for idyllic, lazy sunny summer afternoons by the pool in Provence. Peace, quiet and instant relaxation, just minutes away from the medieval market town of Uzes ( the Saturday morning market is fantastic and there are lots of great restaurants)

What makes this villa unique

The house faces due south for maximum sunshine. Two of the bedrooms have double doors opening directly onto the pool. Another bedroom has its own private walled patio- a perfect place for quiet reading or early morning yoga. The open-plan, loft style living area with its high ceiling stays cool while the large pool terrace provides plenty of space for soaking up the sun.

Amazing family holiday!

  • 5 of 5

We spent a week at this beautiful villa in July 2017. We were a group of six – my husband and myself, our children age 11 & 12, and their grandparents. Everyone thought this villa was ideal. The rooms were so nicely decorated and extremely comfortable, the kitchen was well stocked, and the view of the fields was spectacular. After a busy day biking, kayaking or touring the local villages, we spent the afternoons playing in the pool or having a ping pong tournament.

Not only is the area around Uzes a beautiful part of France, but the people are also very friendly. Our daughter, who is in French immersion in Canada, had a wonderful time conversing with many of the locals; especially Fanny who lives next door.

We highly recommend Le Citronnier and will one day return.

Owner's Response: So pleased you liked the house so much. I think I told you that Fanny was most complimentary about your daughter's French! Come back any time! Cathy

Sheer bliss

  • 5 of 5

My second visit to this delightful region of France and the joy that is Le Citronnier. The house is even lovelier than before with the addition of the pool. No effort has been spared to make life comfortable for visitors. Highly recommended.

repos et jolis paysages

  • 4 of 5

The best place we've stayed in near Uzes....

  • 5 of 5

The house is uniquely positioned for visiting the wonderful locations of Uzes, Avignon and the Pont du Gard. The countryside is picture book perfect and the house set in a charming village. We had a great time sat around the table in the wonderful open space of the living room with the wood burner roaring away. The house was spotlessly clean and very well equipped. I had the impression that this would be a good all year round holiday villa and we've booked again to enjoy the recently installed swimming pool this summer! Thanks to the owners for getting it so right. Fiona & Nick, Barnes, London.

Comfortable and relaxig. Well designed

  • 5 of 5

Our first time in this beautiful part of France. And our first time in this lovely Villa at La Capelle. Travelling by Eurostar direct to Avignon was easy. 35 minutes to the Villa.

Our 7 day stay was most relaxing sitting on the terrace with it's full country views over a sparkling pool. Sipping the local Rose.

My partner and I found the Villa most comfortable with everything you need for the perfect stay. Very comfy beds and luxurious bathrooms. We had all the right ingredients for a most relaxing time.So peaceful after the pressures of business. We will be back.
