About Nels and Shelly Davis

I grew up in Arkansas and visited my Grandpa and Grandma Brown in the Ozark mountains when I was a little girl. I've always felt more at home in the country near farms and dirt roads. My husband and I fell in love with the Givhans Ferry area right outside of Summerville, South Carolina. We've made this area our home and we love sharing the natural setting and laid back country life with our guests! We hope you will come and stay in the little "Brown" cottage and enjoy your time in the country right outside historic Charleston, SC!

Nels and Shelly Davis purchased this cottage in 2014

You will want to choose this property if you love trees, nature and country living. If you are looking for all the modern amenities with a "camping" like feel. This cottage is non-smoking, with a queen-size memory foam mattress in the master bedroom and a full-size memory foam mattress in the loft bedroom, filtered mini split air conditioning and heating units with individual remote controls, as well as, new appliances. It's not camping, it's GLAMPING!

What makes this cottage unique

The cottage is located on a 3/4 acre lot with beautiful pine, birch, elm, crepe myrtle and oak trees. There is a good size lawn for pitching tents, picnicking, and playing outdoor games. This property is located 1/2 mile from the Edisto River, the longest black river in North America. There are 3 public boat landings near by and a state park that has a great swimming hole for kids!

You'll want to stay here!

  • 5 of 5

Perfect place to get away from all the traffic and still enjoy Charleston. We absolutely enjoyed staying here! Clean, furnished with daily necessities and cozy cottage. I definitely recommend staying here.. I promise you won't regret it. This is the first place we plan on checking for availability when planning our next trip to Charleston! Thank you for allowing us to stay in your cottage!

Just perfect!

  • 5 of 5

The cottage was beautifully designed with lots of light. It's nicely furnished, super clean and comfortable with all the amenities we needed. The floor plan is perfect with two comfy bedrooms, each with their own bathroom, tv and hvac control.

We found it easily using google maps to navigate.

Some bottles of water were provided. For which we were grateful, since the tap water smells of sulfur. If you're planning to spend a lot of time there, you'll want to pick up drinking water.

Note that this is not a riverfront cottage, but the nearby state park has access to the river.

We would definitely stay here again and recommend it to family and friends!

Owner's Response: Thank you for your wonderful review. We are so happy you enjoyed the cottage and the proximity to the river and one of our state parks. We are, also, located close to several public boat landings that access the river for fishing, kayaking and tubing and we are less than 15 miles from horseback riding, Middleton Plantation and Gardens, Legend Oaks Public Golf Course, the Francis Beidler Forest and Audubon Center, and dowtown Historic Summerville! We hope you come back to visit us, again, soon!

Unique house and location

  • 5 of 5

My family and I enjoyed our 2 night stay. We grilled out one night (could have used a few steak knives), ate at Duke's BBQ and make the back road trip into Charleston! It was a beautiful drive much better than interstate with traffic. Home was perfectly clean and fully equipped! Loved the unique and personal touches. Our daughter is at CSU so we are down quite often. Would definitely stay again. Thanks Nels and Shelly

HOME AWAY FROM HOME

  • 5 of 5

Shelly and Nels have provided an EXCELLENT home away from home. Located in a very quiet and peaceful neighborhood, it truly is a wonderful place to stay. When my Aunt and I walked through the door, it was like coming home. This tastefully decorated home has a fully stocked kitchen, claw-foot tub, large walk-in shower, comfortable beds, covered front porch, air-conditioner, washer & dryer, outside grill, and television. It is centrally located between Savannah, Ga and Charleston, SC and Givhans Ferry State Park is located right across the street. I enjoyed sitting on the front porch, reading a book. My Aunt LOVED, LOVED the claw-foot tub in the upstairs bathroom! Shelly came over one night to introduce herself and ask if we needed anything. It was awesome to meet her and know that if we needed anything we only had to call her. We visited Middleton Estates, Charleston Tea Plantation, Port Royal, Beaufort, Charleston, and Savannah, GA. We even explored the antique shops in Summerville and Walterboro, and went sailing in Charleston. The best part of the trip was coming back to the house and being able to kick back and relax. It was an awesome place to stay! Hopefully we will be able to come back and stay.
