A charming cottage in a beautiful setting
Had a totally relaxing stay in this lovely cottage with stunning views in every direction. The property was well-maintained, well-equipped and was very clean and comfortable. We visited the nearest town, Comares which is very pretty with several restaurants and a supermarket.
This lovely accommodation ticked all the boxes for us . It is unique and quaint in style with all amenities as described. As we stayed in January we did make use of the wood burner on chilly nights and enjoyed the cosy comfort it provided . We enjoyed excellent communication with owners and with Carl who manages the property for them . The location is perfect for enjoying long walks and the scenery is stunning. Am already planning to return and cannot recommend highly enough .
The cottage is popular for Winter breaks & perfect for country walks which start at the front door. Although equipped with 3 electric heaters most visitors like to use the wood burner and a few logs & kindling are provided free of charge on arrival. Extra logs can be delivered ( a bag/s or a truck full) by local Jose at cost & he speaks English. Thanks Lorraine & hope you will stay again. Carl
We decided on a chilled out getaway holiday this year and Casa Wendy did not disappoint. The drive, arriving late at night, was a bit nerve wracking but we loved the secluded location and the views of the mountains in the morning were breath-taking. Comares village is only a 10 minute drive and has lovely restaurants and bars. We had the best of both worlds the use of the large balcony by day and cosying up with the wood burner at night. Christmas was idyllic and we had a lovely post-Xmas dinner walk. The accommodation had everything you would need and we felt well looked after by Carl, who welcomed us, and the owners who provided us with a welcome note and our first Christmas gift! Casa Wendy was clean and well maintained and we enjoyed living in the middle of an olive grove if occasionally requiring a quick sweep up! We enjoyed several lovely walks and left relaxed, chilled and planning our return next year. A good tip is to do a big shop on arrival and many shops (food) are closed on Sundays..
So pleased you enjoyed your Christmas break at Casa Wendy. Thanks for your comments and yes its a good tip to shop en route from the airport if time permits. The Comares village store is small but stocks most essentials though including fresh bread, meat, fruit & veg and beer, spirits & vino! Open Monday to Saturday 9am to 8pm ( with a siesta from 2pm to 5pm!). Jim
Just as you described it
This delightful cottage has everything you need for a holiday home. As we were arriving after dark it was great to have the outside lights on! The cottage on our arrival was spotless and is well maintained. A few minutes in the car takes you into the beautiful village of Comares and the nearest supermarket and restaurant.
We try to be flexible with arrival/departure times and when guests plan to arrive after dark the exterior lights are left on as the cottage is tucked away in a quiet olive grove. A welcome pack of drinks & breakfast basics is also provided. Thanks Daphne & hope you will visit again. Carl
Small, rustic but quite tired Wendy house with overground plunge pool
I was looking forward to staying 2 weeks at the Wendy house from other reviews of the property however it turned out to be a very negative experience for me ( I suppose the last review I had read did hint at the lack of cleanliness but more of that later...). On arrival at the property I was surprised to see that it was a semi detached cottage - what appeared to be an annexe to a much larger house and there was also another property immediately next door to the pool area and other properties close by slightly down the hill - hence it was not as isolated or private as it appeared from the photos or in the description and this was very disappointing - the pool area was partially overlooked by the other semi detached property. The front door was quite difficult to open as it jams due to it not having sufficient floor clearance. The whole cottage was in darkness upon arrival with all shutters closed & therefore it wasn't very welcoming ( that said it is pretty dark inside even when they are open as there's not much natural light due to north facing rooms and small low windows so it can feel a bit claustraphobic). No views from inside apart from one room (the second bedroom). It was also extremely cold inside and yet only a handful of logs had been provided for the wood burner. The only other heating that was available for the cottage was a panel heater in the sitting room which is only meant for background heat as they are not powerful enough to heat a home and it didnt. The cottage was only surface clean / badly in need of a deep clean. The toaster was disgustingly filthy so couldn't use, the kettle full of limescale, some pans had seen better days, there was cobweb in the hallway, the rug in bedroom was dirty and the daybeds on the terrace looked to be wrapped up for the Winter (the owner said that they were rain / dust covers however the beds underneath were marked anyway and the terrace certainly didnt look like the photos advertised with everything covered in plastic sheets and a daybed from the pool area also jammed next to them alongside a huge satellite dish - there was hardly room to move! )The pool deck was covered in olives and leaves as was the pool...The tv soundbar also didnt work.. etc Informed the owner that I wouldnt be staying, he took 2 days to respond, refuted everything, said everybody loved the cottage and that i should read the reviews!! His attitude was appalling and has refused any refund, for the unused days!! Be warned!
We welcome constructive criticism but this rant goes far beyond that. The comments made are either unfair, exaggerated or simply untrue.
Yes, the cottage is semi detached as advertised, photographed & priced.
It is private but not isolated. The pool is not overlooked by any other property. No equipment is more than 2 years old, when we started letting our holiday home new equipment & furniture was purchased. A mature Olive tree provides natural shade to the decking surrounding the pool.
So yes, sometimes before harvest olives fall from the tree! The cottage is professionally cleaned between lets. The electric heater provides adequate heat to the lounge & is less than a year old.
Communication is fast & the local manager is contactable 24/7.
Honestly, it would be pointless to address every gripe that this most unreasonable guest has written. Please if you are considering renting this rural cottage which is well photographed, described & priced, and would like a balanced opinion of what Casa Wendy is really like, read all the other guest reviews before making your decision. Thank you. Wendy.
Tranquil location perfect for a peaceful holiday
Casa Wendy offers an authentic & cosy traditional house in the hillsides of the Andalusian countryside. It is accessed via a single track winding road so good brakes are needed on your car! The final part is a dirt track leading up to the house which in summer is fine but not when it rains. Inside has everything you need provided other than an oven but who wants to bake or roast when on holiday?! The property is surface clean but could do with a "spring clean" & some of the kitchen ware needs replacing due to wear & tear. The exterior holds stunning views over the countryside & you can enjoy breakfast sitting at the table outside just taking in the vista. There is a small pool which is just right for dipping when too hot however, if you have a mobility issue it may not be for you as there are no steps into the pool so you need to crouch down to sit, hop in & then pull yourself out, its around waist deep. The property comes complete with wifi & has some English TV channels, good service given the area. It is a peaceful location aside from the random dog chorus each evening & the obligatory cockerel that is generally found around these areas, nothing to upset the calm you sense when here. Comares is only 3 km away, its around a 40 minute drive to Velez Malaga & a couple of hours to Granada which is a worthwhile trip for the Alhambra. We enjoyed our stay here & Carl & Maria the Property Managers are a call away if you have any problems and respond quickly. We could of stayed longer....
