Downtown Minneapolis: Thriving Performing-Arts Scene near Idyllic Lakes
Downtown Minneapolis is more than just the geographic epicenter of the city—it’s the cultural heart too. Sports venues home to the Timberwolves, Vikings, and Twins neighbor the lively nightclubs of the Warehouse District and the neon-lit marquees of the Hennepin Theater District. In recent years, the city’s arts scene has gotten a lot of attention, and for good reason: Minneapolis has more live theater shows per capita than any other US city except New York. Additionally, dozens of eclectic galleries complement the wide-ranging exhibits at the Minneapolis Institute of Arts, which showcases everything from Japanese woodcut prints to turn-of-the-century European advertisements.
To navigate downtown with ease, step into the Skyway, the city’s ingenious solution to harsh Minnesota winters. The Skyway is a network of indoor, aboveground tunnels connecting a slew of buildings downtown. A popular stop along the way is Nicollet Mall, a shopping thoroughfare where cars are not allowed. This is where you’ll find the iconic statue of Mary Tyler Moore tossing her 10-gallon Stetson into the air.
Nicknamed “The City of Lakes,” Minneapolis has 22 natural bodies of water within the city limits. A 10-minute drive from downtown brings you to the picturesque Chain of Lakes, which are surrounded by 12 miles of walking and biking paths. In the summer, the Lake Harriet band shell hosts summer concerts, which frequently include the renowned Minnesota Orchestra.
Cozy. Comfortable. Charming. Convenient location. Accommodating owner. I was really glad we stayed here. The owner responded quickly to my emails and wanted to ensure that our needs were met and that our stay was pleasant!
Location great, house perfect, and owner is wonderful. There is even the most complete kitchen is have ever rented and I rent a lot!
My family and I looked at heading to Minneapolis for a NFL game. I was taken away by how expensive hotels were going to be, only because of the football game. So I looked down a different avenue, and that was vacation home rentals. Having never done this before, I cannot express how accommodating Lance was and made sure we had everything we could possibly think of. Upon arrival, we found the location to be ideal. There were several restaurants and shops within a block. It wasn't so close to downtown that you had to worry about all the hustle and bustle. Yet it was only a 5 minute drive away. We were still close to all the downtown activities. Now lets talk about the house itself. It was the most charming house, I fell in love with the historic character and original wood work. It was very spacious for the 4 of us. Plus it had a sunroom on the front that was used every morning! Lance had it fully furnished, making it ideal for any situation and group. It was incredibly clean and ready to go. Thank you Lance for allowing us the opportunity to stay in your rental home, I can't wait to come back to the Cities just to stay there again! I would highly recommend this property to anyone visiting the Minneapolis area.
A really fantastic place. Clean, charming, well appointed and equipped. Perfect location. Lance's tips on where to eat and what to do --very helpful and hospitable. Definitely would come back.
Lance's place is very cozy with a lovely sunroom that's fun to have tea or coffee and read. The kitchen was well stocked, although we didn't cook. The beds were very comfortable. This is located very near some good breakfast eateries and several good evening restaurants. We also rented bikes from Lance, which was really fun to ride around the lakes. Lance was excellent to work with, helping to adjust dates when our travel plans changed and allowing a late checkout so we could shower after biking. He also was very supportive of any potential issues-which we had none. We enjoyed the complimentary wine left for us also. We plan to return since we will visit MN at least once a year.
Good location....several good eateries nearby and downtown is a short drive. Lance was very helpful and his "local guide" book he personally assembled is very useful. We would stay here again.
I always love coming to Minneapolis. We spent a lovely week and a half in Uptown Minneapolis in this extremely comfortable and inviting house. We were greeted with a bottle of wine and gorgeous weather. The beds are great, the kitchen very well equipped (made a huge pot of soup for my lunches), we walked all over to really good restaurants and coffee shops. We were so pleased that the house had an enclosed back yard for our dog and was within walking distance to two dog parks, perfect way for both of us to get our exercise. My favorite room was the glassed in front room. Thoroughly enjoyed having the sun coming in, a cup of coffee and my book. It was a perfect house for us. We look forward to returning soon! Lance, thank you for being such a gracious host.
